July 28, 2012 was one of the best concerts Bruce´s done. Period! If you weren´t there maybe you disagree but for us who were... Oh my God... Just the fact that this was the first time he played Jungleland since the Big man passed shoulf tell you something. To us in the audience it was a token of mutual love and respect.
Members of the band say they can read Bruce's mind, particularly Max when he decides to "revise" a song, change tempos, do another round, etc.. but Kevin needs to be given lots of credit with that, too. Change of guitars, catch one, toss one, harmonica? What key of harmonica...etc... Saw an interview with the lighting crew...they have 7 binders of his songs/what lights to go with in split seconds when he calls an audible...plenty of "generic" ones, too. Well oiled isn't the word for it!
This is an amazing performance. They played this at fenway night 2 in 2003 and my mind exploded. I couldn't believe it. It's a favorite of mine and I thought the odds of ever hearing it live were 0.
One of his best songs I've never heard. My true love is named Frankie, we separated 2 years ago. Depression and financial troubles broke our line of communication. I still love her.
Can't get enough of this! I think it is funny how he now "embraces" the "f*($(" cell phones he used to hate! So love this. Hope to hear it live one day.
Such a nice piece.... Think one of the Best you did, Can not understand why this one was. Not included in a LP. Thanks so much for your nice nice melodies, harmony, good vibes, thanks!!!!!
BtR was 1975, so that wouldn't have worked, nor do I think it would have fit with the great, but dark (although occasionally hopeful) Darkness (1978) songs (and which Darkness song would you drop?) The River (1980)? Yup. Instead of, oh, Crush on You, or You Can Look. But as others have pointed out, the amazing thing is that Bruce's outtakes, that can't make it onto an album, are better than 95% (or more) of what everyone else releases.
That's the fault of the lawsuit with Mike Appel, Bruce was writing epic rock material in the vein of Born To Run back in late '75-'76, and Frankie was one of these songs, but then he became disabused by the lawsuit with Appel, came back to the studio with a much darker mood and dismissed most of his '75-'76 compositions in favor of the harder and darker songs found on Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Darkness is one of my favorite albums and Bruce wouldn't be Bruce without the painful years he underwent in the mid-70s, so I don't regret it at all, but I really wish he'd had enough time to record a missing link between Born To Run and Darkness, Frankie really would have deserved its place on an official album. I do think it could have made it on The River, it would have sounded quite on topic with other epic pieces like Point Blank and Drive All Night (both originally written for Darkness by the way), but again it missed the train. Bruce retried it in '82, which yielded the version of the Tracks compilation, but then it would have sounded too old-styled on an album like Born In The USA, and I guess that's why he dismissed it again. In fact even before I learned Frankie was actually written in '76, just after buying Tracks, I was surprised that it was recorded in '82, given how mid-70s it sounded compared to other Nebraska/Born In The USA outtakes! But I agree that his outtakes are incredibly brilliant, most of these songs would be considered the pinacle of any other artist, which further highlights how talented Bruce is as a songwriter, the amount of legendary material written between '75 and '84 was just unmatchable!
I had forgotten about this marvellous song. It goes back deep into my late adolescence, when I was in a land abroad and felt somehow lonely. It's not in The River album, it's an outtake, Bruce also forgot it 😊. Today listening to Western Stars it came back somehow...
According to the liner notes on TRACKS, this was recorded during sessions for BORN IN THE USA ., probably my least favorite album of Bruce and the band (pre reunion)......too bad, it's better than almost anything on it. The main riff makes me imagine something you might hear on the boardwalk in Jersey coming out of an arcade. It has that carnival thing. Springsteen is the same age as me, but had such a different experience with Rock 'n Roll than this So Cal kid. I love everything about that difference........
Max keeps trying to count it off. Probably because of the tempo the band might have not known it. Charlie and Jake weren't around when it was recorded. The congas don't fit the song at all.
Springsteen is the greatest....absolutely the greatest songwriter and live performer there has ever been as far as I am concerned.
+johnnyM809 Totally agree, was lucky enough to see him in London a couple of years ago
AGREE !!
100% agree!
Agree..❤🐿🍀🌵
Bruce's B-sides and outtakes are better than 99% of everyone else's recordings.
This is 1 of my favourite Springsteen songs ever.
I heard it on a crappy bootleg in 89, blown away then blown away now
This song is a hidden classic!!! Nothing better than Bruce and the E street band! Let’s go!!!
Kralju jedan jedini zauvek. Boli glava od ove pesme.
Nils's picking, Soozie's violin, Bruce's Telecaster ... for me, this sums up the summer of 2012. Get something in the eye err' time I hear it.

O man sounds awesome. I saw them in providence on that same tour. Awesome night!
Sounds so tight that one would think it was a show regular and not, you know, one of tenish performances ever. Happy and proud to have been there.
frankie teardrop. won't you spare a tear for frankie
Absolutely fantastic version of this rarely heard outtake!!!!
Named my beautiful kitten after this song. It fits her and I sing it to her all the time. My other cat was named Boss.
What an incredible version of this song. I've never had the pleasure of listening to it LIVE.
What a great song and a great performance can't wait until i can see this band live again
Beautiful song, cant believe it was never released on an official album (except for Tracks)!
It just never fit in to any album. It's such a powerful stand alone song.
Love that song.....love Bruce

made me laugh! Thanks!

Written in 1976, and could have been the centerpiece of the album to follow Born To Run. Possibly his greatest unreleased song (until Tracks...)

@@CPSJSMSUUMUGA - 5 years later, but Ben was saying the centerpiece of the album to *follow* Born to Run

Excellent video. Hard to find a great live version of Frankie and it's not like the song is played a lot either.
What kind of terrorist could give this a thumbs down?
Vincent Gabriele allways the same idiot!
Just ignore! ;o)
those who don't appreciate very good music from a great Entertainer!!
must be a trump supporter!
About the only song i want to hear live

wonderful discarded gem! I wonder s a River outtake of this with Danny playing organ? I'd like to hear that!
Love the jam at the end starting at about 6:40

So many lighters being held aloft instead of phones. The way it should be.
