I discovered that if you work really fast and focus, time flies like a blur. 12 years feels like 2 years to me. After saving enough money, I sold everything I own, bought a farm and lived in the country side, taking care of cows, chickens and planting veggies and fruits. I take things easy and slow now and do things at a leisurely pace. Time is a lot slower now and I am more at peace. I am not poor, but I am not rich either. I want to travel the world and eat all types of dishes, so I have sold some of my cows and bought an expensive Pomeranian dog to breed. She is still 3 months old so after 6 more months she could be bred, I think. Dog breeding is good business just make sure to vaccinate them after buying.
@@levithom Nah.👋Nah. If it was...they all would have huge foreheads. I am telling you this is definitely Mitsuboshi Colors animation. The eyes is what giving it away.
I'm taking a literal and contextual approach for what's happening at the 0:37 mark and most of this clip. (or as much as I can from an American internet armchair perspective, and with no decent experience watching the show, so I'll do what I can) Skip to the end for a summary if you wish. -The show (translated to Strawberry Marshmallow) has been described as "cute girls doing cute things", which appears to be through them being adorable, attempting precociousness, and otherwise thinking and acting silly. -Matsuoka Miu is described in various sources as a Japanese 12-year-old troublemaker and absurdist, although I have no idea of her academic abilities, or how much of her behavior is intentional. She appears to be feigning being an American foreigner in this clip, to avoid answering questions. -The math equation involves addition of mixed fractions, which best I can tell gets covered by Japanese Grade 5. =Ergo, since Miu's age would normally have her in Grade 7 at this time, she *should* be able to answer this if she had average capability and motivation. But due to the show's context and likely her mindset, Miu probably isn't going to give a straight answer. -The answer to the math question is 4 and 5/12. I guess adding together mixed fractions might look intimidating, or at least alot of work. -The answer she gives instead however is "さたけ" written vertically, and it's English translation "Satake" is written atop. To the side of さたけ is an arrow pointing to a cartoonish drawing of a small animal. -Going through information available about the show, their is a Shiba Inu named Satake that is at least featured in some official artwork. I do not know who it belongs to, but Miu is likely familiar with it. Given that, her written answer is probably describing said-dog. -She states "This is an American joke." about her answer. -As others have stated, saying something is "American humor" is a way of saying that maybe this might make sense somewhere else, but it doesn't have enough context here, so don't bother trying to figure it out. -This response aligns with her recent behavior of pretending to being a foreigner to avoid schoolwork, along with her tendency to be absurdist. =So, in summary to the best of my ability: -Miu's trying to avoid schoolwork. -She's pretending to be American to do so. -An intimidating math problem is given. -She gives an absurd answer (the name of a dog she knows) and says it's an "American joke" to avoid criticism. -(She is punished anyways for giving innapropriate response.) So... yeah, I think the girl Miu is trying to be precocious and silly to avoid doing a math problem. It probably fits a common theme for her in the show, if I had to guess.

In all fairness, speaking a language and reading a language are two different things, especially when Japan has three different alphabets: hiragana, katakana, and kanji. It can be easy for some, but for others, it is quite difficult. But Miu was probably just being a troll here, saying she didn't understand Japanese. But to give context for the "American joke" that Miu made, for those wondering: because Japan’s style of telling jokes is different from that of the English-speaking world, especially the United States, Japanese people have difficulty understanding American-style jokes. An example of this is the question and answer joke, such as "Why did the chicken cross the road?" The language and cultural barriers will basically prevent the Japanese from understanding that it's a joke. Same with "knock-knock" jokes. As a result, any joke that they don’t find funny, even if it has nothing to do with the United States or the English language, is called an “American joke” or “American-style joke.” For example, in Azumanga Daioh (published in the same magazine as Strawberry Marshmallow, Dengeki Daioh), there was a chapter where the teacher, Yukari Tanizaki, found a stray kitten and tried to get somebody to take it home with them. One of the students, Tomo Takino, joked that she would take it to the animal shelter near her house. For those who don’t know, most animal shelters in Japan are kill shelters, where the animal is sadly euthanized if no one adopts them within a certain period of time. Naturally, her classmates are horrified at the joke, and Tomo passes it off as an “American-style joke,” because no one found it funny. I hope that helps some people who were wondering what the student in the video meant by an “American joke.” It basically comes down to language and cultural barriers getting in the way of comedy.
