am i the only one who’s actually quite fond of the ending? sure i would’ve loved it if they ended up together (as we don’t see much of that often), but i do admire that they chose to take the more realistic side of first loves, of young love. if anything, that wasn’t a sad ending at all, but i suppose that does depend on how you choose to see it. from how i saw it marie was miserable for most of the time that she was with her, and i’m glad to see the scene where she was floating in the pool with her best friend, as i think it represents acceptance and her finally coming to terms that she just couldn’t truly have floriane. they were both so immensely young, she has so much love for her and the other one took advantage of that (which might be caused by immaturity or perhaps it’s just simply in her nature). but then again, it also isn’t difficult for me to understand, perhaps not fully but some part of floriane, because at her age she probably hasn’t fully grasped her self yet. although it may have not been in the same level, but i prefer to think that the love between them was mutual.
it was still a sad ending for me because after all, Marie gave everything she has for Floriene. However, I like how it ends as well because both bestfriends realized that not all love is easy, cute, and fluttery all the time. And I agree, this is a very realistic representation of innocent yet genuine first love

I think the ending is perfect and is a great example that you don't always need big payoffs in a movie, or to give the audience exactly what they want.
The line: “Sofia know that you and I, shouldn't feel like a crime.” Hits different when you're living with a family that will literally put you in conversion therapy just for loving who you wanna love.
In other cases, like being single, it'll twist it to not letting unique folks just live, you know. In my perspective, it is more than not letting you love what you love .. AHHH, Wish It's a different world

this movie confused me so much, sometimes i felt like floriane could’ve had at least some feelings for her, and other times i felt like she was just straight up using marie
i feel like she's one of the most complex teenage characters i have ever seen. she doesn't want to be sexualized but at the same time she likes the attention she gets from it. my guess is that because of her liking of the attention and marie's obvious provision of it, she befriends marie. also the fact that she's hated by most girls and now marie treats her differently. there were many implications in the movie which insinuated that she liked marie back, like for example when marie got angry with her and she went for her, the first time we see her facade breaking. marie's also the only one whom i think she confided in about the real status of her sexual life. also marie's her first, so i really think that marie meant something to her. i read somewhere that in the kiss, we can see floriane being more into the kiss than marie, and even she was shocked by it. however, she doesn't want to ruin her image, so she didn't come out.

Just finished watching this, it’s in French but there’s a Spanish subtitle full version here on TH-cam. Since there were subtitles I used google translate and translated all the dialogue to English, it was so worth it. Watched this movie more than 10 years ago. At that time there were not many films with lesbian protagonists...and I liked it. In 2020 I watched "Portrait of a lady on fire" and Adèle's face (blonde gal) was so familiar, -saw her before- I thought. So yes! It was from this wonderful movie and the director was the same one. Since there were subtitles I used google translate and translated all the dialogue to English, it was so worth it. I really loved the movie and all the scenes between the main two girls MADE MY HEART FLUTTER SO MUCH OMFG HELPPPP.
