I will only donate to causes that I know. Many “charities” only use a very small percentage of the donations for the charity. Up to 90% are often used for “administrative expenses “! That means you’re paying the salary of those who work to raise money. If I am to donate, I want those who call for donations to be volunteers! Otherwise you’re just paying phone solicitors’ salaries! Always ask what percentage goes to administration costs. If they won’t tell you, by saying you have to go to their website, DON’t donate! Definitely don’t go to the website. They track that and use it to call or send unwanted texts and emails. Many so called charities sell your personal information. Always ask if the charity sells or gives away your personal information! If they do, verbally tell them to take your name and information off their calling list AND be sure to tell them NOT TO SELL, or GIVE AWAY, YOUR INFORMATION! As a rule, we never “round up”, because we have no idea where that money goes. It’s the same with tipping. We never tip at a take out restaurant that we do all the work of getting our food, with no waitress involved. We should not be paying the salary of restaurant workers! Food is expensive enough! We need to be more wise with our money! It seems there are tip jars everywhere! I highly recommend not falling for wanting to look charitable. Charity starts at home! People will go broke by wanting to look like they are charitable and not look “cheap”! We give enough by shopping or buying takeout at these places! If you find places you love to shop or buy takeout, the best thing you can do is shop there often and tell others where you like to shop or get takeout. That way the business makes more money, and can hire more workers! It’s important to really know where your hard earned money goes!
