I loved the video. Very helpful and expertly narrated. I've owned 2 Funfest machines and my latest one is the better of the 2. This latest machine I purchased from a man in Silverlake near Los Angeles. I got it cheap and, for the most part, has always worked well with a few mishaps. The machine is in some ways starting to show its age so I think its time that I start performing some maintenance. Thanks to this video, Ill know how to start that project. I was first introduced to the Funfest in 1973 at the Encino Bowling Alley in Encino California at Ventura Blvd and Gaviota. Sadly the bowling alley is long gone. I was 17 when I first played it and would stay there for hours on end playing it with friends. Once I became an adult I had to have one so here it sits in my living room. My grandkids love the machine and have become pinball wizards and we regularly have pinball competitions. I don't remember what my high scores were when I was a teen but my high score on this machine, which was very recent, is 350,000 turning the point counter over 3 times. I have a few small issues with it and your tips will help me to resolve them. On more complicated issues there is a guy locally I call to help me. I'm having trouble with the chime box since the chimes are becoming more and more inaudible. The ball return on the left malfunctions occasionally and the light flickers. Small things to be sure. After watching your video, I'm looking forward to cleaning and polishing the playing field. That needs some help. Anyway, I'm just excited to see others with the passion that I have for the machine, definitely one of the best pinball machines there are in my opinion. Thank you so much for taking the time to make that video. Nick in Colorado
Very nice Pinball Machine and in amazing condition. I love these older EM games. It's a shame some of the machines I've seen over the years since I've been buying and working on EM Machines since the mid 1980s. When they were originally built they were never expected to last, and also the rough treatment they got when they were in the field. It's sad to think how many ended up in people's Barns for several decades, or worse ending up in a Landfill. Nobody imagined almost 50 years ago that your "Fun Fest" would be in the condition it is. I've never had the opportunity to play this Pin before, but it looks like a fun machine and very fast game play. On a scale of 1 to 10, yours looks like a solid 9.I'm not sure if you did or not, but it's a good idea to use LEDs behind the Backglass. The heat from incandescent bulbs will cause the paint to flake off. The Backglass is one of the most valuable parts on a Pinball machine and can be very hard to find a replacement.I have used a clear coat on some older Backglasses and it prevented them from flaking further.
Very nice job going through all of the key areas to check out and fix up on a pin. Your work is excellent. I like the way you go through everything step by step with just enough detail to show how much of a difference a little bit of TLC will do for the pin. I have a new appreciation for some of those EM's that I would have just walked by in the past. Keep the vids coming!
You can Clean the Bottom of the Play fields and circuit Boards using "EXTRA HOLD HAIR SPRAY", I saw one of their videos; Said you can spray "Extra Hold Hair Spray" to clean and Protect any Play-fields and Circuit Boards. Going to try it on my New Ghost Busters Pinball and my Other EM Pinball I have !.
Wow, man. What a fabulous job! you really got a fast and smooth gameplay going there. Thanks for taking us through all the details and the tips you gave. I've been swamped in a Gottlieb EM restoration project for a couple of years now, without enough knowledge of how to do it right. I'm inspired to go back now and take another look. Thanks and enjoy your machine.
What a great video. Thank you for taking the time to put that very informative video together. I have been playing the FunFest machine since 1973 when the local bowling alley, Encino Bowl, got one. The Encino Bowling alley doesnt exist anymore but my FunFest memories sure do. I immediately fell in love with FunFest and have been playing it ever since. I've owned 2 FunFest machines over the years. My first I purchased in 1985 and now I am on my second FunFest machine which I purchased in Los Feliz California about 15 years ago. The machine I have now is in very good condition and works well but there are some glitches which you bring up in your video. The chime box is glitchy and doesn't chime as frequently as it should or sound as clear and crisp as it should. Through your video I realized that I don't have the rubber spacers under the chimes so Ill install those with the fuel line fix. I can imagine that some or many of the point contacts are dirty because some lights flicker, some bumpers don't kick back strongly, the left return lane kicker to return the ball back into play doesn't always work and the light flickers. I also have the problem of the light lenses on the playing field coming our or not sitting flush so your suggestion to repair that is great. The playing field paint and artwork is in good shape but it is dirty and could use some attention. I have always been told by pinball repair people to never try cleaning the playing field with chemicals and its best to just use soap and water with a soft rag. Well, soap and water only removed dust, not ground in dirt and age. According to your video, the Naphtha looks like it worked well so I will give that a try. Anyway, its very nice to see others take an interest in the FunFest machine. It is a very fun and challenging game to play. My two grandsons now play the machine every time they come over and they know all the tricks. Both boys have turned the score counters over twice so their high scores are in the 200,000. Thanks again, your video is very informative and will help me to maintain my machine for years to come.
thanks, im glad you liked the video. funfest is great, the four pop bumpers make the game super fun. when ever i play a different pinball i always wish it had a pop bumper setup like funfest.
Great video, very thorough! Thanks for putting all the time into making it. It's a great help to those new to EMs like myself, lots of specifics and great visuals. Plus, I'd just watched another video of Fun Fest prior, and your video shows just how big a difference a good restoration or even simple repairs and improvements can make. The other video made the game look pretty dull, slow, bad sounds. After the resto, yours is much faster, and the chimes sound much better. Nicely done!

I have the exact same unit at my house but I am missing the coin mechanism that when you put coins in it what counted as a fresh game so like it's got the little feeler that feels the coin but it's missing the rest of the mechanism

Great video! I love EM pinball machines. It's awesome to see such dedication preserving them.
