Another great Video Alec. Your directions are clear and your camera work is excellent. Perhaps a video on how to shoot a Blacksmithing video or at least how you shoot your video's. Keep it up I'm learning a lot even new ways of doing things that I already know how to do. .
Hardy: search for: Hand forged V block for the anvil The fellow uses an 18-24 oz ball peen hammer, notice how much work he has to do to taper the shank. Consider then Alec's hammer choice, and technique .Also note that the anvil, as big as it is, bounces quite a bit. Another reason to make sure your striking surface in immovable! Lot of wasted energy there especially with a whippy light weight hammer.
This kid will have the world by the balls! He’s so talented not only with his blacksmith skills but if you watch the trauma videos later in his life the boy can act his name will be everywhere❤️🇺🇸
Great videos, love the details when describing the techniques. Knowing the angle to hit the thing and everything is really helpful. I've heard people make their own tongs, but I haven't seen any good videos around about how to do it. New video idea?
I went back through your vid's and got to this, is that the same hammer? And after watching your others, I truly realise how young, you are... Gratz Mate.... I wish I had got the bug when I was your age.. Bags from Australia
It's like watching you grow up right before my eyes. I see you were a lot calmer in your youth. Love the videos I'm learning a ton. Keep it up mate. Jon Bardal. Signyrosesteel
hello, you just worked the harmonic steel? you have tempered? whether before or after polishing? excuse the English, but I used a translator, I'm Italian and unfortunately here the English language is studied so much to say ...
Jacob Brown yes I personally do some don't if they intend on using them for hot work how ever I like a harder tool just be sure to keep it cool after each use also I only heat treat about the first inch or so of my punches and chisels hope that helps
Tool's used for Hot punching/cutting will not be hardened because the heat makes them soft again anyway. also it is a good idea to keep the punches cool with water/oil between hits to avoid deforming and binding.
You alec, What is that belt grinder because i really need at belt grinder. but i have no room in my shop for a big boy but one that goes on the wall would be perfect
Its a farrier style rounding hammer. It has a radius die and a flat die. Very universal and highly recommended. Watch Brian Brazeal's video on why a lot of smiths are using them everyday.
Really good video, good information in there. My only recommendation would be to have a lapel mic or something. I am a little deaf so I lost your dialogue in the noise of the machinery around you. Other than that good job.
Can yiu make a video a bit more improved with the knowledge you have now? As it stands I only find videos that teach you how to use those small center punches for jelery and such, but for blacksmithing which do you use for what occasion and should you harden it?
Just finished watching the axe build 5 i think.... 4... where you talk about how important a respirator is.... hahaha... don't touch the spinning thing
I miss the old videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Rewatching and the production has greatly improved.
He's come a long way.
Thank you very very very much! I really appreciate it!
I am from Norfolk in the UK!

Even in 2013 your videos are grat and helpful
Lots of Blacksmith and video Skills and great sound , I enjoy not hearing loud hammering over your instructions Sir thanks
Nicely done Alec. Perhaps you could demonstrate hardening and tempering if you have the time. Lesser experienced people would be interested I think.
keep it up so inspired by your youth and your enthusiasm. enjoy your summer at brian's

Nice job on the punches.
Watching this in 2017. You look so much older now and you've done a lot. You should be proud
This kid will have the world by the balls! He’s so talented not only with his blacksmith skills but if you watch the trauma videos later in his life the boy can act his name will be everywhere❤️🇺🇸
Even 5 years ago you had it. Great job Alec.
it's nice to see that you kept your passion for metal working and only got better great video
you should try damascus steel. That would be fun i think. Great Video!!!
Jim Barton I hope you're still watching Alec, as he seems to have taken this suggestion to heart.
Dang Alec was young when he made these instructional videos.
Woah,this is Alec? Long way
great vid Alec
Great videos, love the details when describing the techniques. Knowing the angle to hit the thing and everything is really helpful. I've heard people make their own tongs, but I haven't seen any good videos around about how to do it. New video idea?
Old but gold. Would you recommend hardening them? Or just use the springsteel as it is?
probaly hardening so they dont brake.
did you heat treat the punches?
I went back through your vid's and got to this, is that the same hammer? And after watching your others, I truly realise how young, you are...
Gratz Mate.... I wish I had got the bug when I was your age..
Bags from Australia
8 years later and over 2 million subs
Great videos Alec! Keep them coming! How would you heat treat these tools?
So smol
Well done! Clear and informative with great close-up shots.
It's like watching you grow up right before my eyes. I see you were a lot calmer in your youth.

You were so young! Still great to watch and learn

hello, you just worked the harmonic steel?
you have tempered?
whether before or after polishing?
excuse the English, but I used a translator, I'm Italian and unfortunately here the English language is studied so much to say ...
You may have answered this already....how do you take coil spring to flat? Love your channel. Keep up the good work!
heat it up and gently tap it flat on the horn of your anvil. what he did was just cut off the length he needed and then flattened it.
hey guy, do you harden your punches? if so just the tips or the whole thing?
Jacob Brown yes I personally do some don't if they intend on using them for hot work how ever I like a harder tool just be sure to keep it cool after each use also I only heat treat about the first inch or so of my punches and chisels hope that helps
Were you at the International Blacksmiths Festival?
Hey Alec so young. I have heaps of 4140. Is that good for hammers punches drifts fullers tongs. Cheers Adam
:D THANK YOU :D
Virgin Alec Steele
Excellent video mate! Your work is great. How'd you get involved in smithing at such a young age? I'm also a smith and I turn 18 in June.
Nice video Alec. Very good and detailed explanation. Very clean and efficient forging. Well done! =)
Do you harden the points with heat treatment, or just leave them "soft"? I'd like to see the hardening process if you do it.
Tool's used for Hot punching/cutting will not be hardened because the heat makes them soft again anyway. also it is a good idea to keep the punches cool with water/oil between hits to avoid deforming and binding.
THANK YOU :D
What kind of belt are you using to grind these? Aluminum oxide?
It is important to have proper tools nice work
Thank you very very very much :D
great vid cant wait till i start making tools
super great video. you are so young and so able, expert. Good explanation. good job.
You alec, What is that belt grinder because i really need at belt grinder. but i have no room in my shop for a big boy but one that goes on the wall would be perfect

Albert
Dang, those look like they were machined! Nice work!
what kind of hammer is that? it seems to have a nice spring and report to it.
Its a farrier style rounding hammer. It has a radius die and a flat die. Very universal and highly recommended. Watch Brian Brazeal's video on why a lot of smiths are using them everyday.
also, if I remember correctly, Alec is a student of Brian Brazeal.
This is so cool to watch and see how far you've come both In Your ability to blacksmith and make videos so glad you kept at it!!
Hey Alex great video! I was wondering if you could do a video showing how you use the square punch whether you slit it first or not. Thanks Josh
So this how the legend began
I dig the shirt! where can I get one?
Really good video, good information in there. My only recommendation would be to have a lapel mic or something. I am a little deaf so I lost your dialogue in the noise of the machinery around you. Other than that good job.

Quite nice for a start. But in comparison to his later vlogs it's awful because of the background noise. Could hardly understand a word. 😀
