Landrover LR3 Fuel level sender replacement

2007 Land Rover LR3 HSE came in with an inop fuel gauge. Needle would sit on E and fuel low warning would flash. Code scan showed a faulty FRONT fuel sender. These tanks have two senders. Front and back. The back one is pretty easy to replace, it's attached to the pump assembly. The front however has been said to be impossible and some shops even try to sell you the entire tank. This video shows that it can be done although difficult.

THANKS for the video, my forearm is a bit big and almost cut it open, but I made a sleve out of a slick rag and fastened with rubber bands, came out fine

Looks like in this case the front sensor is #2.
Rear sensor #1.

Has anyone had issues with the flat plastic support at the center of the tank? I can’t even get my hand past that portion to get to the fuel sender

@@bestservice1218 what does the front sending unit do? Ours got the P0087 code and we R&R the front high pressure pumps. Still stalls at random. No new codes, just shuts off. 2012 LR4.

HalfMoon I believe the front unit is only for averaging the fuel level. The ecu compares the front and rear to find an average. It’s a bit over engineered.

@@bestservice1218 Thank you. I replaced tank pump, gas cap, crank sensor, MAF sensors, air filters, battery, cleaned throttle body and injectors and still stalls at random. Sometimes it runs 2 days before stalling. Sometimes it won't run 2 minutes.
