I disagree with the decision. I think you let the kids finish and then delay the later events. The race has already started and will be done in a few minutes. Just let them finish. It's not like the lightning is hitting the track or anything. They'll be fine if they finish the race.

I agree with the lightning break.
But I disagree with the decision to start the race when there's a thunderstorm approaching. There are so many wonderful weather radars all over the country that it is quite easy to see if there are thunderstorms around and where they are moving. The rain itself is uncomfortable but is no problem. But I would not take the risk of running the event with a thunderstorm being close. A lightning is a very dangerous and life threatening incident.

I definitely think we should continue a race and let people get struck by lightning. Great opinion.

Safety first! No exception! A father and son just got struck by lightning while holding hands. The dad unfortunately succumbed and his lil boy is now fighting for his life! It sucks but they will be able to race again and now it is all about mental toughness and focus. They all ran halfway so everyone is dealing with the same recovery.

It was a tough call but this is exactly what separates leaders from the lead. These type of tough decisions! Well done officials!

If I see lightning or hear thunder I'm outta there. Once years ago when my daughter was a softball pitcher at a tournament on a sunny afternoon we heard thunder. I yelled to the ump that the game had to be paused. He agreed and stopped the game. The opposing coach ran out yelling and waving his arms around. While he was raving, a bolt of lightning blew a tree apart about 100 yards away. That was the end of that argument.

Really should be 3000 meters to keep with the rest of the world. 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m.
