    Thank you for the video.
    I have a Yamaha A700 integrated that I bought in 1982, it is still going and still sounds good. Thinking of replacing it with one of these, as come on, the amp is almost 40 years old! The fact that my A700 is nearly 40 years old and can still work very well, crank cleanly to high volume levels powering a pair of large tower speakers is a testament to Yamaha build quality. This amp's layout is nearly identical to my old A700's, so it already seems like an old friend.

      Audition the new amp, and if it's not significantly better sounding than your 40 year old amp, then don't fix what ain't broke!
      Keep using it until it gives up the ghost.
      QC was better back then.
      My 2 cents.

      You mean Pre-Amps!! In general, an Amplifier can mean both pre-amp or integrated but if you want to be specific then it's either a pre-amp which does not have tone controls or an integrated which does have tone controls as you rightly observed.

    • @olaniyi570

      @@Stringbean421 Actually many pre-amps do have tone controls. It's poweramps that usually do not have tone controls.

      @@Stringbean421 - - the Yamaha in this video is an Integrated Amp meaning that the Pre-Amp section and Power-Amp section are integrated into one unit. Some Pre-Amp have Tone Controls and some don't, but that has nothing to do with whether they are Pre-Amps or not. As _JOSHUA ELEAZER_ mentioned, a Receiver is an Integrated Amp with a built-in Radio. It is an Integrated Amp that "receives".

    This is a class A/B amplifier. Read Amir's review of the device and you will be pleasantly surprised. The amp delivered 110 W into 8 Ohms, 180 Watts in a 4 Ohm load. The unit even remained stable against 2 Ohm loads!!! There are many €6000 amplifiers that require a clean pair of underwear if matched with speakers that dip to 3 Ohms... Dac and phono stage were mediocre though...

    That was an excellent video. I like the special graphics. You didn’t quite get the measure of how the loudness is implemented, and you didn’t tell me what chip the DAC uses, but those are my only complaints. I really appreciated that this video isn’t all “talking head” like most amateur reviews, and that you cracked right along and didn’t waste my time. Well done.

    Good, more accessible to the lay person. It is a long time since I bought some stuff and much has passed me by. I'm old, I'm a purist, old fashioned I suppose. Well the turntable made a comeback, did it ever leave? For me music is music and I want all components streamlined to that. I shall consider this product even though much of it I'd never use. The presentation of the video was good, to the point without blinding me with techno talk.

    • @zaoria123
      @zaoria123 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RainbowCharade Yes, there is. CD Direct Amp does what Pure Direct does (stops power supply to the unnecessary circuit for CD playback), but also converts the input signal to the normal phase and reverse phase, and balance transfer to the electronic volume. The manual claims this will result in improved signal to noise ratio (pure direct boasts this as well), external noise canceling and reduced distortion.

    Hi. At the back of this amp there is an Impedance selector with a guide. However if you want to connect only 2 speakers (8oms per speaker ) using port A, should you use LOW or set the switch to High? Thank you!

    • @martinalex0331
      @martinalex0331 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rossi Brother I have a pair of Chorus 714s speakers. At the back of each it is stated 90w / 8 Oms. With a 1 Positive connector and 1 Negative connector. I use one cable with x2 leads to connect +/- of the speaker to The A port on the Amp left channel +/- and another cable, identical to connect the other speaker to the right chanel of port A on the amp. The Impedance selector on the back of the amp says: when using port A or port B use LOW when speaker Impedance is 4 Oms or higher, use High when speaker Impedance is 6 Oms or higher. I do not use A+B port together nor B wiring that is why I am confused. And according Yamaha logic I should use High selector cos speakers are 8 Oms.. That is > 6 oms. I think I am just going to connect the pair in series.. That will definitely then be 16 Oms meaning HIGH position on Impedance switch.

      +Catalin NiculaeThe 801also has a double bottom design and weighs 2lbs. more. From Yamaha's website:"In order to effectively dampen the vibrations that have adverse effects on sound quality, the A-S801 chassis has a double bottom design with a 1 mm iron plate. In addition, the power transformer and heat sinks in the power amp section are supported by an extremely strong and stable ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough) base. A solid center bar further enhances high rigidity and dampens vibrations. These Yamaha design innovations contribute to superior signal to noise ratio with rich, natural sound reproduction"May be marketing hype--don't know. +Gehan01 Thanks for watching the review! Yeah, the RN-602 looks nice, and has the advantage of including a DAC that supports Direct Stream Digital (the format used on SACDs) and, of course, a tuner / USB input etc. In terms of the amplifier, I think the main difference is in the power rating: the A-S701 has 100W min power at 8 ohms with 0.019% distortion, and the RN-602 has 80W at 8 ohms with 0.04% distortion. So if you want to run it loud, then you're better off with the S701.

    Does anyone knows if the Yamaha A-S701 will work well with Polk Rti10 speakers (8 Ohms)? I don't listen to music loud or even close to be loud. My Harman Kardon HK 3490 died last week after 12 years and now I need a new receiver/amplifier. Would the Yamaha A-S501 be enough for my Polk?
    TIA.

      Actually Yamaha are very high value Amps and Receivers if you compare them to other products with similar specs. The Yamaha AS701 is $799 in the USA, but it has 100w/ch, MM Phono In, Sub-Out, and a high quality 24b/192k DAC. For $100 more ($899USA) the AS801 has a higher quality 32 bit 348k DAC which includes a USB-PC input. You will find few amps that meet those specs for the price of a Yamaha.

    • @HandyAndyTechTips
      @HandyAndyTechTips  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Catalin Niculae Well, after having a cursory glance at the spec sheet for the A-S1000, all I can really say is that it's far more expensive, has roughly the same amount of features, and rather similar power specs. And Yamaha's website actually lists it as discontinued (well, at least in Australia).

    • @HandyAndyTechTips
      @HandyAndyTechTips  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +anthony contreras Well, this is actually a stereo amp that is designed to amplify line-level sources (like a CD player). It's NOT A GOOD IDEA to plug in an electric guitar, because the output voltage of the pickups will be far too high and you'll blow something up. If you want a guitar amp, then I'd recommend something from Marshall (marshallamps.com/products/amplifiers/).

    How do i connect my Equalizer to this amplifier? Old once are better...

    • @cmkilcullen8176
      @cmkilcullen8176 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you want an equalizer that you can use in a line input, get yourself a Schitt Loki. If you need to distribute it among more than one component, get a splitter box. But you will not be able to use 1 loki for more than 1 component simultaneously. The only way to do that is to get 1 loki for each of your components.That would be purer, but that could get expensive. A splitter box would allow you to press a "channel" switch allocated for the turntable, cd player, tuner or whatever. I would get no more than a 4 channel splitter box. The Schitt loki goes for about 150. It performs well, very reasonable price. The boxes can be bought on amazon.

    The LOUDNESS Control is generally worthless unless they have improved it on the newer amps. The width of the cut is far too narrow.

    • @MrApplewine
      @MrApplewine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The higher end integrated amps don't even have loudness knob from a quick check. I wish they didn't include it because it just seems like a cheap gimmick in that case that clutters the front.

    My sister bought one of these because the store was suggested. This is not a great amplifier for classical music, at least for the configuration it has, Thorens TD160 + Sure 75ED + Atomh speakers sirocco 1.0 does not read the basses So I do not advise accompanying this amplifier, with 10% of the value was better figure one in 2nd hand with 20 years.
