It's legal up to 18 weeks for now. On March 3rd, Governor Cox signed HB 467 into law. HB 467 will close all abortion clinics. Abortions would have to be performed in a hospital or hospital clinic. There are other stipulations that would also essentially block most abortions. Utah also has an abortion trigger ban law, Senate Bill 174 in 2020, referred to as the “Trigger Ban,” which went into effect on June 24, 2022. These laws have been blocked by the courts.
And the sudden rise in infant mortality's are being conveniently ignored. But that's just like a pro-lifer. They give a crap as long as it's in the womb, afterward they give enough to chastise and complain, nothing more.
Religion brings out the good in most people, but the rise in self-righteous evangelicals and crazy pastors has shown the dark side of moral misapplication. We all want life's decisions to be simple, but they are complex. That's why education is so important, because you learn to understand the "gray" and allow flexibility for the ambiguity in life. Our Constitution is structured on legal ambiguity.
Donald Trump said he was the one responsible for overthrowing Roe vs.Wade. Trump also said as President he would sign a law that abortion would be outlawed in every state in the United States. Republicans in Congress will follow suit. Joe Biden believes women have the right to choose what is best for their life and not have the government take their rights away. If you want to protect a women's freedom then vote blue for both the President as well as Congress.
This is why we have to vote in Democrats until the GOP recovers some grasp of reality and quits catering to a tiny minority of extremists. Every state where people have been allowed to vote have come down on the side of pro choice, including really red states like Kansas.
If they are republican, they should be ashamed to suit because they would be part of the problem. If they are not republican, then they should most definitely file the lawsuit.

So abortion in this case the needs of the mother outweigh to those of the child she is carrying. Terminating her pregnancy did end the life of that child but saved her future children and saved the child that was terminated from a painful death cause fetus do not feel pain until week 29. I hope all the prolifers see this as reason why medical abortion is healthcare.
They aren’t even pro-babies because they don’t care about what happens to that baby after they are born. They are pro-tradition because sometimes abortion is necessary to increase the chances that a baby survives. I’m referring to, if a mother has 3 or more babies at a time. The human body isn’t designed to hold 3+ babies in one pregnancy. So, aborting one or more babies, could greatly increase the chances of the other baby(s) to survive till full term.
This is obviously barbaric. Something you would expect to happen in El Salvador, not in the Western world. I take issue with Ms. Cox's framing this as 'I wanted an abortion because I did not want my baby to suffer and I wanted to preserve my fertility'. That may well be part of the story, but surely the most important reason for her wanting to terminate was self-preservation, and that's as legitimate a reason as it gets. Women should not feel the need to justify their decisions through the lens of the 'self-sacrificing mother' archetype. Cox should have felt comfortable saying: 'I prioritize me. I refuse to go through 3 more months of debilitating pregnancy, to then have a painful birth, for a sick baby that is going to cause my own health to deteriorate and is not going to make it past her first week of life. My body, my health and my well-being come first'.
How dare these disgusting people decide the fate of other people’s lives. These pro life people have no decency. Rick Santorum should mind his own business and be glad he was lucky.
Some of y’all comments!! She didn’t lose a baby. She had its life terminated. There is a difference. TX did right to refuse her an abortion. Her life wasn’t in jeopardy anymore than any other pregnancy would have caused. She is a post abortive woman, plain and simple. Her baby might have died just as it might have lived several years. But certain death over possible death?? No!! Y’all just celebrating an abortion.
This woman killed her baby because she had a disability and put her through even more pain by dismembering her. Then she got pregnant again, risked uterine rupture again, and celebrated the “normal” baby. Her life wasn’t in imminent threat, her baby was. She should not be praised.
There have been many stories about non-white pregnant women who couldn't afford to flee their states to receive care. One woman had just bus fare to get to an abortion clinic. She had to stay in a homeless shelter and get food from a food bank. There have been many who weren't able to find the funds to travel and have the procedure. They have been forced to deliver at term and watch their babies die.
COME ON, ABORTION IS NOT, MEDICAL CARE! There is something off kilter with this storyline! I can show you a lil girl who's not 7yrs, got a call early morning from the mom because the doctor said she would be damaged! I wish you could see her now!
It seems like she had a very pessimistic outlook when her doctors told her about the trisomy. They chose to sue the state. This is terrible but there are other ways to handle this. If she had any sort of fever or infection she would have had access to an abortion. I know how this works because my wife and I were in a similar situation but we were at 22 weeks.
Unfortunately her life wasn't in danger, her baby had trisomy18, the baby was going to die , I would have taken that week with that little angel,Unfortunately she murdered her baby, how selfish of her!!!!

@redbougainvillea. The authorities have the right to do this because of the voters who supported Trump. They made all of this possible by overturning Roe vs Wade. It is baffling that republican women vote against their own interests.

You know, it is not surprising at all that the state is so cruel, mean, and unsympathetic to her health issues. Look at all the pain this country has put black people through for centuries. Same thing goes for other minorities. It is in line with who we are as a country. Sadly.
Always the race card which has nothing to do with this woman's plight. She doesn't portray herself as a victim, but it's much more comfortable that way, eh?

Shame on the Texas attorney general!!!!!
Come to utah for an abortion. We don't have a law banning it. Texas really needs to consider mental health as well.
Give it time. Utah is one of the reddest states in the union.

Trump also said as President he would sign a law that abortion would be outlawed
in every state in the United States. Republicans in Congress will follow suit.
Joe Biden believes women have the right to choose what is best for their life and not have the government take their rights away.
If you want to protect a women's freedom then vote blue for both the President as well as Congress.
Seeing this and seeing my sister's liver complications due to pregnancy makes me more pro choice.
Why aren't women in Texas outraged? The complacency here is astounding! I can't wait to move from this hell hole
How many pro-lifers believe in the death penalty!
And are against sensible and sane gun laws to stop the slaughter of children in school
This is why we have to vote
This is why we have to vote in Democrats until the GOP recovers some grasp of reality and quits catering to a tiny minority of extremists. Every state where people have been allowed to vote have come down on the side of pro choice, including really red states like Kansas.
I’m so glad they are suing! More women need too!😊
There were already 22 women suing Texas because they couldn’t get help that would be routine in blue states for emergencies in their pregnancies.
If they are republican, they should be ashamed to suit because they would be part of the problem. If they are not republican, then they should most definitely file the lawsuit.
Paxton is a monster.
The thought that the law would punish this woman and her husband like this is ungodly.
This couple are thinking of a future with many more children. So sad that Texas thinks they have the right to a women's body, as many other states do.
ONLY the red states. We need to turn them blue until the GOP is forced to reign in the extremists.
The government thinking they have the right to tell a women what she can do with her body is ridiculous!!!!
I’m really sorry that the state of Texas has invaded your personal lives
This was made possible by the voters who supported Trump. He made it possible to overturn Roe vs Wade. Put the blame squarely where it belongs.
This is NOT the business of the state. It is only to be decided by the family and their doctor. This is NO ONE else's business. The state actually added to and increased the pain of this situation. That is the definition of evil.
A women should have this right...its her body! Bottom line!!!

Thankful for those who show compassion and empathy in their remarks.
The Handmaid's Tale is supposed to be fiction!
Why is it that if you go out into the street and start shouting that women and children should die and suffer, then he will be considered crazy, but if you go out and shout about banning abortions (which is the same thing according to Suta) then there will be those who will support you!?
Vote republicans out
We have already seen it. If the Republicans get their way, A national ban on abortion at any time, with no exceptions, is coming. Vote.
So this unnecessary drama was all about forthcoming elections?
@RitaHartmann This interview was to educate the public about the deleterious effects of imposing an abortion ban even with so called restrictions. There are many more families who have been harmed. Women are being forced to remain pregnant even if it kills them. No one should make these decisions for them!
Dear Kate and Justin, I am so sorry that you had to go through this agony.
But surely the royalties from the book and speeches will give you much comfort!
Sweet woman. We are with you and may God bless and protect you.
Republican law and policy makers need to recognize that the option for abortion is essential in cases like Kate Cox’s. If they don’t, this will cause people to leave their states, which will leave them with fewer potential voters.
I like how the media has told everyone where they had it. Abbott and his buddies are rubbing their hands together trying to figure out how to proceed. If the kid did survive, she would have been on SSDI or something and the kid's behaviour would have drawn out the bullies and people who can't handle working with or around folks who have health problems. What is it moms tell their kids, I brought you into this world, I CAN TAKE YOU OUT? Food for thought. And those words have been yelled by Republican parents many times I guarantee it.🤥
It's heinous what Texas put her through.
So sad that this couple had to go through this. 😔

There are consequences to the lawmakers that we support, and the policies that we vote for.
That hasn’t been said as far as I know. But it also is not important. People who thought they were part of the misnamed “pro life” group are finding out that they were clueless as to how extreme that movement would get. This is why no politician or court should be allowed to interfere in personal healthcare.
@@bevtaylor5466 Au contraire! It is very important because it shows that a large portion of the population lacks empathy and foresight. They are not able to put themselves in the shoes of others.
They aren't pro life. They are pro babies.
They are pro-embryo. They could care less about it once it’s born.
Not pro babies, they’re pro fetuses. Once they’re born, they don’t give a damn.
Absolutely shameful.
My heart goes out to you i know how you feel
I’m so sorry, little angels! Both of you had to endure such a thing bc of politics! I’d move from Texas!
What further proof is need than to look at Mr. Cox to confirm how this issue, also involves Men.

Hmmm...
I don't get it. Call me old. Call me stupid. Please explain?
Your pain is not the repubs' concern.
This woman killed her baby because she had a disability and put her through even more pain by dismembering her. Then she got pregnant again, risked uterine rupture again, and celebrated the “normal” baby. Her life wasn’t in imminent threat, her baby was. She should not be praised.
Thank you for covering this story.
Here in California, we are pro-abortion. Texas is against it. Thoughts and prayers go out to Kate and the Cox family.
Pro choice is a better description since there is no movement trying to force anyone into aborting.
Please share a story of a low income non white pregnant person who does not have this much resources to go out if state.
I have the feeling the people who are against abortion would have even less empathy for them.
