I realize the car could probably have been improved with the addition of a proper dual clutch gearbox but to say that the 8 speed ZF auto is "like a conventional auto" is an utterly ridiculous and widely disagreed with opinion.
Here we are two years later and that ZF 8-speed is still better than most. Suppose a 7 speed DCT could improve shift times but the ZF is almost as quick and rather solid
as an SVR owner, it says a lot about the car if you are going to compare it to a GT3 that is 50K+ more expensive and in today's market at least 100 more. You can get one of these for 718 (non GT4) money. As a daily, I would argue it sounds way better than Porsche. It has a track edge that you can take to the track occasionally but isnt meant to beat you up like a GT3 or GT4. This is C8 stingray money and I would argue is wayyyy more gorgeous. The SVR is incredibly underrated and I have a new respect for Jag. Great review btw
+SoCalFreelance why do you think they have not done that yet...the car has been out fr long time now.. It would have been competing with Holy trinity.. They have other important priorities like building new svo division.
Why is it so out of the question for Jaguar to have a flagship hypercar? The XJ220 was produced to much acclaim. A brand like Jaguar can become diluted if they don't have a flagship vehicle/s which demonstrates their heritage, engineering, and design prowess. I'm sure Ford has other priorities too, but they still produced the GT anyway. Same with Porsche and the 918.
+SoCalFreelance yes they should. but like I said they don't make profits like ford and Porsche does. They would rather invest more of the their profit to their RnD and expanding business. Also these hypercars won't give them profit as their regular luxury cars do. But it would be awesome if they could.
Satwik Basu LFA? SLS? Pretty much every classic supercar in existence (E.G Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari Daytona, Lamborghini 350GT, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, etc)?
Jag needs to step up to the next level this is very much a gimmick. Loads of aluminium but still as heavy as xj if they want the svr badge taken seriously then lose 150kg at least add dsg an they should easily be getting 600hp from that engine and on that note redevelop it with turbos this car could an should be so much more!
it is active but it doesn't hide inside the car like the regular wing on the normal F-type version. you can choose this SVR wing or the regular wing for the SVR
mika haken well, the SLS was actually mid-engine, the engine was just still infront of the driver. That’s why the driver is practically sat on the rear axel
I find it weird that Jaguar has not nailed this already - They build a brand new car, new platform, everything and even now with this SVR version Mr. Sutcliffe is not really excited. If it is too high expectations towards at home brand I do not know, but I do not think so. But perhaps Jaguar have figured it out and will hit, as suggested in the video on, the absolute right spot for buyers of this car. Is the Jaguar F-Type hot in the USA ?
It should have a "drift mode" button like the new ford focus to lock up the rear diff, and send 100% to the rear, to make it a dual purpose drift and fun or safe and fast car imo.
7 years later and that “slow shifting” ZF 8 speed is in the fastest accelerating car in the world lol. (Dodge demon 170) there’s nothing slow or laggy about that transmission. No it’s not PDK, but it snaps off shifts fast, has great input and does it reliably.
I had a 21 spyder and found it to be dreadfully boring car way to slow and gearing was so high u had to really get at it to enjoy it and let's be real I never tracked it. And the sound was sooooo boring This is a driving car it's got more power the sound is unbelievable. Day to day ull have loads more fun.
Great review Steve. IMO, while the SVR is faster, the spoiler kind of looks like an aftermarket job on the near flawless design of the R. Same goes with the Aventador SV.
So now that we've seen the limit of the F-type, and it doesn't really seem to care about showing the GT3 its heels, the paddles seem even more out of place. Aston has the sense to include a gear lever in a car that is equal parts soul and speed. I think Aston wins this round, although I don't know what model I'd compare to the SVR.
The oversteer, The sound and the looks is what gives this car it's character.. F type won't be fun if they make it to compete GT3RS which is all about track times.
This is a terrible and silly way to try and fake a car's balance. They should have tuned the suspension to the car's natural balance, which is grip transitioning to understeer.
How is the car? It's fast. How does it sound? Pretty great, listen to it. Lighter, stiffer, more power. Then some drifting. All these car channels are basically doing the same thing for 3 years now. Getting bored with it.
Nah, manuals have their place but this wouldn't make sense as a manual. The V6 comes with a manual and that's perfect. Dual clutch/auto transmissions are necessary for high bhp torquey cars as it helps with the delivery of the power. Plus this would be a monster to control in pure manual form. My neighbor has the V6 convertible manual and trust mate it's perfect. Jaguar nailed the line up on the F Type models.
Beautiful video of a beautiful car! The looks and sound alone are worth the price of the SVR! Although I still can't bring myself to like the awd because it just does not suit the F-Type's character.
***** Doesn't front engine usually mean liftoff *understeer* though with torque-related oversteer? I mean, I was thinking that to be a mostly mid-engine thing, but it is easy to do to a front-engine vehicle with a few subtle suspension changes. Don't take my word for it though; I just learned that from spending hours tuning cars in Forza Motorsport.
“Twice less” you mean half as much. One of the main reasons people buy flashy cars is to show off and to impress women. Where I live, California, nobody under 60 is going to be impressed by a Vette because they are old guy cars. Young people don’t buy them since the average Vette buyer is old enough to collect Social Security.
Can't beat physics. A sexy beast no doubt, but this version seems pointless. 10-15K more gets you a 911 Turbo which is better in every way but looks. Peak F-Type is probably a V6-S convertible. This thing is just confused
fuckoffgoogle The car can't make use of the power and torque it has.... even more power would only make things worse. Like I said this thing can pretty much only handle ~400HP. Multiple reviewers have agreed that the V6S is the sweet spot, and the V8s are too much. But they review the V8s more because mouthbreathers like yourself automatically assume more power is always better.
Unless you are loaded you had better be saving hard cos the first Tesla coupes will be about $300,000 out the door, later edition will start at only $250,000!

Most of the railway lines in India were designed and built by the British does that make them British ? How about Ben and Jerrys, British owned, does that make it English ice cream? A lot of Californian vineyards are French owned does that make it French wine? See how silly it gets!
It’s a Jag! Test the 911GTS which is what you pay for a for this Jag and you get a faster better street and track car along with world class reliability. Everything the Jag does not.

That ZF 8 gearbox is fast enough, not half as slow as Steve says in the video!! I´Ve droven the cae and it is fabulous!! A absolute riot !

So glad Steve did this review :D
Agree!
Agression and art working together.
Why can't Top Gear be this good. Steve is class.
You want all of the interior shots in Top Gear to be massively under exposed? You're weird.
Steve and chris harris and jethro should have there own show
リトルセインツ
Bawan Hoshyar ikr.
I love the new era of British sports cars and Super Cars. The new Aston Martin db11 is also a masterclass
Wow, the description of the suspension is insightful. Excellent review
Jaguar it's not too late to put the C-X75 into production to represent your flagship supercar!
They can't. They don't have the budget to make million dollar production car.
What? Of course Jaguar/Land Rover has the capital to build the C-X75. Their net income for 2014 was 2.5 billion GBP with revenue of 19.4 billion GBP
+SoCalFreelance why do you think they have not done that yet...the car has been out fr long time now.. It would have been competing with Holy trinity.. They have other important priorities like building new svo division.

So it is not a supercar because it is front engined? Then the SLR, 599, F12 are not supercars. That part was plain stupid, rest of the video's good.
Maybe its just me, but I consider the SLR, 599 and F12 to be hyper-GTs!
+Rogue Qall yeah you got it right.
Satwik Basu LFA? SLS? Pretty much every classic supercar in existence (E.G Ferrari 250 GTO, Ferrari Daytona, Lamborghini 350GT, Mercedes-Benz 300SL, etc)?
Not much for all the "Neurosis", but the driving was class! How can you criticise someone who can handle a car like that?Great review!
very beatiful design.
Just an awesome car! It looks quite good and sounds so amazing!
My dad has this exact car and I can’t believe it still 😂
Since maybe one percent of owners will do track days what was the point of this test? And twin clutch gearboxes are notoriously fragile in normal use.
This car should be called "Elephant F-type SVR" because of its drifting sound.
very good review , personally i dont Like the spoiler on the car
You can have the normal one as an option
It's an active aero wing. Didn't you see the shot of the wing moving?
you can choose to remove it when ordering now...
it is active but it doesn't hide inside the car like the regular wing on the normal F-type version. you can choose this SVR wing or the regular wing for the SVR
would defenitly order the normal spoiler :p
Wait why must supercars be mid engine? the SLS was front engined and that is a classic supercar.
mika haken well, the SLS was actually mid-engine, the engine was just still infront of the driver.
That’s why the driver is practically sat on the rear axel

Is the Jaguar F-Type hot in the USA ?
That steering wheel didn't have suede on it
That car is the best GT car on earth.
You completely missed the point of the car. It's not a GT3 track car, it's a road car, so why not devote your time to testing it on the road.
Maybe the svr badge makes him think it's a performance car
It should have a "drift mode" button like the new ford focus to lock up the rear diff, and send 100% to the rear, to make it a dual purpose drift and fun or safe and fast car imo.
It does... turn traction control off...
This car makes the Aston Martin Vantage S V8 obsolete.
Hahaha such an awesome intro!😃

Totally right about the gearbox! Ive never liked it for fast driving, isnt sharp enough!
Steve, how would you rate this compared with the GT4 718?
I had a 21 spyder and found it to be dreadfully boring car way to slow and gearing was so high u had to really get at it to enjoy it and let's be real I never tracked it. And the sound was sooooo boring

Whats the music in the background?
I want to see an XE SVR... Jaguar, please make one!
They basically did. Project 8
Cool car! How is it priced compared to the GT3? Because if they're similar priced, I think I would go for the GT3.
so you're saying 991 Carerra S> F type SVR?
Personally i'd rather have the 911.
Chris Sorreda Me 2!
Chris Sorreda but that sound!!
So now that we've seen the limit of the F-type, and it doesn't really seem to care about showing the GT3 its heels, the paddles seem even more out of place. Paddles do sell sports cars though, and the F-type is nothing without the curb. My interest drifts towards Jag's sedan lineup.
The oversteer, The sound and the looks is what gives this car it's character.. F type won't be fun if they make it to compete GT3RS which is all about track times.
"Aston has the sense to include a gear lever" ...as much as I love Aston, it took them long enough to put a manual in their car!
Steve Sutcliffe is so awesome!
the background music please
Actually it does 60 in 2.9 secs and tops at 202
Lol no. 0-60 in 3.5 and tops at 200 mph
@@vika0194I’ve done 3.2 with my current svr - zero mods - 5% ethanol
@@Deathstaroya Good. But still not 2.9. I have an R.
They made the back stiffer so that it oversteers more thab before, because it has 4 wheel drive and engine in the front.

+future62 or just simply make it rwd
The only Jag I want
Think I'd stick with the normal R for nearly half the price of the svr in second hand prices.
That elephant sound at the start
great review :)
Looks like the same blue, which Ford uses for their Focus RS...
no absolutely not. Both are blue but the RS blue is far brighter and lighter.
Awesome car, but I think I prefer the noise of the Aston Martin GT8 :)
Love the back wing even more did test the f type jag have came so far but lots of money and small things running cost
The SVR is king of AWD F-Types, but the RWD F-Types have 10% more WHP and are 300 pounds lighter, making them the king of ALL F-Types.
Steve Sutcliffe for Top Gear.
Best car ever.
I got so much hate driving this thing around my neighborhood, it's really loud
My dream car
How is the car? It's fast.
How does it sound? Pretty great, listen to it.
Lighter, stiffer, more power.
Then some drifting.
All these car channels are basically doing the same thing for 3 years now. Getting bored with it.
What would you do different? Only so much you can do with a car.
it's the recipe to modern car "journalism"...
zzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZ
You could say that about lots of things and make them sound boring. Go drive your car on a track and you'll feel better.
Buh dumm tsss
New shirt Steve?
you have to be on Porsche payroll smh
jag needs to reduce the weight on these f types if they want to compete with gt3's or amg gt s's on track
Ed Watters it does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds I think that's quick enough. bet they build a SVR-R
They don't. It's a road car.
This guy absolutely loves the word neurotic
It'$ build for me that'$ why it'$ so good✅Thank you Jaguar corperation'$🤑✋
Should have been a manual.
nah, fuck off Steve

Rupert Everett?
Nope
I get the impression Steve likes the word 'neurotic'.

Man, fuck that liftoff oversteer! I mean, guess that's almost the point, but it seems more like a serious suspension goof-up to me.
I'll give it one thing though: the looks are to die for!

Cooles Auto :-)
This felt a lot like an advertisement.
Left and right air front gaps are fake
So not quite a 911 in handling and I guess "steering feel"...
Nice car but not a fan of that wing!
I bet that standard Corvette will go faster around the track for twice less money.
Piss off you knob
maybe, maybe not with the Z51, but when the grand sport hits later this year? I'd put my money on THAT vette
I bet the Mustang 350R already does for 1/4th of the money.
