I’m just starting to try to learn coding literally started yesterday. For me I’ve been trapped in a very low paying costumer service job for 12 years and I see programmers earning 2-4x more money and it might actually be interesting instead of soul sucking listening to people complain all day. I’ve always been interested in computers like building them and playing on them since I was little but I’ve never learned to program before so I hope I can do it.

Secondly, how long does it take to complete this specific specialization? If you dedicate around 4 hours per day maybe you could finish a course in 1 week. Specializations are several courses long so maybe you could finish a 6 o 8 courses long in 2 or 3 months... BUT WAIT!! The course that you are talking about "Python for Everybody Specialization" is from Charles Russell Severance, and this guy has a ton of free classes, he even has a webpage with I think all his clases from "coursera" so I recommend you to check that. The only thing is that in coursera there are exercises and tests that help you to consolidate some lessons. I hope this help you.

I have completed almost 75% of that course. I can safely say that I have learnt a lot from that course. One advice is, if you want to learn something in more detail, refer to other articles over the internet and make your fundamentals strong. That will help you in the long run for sure.
C and C++ are good for learning concepts but their learning curve is steep. You may enjoy it in the starting but as you progress you may find it difficult to write a complete program. This is my experience and may not be the same for you. I just shared how most beginners feel.

Why Software Engineering? I am surprised you never combined your education from Finance and your love for Python and landed a job in one of these other roles?

In your opinion, can a relative beginner skip learning lower-level languages, like C, and go right into Python?
Python would be the better to start with.

If your company uses Java, then learn Java and transition into a dev role. To start, you just need to start.
