This is a beautiful full-circle moment because Drew Brees is the main QB that CJ Stroud grew up emulating. CJ used to watch videos of Drew Brees on TH-cam to mimic his footwork, delivery, anticipation, and poise. Now, Drew Brees is on TH-cam breaking down CJ Stroud 🥲
I think it was 2019 or 2020, but I looked at all 32 starting QBs in the NFL and tried to see how many were on record as having a QB they really looked up to while they were growing up. Brees had the most, it was at least 5-6. Dak and Burrow are two I remember off the top of my head.

Coaches already trusting CJ to adjust the routes. On that throw to Noah Brown, CJ asked him to adjust the route. Linebackers were settling at a certain depth, he asked Noah to be shallower.

We miss you in NOLA Drew. I am still pissed off as hell (for you mostly) at that last 5 year stretch, you deserved at 3/4 SB appearances. You are the GOAT right up there with Brady 1a/1b. I dont care what anyone says. I watched you your whole career. Your one of the best throwers of the football. What you didnt have physically you made for it with preparation and cerebral play with accurate passes and exceptional footwork. Best thing to happen to NOLA since the po-boys and gumbo... As a Texans fan I feel like we finally have hope. We have had good teams but we always knew they could never beat the Brady and Manning or Mahomes. After we had our team blow up it was like all hope was gone. We have a long way to go but CJ has given us the hope we can get to a superbowl at some point down the line.
I'm not a Houston fan but an Ohio State fan and I got to watch Cj two years in a row but the dude can sling the rock and ain't scared to take chances either

Stroud has received a lot of well deserved praise and attention for how his play right outta the gate as a rookie. It has been impressive. The thing I haven't heard receive much discussion or recognition is this patch work O Line. 2nd, 3rd and even 4th stringers are truly blowing me away. In yrs prior, the Texans have had fully healthy starters on the line and have been porous butter like garbage. Idk if it's the play calls that put the line and Stroud in more successful situations or the O Line coach or what it is. But it's truly amazing that Stroud is able to stand back there un harrassed for so many snaps/drop backs considering the injuries and constant shuffling of linemen.
You quarterbacks are crazy geniuses. 1,2.5 seconds, decision made and action taken. That's why I love this game.
When I heard Drew Brees made a TH-cam channel I knew I had to check it out, very informative breakdown of an excellent drive by one of my favorite young QBs by my favorite QB of all time, and I’m super excited to see more content from him in the future!
Brees is a motivating person, he is not just a member of a team as many are, but a leader of a team! Many QBs manage the team and games... Here's my philosophy on leadership and management,several combat tours, led thousands over 23 years in the military....
"management is concerned if they have enough Big Macs for the lunchtime rush.
Leadership gets men to leave the comfort and safety of a covered position and assault a fortified position!"
See the difference, leaders can be managers, not all managers can be leaders. Leadership is art and management is science, one focuses on people and their strengths and weaknesses, the other likes analytics, statistics, charts and diagrams! Leaders win and persevere, they have empathy, self inflection, know when to lead and when to follow. Managers manage the game, don't necessarily inspire people, get the best from them and necessarily care about the team, just outcomes. The former is the true winner and the latter is winner sometimes, not consistently and generally don't go on to become great! Brees is a leader!

The defense is easily read, cover 4 quarters. The dbs defend the deep ball, the lbs are defending the goal line. CJ reads this as soon as the defense is set. He moves the safety with his eyes watching brown as he breaks and resets hitting an anticipation pass to Dell over the top. CJ is getting the ball into the end zone to either Brown as he nears the goal line, or Dell when the safety commits to the inside move. Great play call by Slowik in the situation, perfect execution by the offense.

Great video! I alway love listening to your insight. A side note If you remember, at the Saints 10 year Superbowl reunion at the Hyatt, I was standing by the escalator when you and Brittany was going up the escalator to the party. Brittany’s red bottom heel got caught in the escalator and you came to the rescue. I was like “what’s up Drew” and you responded “what’s up man”. That was one of the highlights of my life lol. I was in NO for the first of my sons 3 football state championship wins. Thanks for making that night even more memorable!
