How do you feel about Brazil? Love it or hate it? How do you feel it compares to Terry Gilliam's other films? Which films would you recommend to those who loved Brazil? Thanks for watching!

It’s my #1 film. I appear to own three DVD releases 😅

I prefer it to his other movies because I love a good dystopia. If you like Brazil, I would recommend Dark City, THX-1138 and some Kafka.

Whilst not as nuanced, the original Logan's Run goes some way to approaching a similar theme (analogously)

Cor, I remember the stunned silence that greeted this film in the theatre. And, during the ending, when Jill and Sam drive off to their off-grid house, someone behind me leapt to his feet, shouted "This is bullshit!" and stormed out. Missing the final reversal entirely. And when we left the theatre, we had to walk through our own streets, breathing cool night air, until it was felt that it would be safe to drive. The world had become tenuous and unreal between our arrival and exiting.
Glad to see this film hasn't been entirely forgotten.

I bet this film would be so intense and immersive on the big screen! That's a shame someone walked out so soon missing the big reveal, I hope over time they'd give this film another shot, but I know a few people personally who have never quite been able to get into this one either. 🙊
I really hope this film is never forgotten, to me it's one of cinema's greatest dystopias. Thanks for watching 😁

I always interpreted that Tuttle wasn't real at all, ever. Sam was using Tuttle as a created identity to represent his inner rebellion. Great video though! Seriously shocked there's a lack of analysis and discussion around this film. It's a classic. Earned a sub!

You deserve so much more subscribers. The way you delve in to these films is college level video essay gold. Please keep it up with these movies from The Criterion collection along with the cool gore ones you did like Scanners and Bad Taste. You’re awesome man!

Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying these videos! The Criterion Collection tends to be a priority of mine as I love so much of what they release, but I do enjoy doing the pulpier films too! Polite correction that as a trans woman I don't tend to use "man" but I can appreciate that my voice training hasn't been perfected quite yet 😅. All the best and I hope you enjoy more of what's to come!

One day I hope to get through this movie. Something about the timing with way it was shot and edited always hits me with anxiety to the point I don't think I've ever made it halfway through it. I know it sounds odd but it always feels like everything is just moving way too fast and I just feel so physically uncomfortable I have to stop almost like a panic attack. I can tell there is this brilliance underneath and it looks so incredible and dialogue is phenomenal but it all fades into pure dread to me. One day, I will watch it in chunks over a week or 2.

I think that's fair, it's definitely a stressful film and it has been crafted in a way that certain sequences really become a form of sensory overload. This is certainly a film I don't re-watch if I'm feeling particularly vulnerable because I'd find it anxiety-inducing and too much to take in too, so I can't blame others who may have that experience too. 🙏

I cannot compare Gilliam films against each other to come up with a favorite over another. I love each one for different reasons. Some are more complete than others due to budgets available but the styles and story intents are all brilliant, fun and thought provoking. In an ideal world, Gilliam would have Scorsese size budgets for his movies.
