  • Coleman CT200 EX minibike / Mikuni carburetor/governor removal.
    Installed a VM22 MIkuni carburetor on the Coleman CT200U-EX minibike.
    Did a top-speed run to see how much difference the governor removal and carburetor swap would make in Performance?

    For those who are like me that’s not trying to spend money all you have to do is zip tie the spring that’s on the governor under the gas tank and that will stop it from engaging. Zip tie it tight and I promise u will see a big difference mines go 41 mph and all it cost me was 3 dollars for the pack of 100 zip ties lol

      @@Black66 just got it today. I’m still nervous about totally removing the governor, but I’m pretty sure I found a way to bypass it with a zip tie. Do you know of the method I’m talking about?

    • @Black66
      @Black66  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ontheflipsideedc Congratulations! Yes, the zip tie basically turns the spring into a straight rod so the governor mechanism cant pull back the throttle.

    • @ontheflipsideedc
      @ontheflipsideedc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Black66 I’ve heard a few people say that doing that mod can potentially cause valve float and I’m not trying to get that deep into the bike, but I did do a couple other little mods, I cut the throttle stop screw off and shortened the spring on the throttle cable stop thing, and I moved the spring that we were talking about previously to the farthest hole on the governor arm. Went from 19 mph to 25 mph. But I am trying to get to about 30-35 mph. So there’s more work to be done, just not exactly sure what yet. Might go with a torque converter, might just downsize the rear sprocket and upsize the clutch sprocket. Haven’t quite decided yet. I love the torque on this thing though and I know changing the sprockets can mess with the torque. Thanks for your help though and my apologies for my long rant lol

      @@ontheflipsideedc With a 40 rear sprocket and a torque converter. The bike will be quicker and faster than stock. The torque converter makes up the difference in torque loss and then some, from the 40 tooth sprocket.

    A way to make this minibike faster for free (if you have the means necessary to add/remove links from the chains) is to remove the two middle sprockets and drive the rear wheel directly from the clutch on the engine. If your chain has a little bit of stretch in it it works better. Your acceleration will be worse, but I gps tested top speed to 44 mph (23 mph before)

    WARNING : Do not leave the governor mechanism inside the motor. It can, and will, come apart or move around where it will break the oil slinger off of the connecting rod.. Even the smallest broken pieces will jam the compression release from working.....or worse. If you must leave the inner workings in place, then re-install the lever and tie it into the far forward position. This will keep the inner assembly from coming apart.

I removed that spring & brought it to hardware store. Bought a bunch of similar springs that are the same length. Some tigher some looser, all the same length. You can also go on amazon and order kits of springs for you ride real cheap.. Use the new springs and try fitting it into 3 different holes of that gov swing arm. I bought a go kart off Facebook market place and the guy I bought it off of him and his kids pulled the governor out and the go kart top out at 50mph the scariest part about me owning it was the fact the right front tire was missing the cotter pin so the wheel would wiggle when you drove it when I got it I drove it in the drive way A little and noticed it but I was determined to see how fast it went so I drove it on to the road and just hit the gas and just risked it

    Only 33 mph with a Mikuni carb and the governor removed??? I just bought the exact same one a week ago and all I did was cut off the throttle stop screw and zip tied the governor and mine goes 30 mph, 31 mph downhill. I was thinking about getting a KX-80 2-stroke engine or an engine off a KX-100, which would make it fast as hell! Shit, I might put a 1000 cc street rocket engine in it! Lmao

    • @Black66
      @Black66  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right, the stock carb can definitely get you into the thirties. The real reason for the Mikuni that a lot of people don't realize is if you are planning to do future modifications, The Mikuni will support the future mods with ease. It is super easy to tune. We have had this bike into the fifties in future videos.

    Been watching a lot of your videos…lots of great info. I was just handed a Baja mb200…at least I’m pretty sure that’s what it is. Looks the same as your Coleman but the frame is different. Same 196cc engine that’s locked up. The bike was barely used and left sitting outside for a few years. So I got a new predator 212 non hemi for $150 and am getting ready to put it on there. It appears that it will bolt directly in place. I remember this bike being slow and I’d really like to have a bit more go…will the predator make it faster by doing nothing else? Or do I need to remove the governor? Mostly just want to ride some trails with my son, but occasionally I might wanna ride down to the store or just ride to the fishing hole…thanks!

    • @Black66
      @Black66  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! MB200 is a nice bike. The governor will definitely hold it back. If you don't want to do anything else throwing a zip tie in the governor spring will wake up the Predator like in the Predator free mods video. If you start spinning it faster it is recommended to upgrade the flywheel . th-cam.com/video/y3pl7KiSTmY/w-d-xo.html

      Watched that video and it was helpful. I’d like to see it go about 35 maybe….I think I’ll be happy with that for now, is the stock carb on the predator 212 good for that? It seems the Mikuni sticks out a bit and I’d be worried about taking a spill and breaking something.

    I really appreciate your videos and viewer engagement. I tried that soldering trick on my cable and can't get it to stick well. I get it on there, let it cool and when I pull the throttle it comes off. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @Black66
      @Black66  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Ya, you definitely want to get that thing to stick really good. Don't need that coming off while the engine is running. Use some paste flux on it and then let the iron sit on the cable tip until it gets really hot. That way some of the heat is in the cable and then apply the solder. That way it penetrates into cable as your applying the solder.
      . If you have a MIG welder or a flux core wire feed welder you can simply clamp the ground on the metal cable and then just tap the electrode on the cable really quick. It will leave an end on it. If you don't have that you can use a handheld propane torch to solder it on there too. just be careful not to overheat the cable. Sometimes it will get too hot for the solder. You could always just grab a proper length cable with an end already on it .

      @@Black66 Thanks. I ordered a proper length cable with the end on it. Out of curiosity, would a ball of epoxy work too?

      @@curtisbrown5254 Im not sure. I have never tried that. It has to be something that wont come off while the the engine is running or the engine might not be to happy.LOL
