    If you want to learn more about how GIMP works, I have a 60+ part video series where I explain all of the tools and features in GIMP and demonstrate how they work. Here's the link if interested: logosbynick.com/gimp/

      Hello . I want to ask something .. I have a text in bold font .. and there is a picture of camouflage pattern .. I want to fill this text with this camouflage pattern .. I could do this before .. when I drag the pattern over the text, the camouflage picture just filled the part of the text that I dragged onto the text .. (only inside the text) .. or the text is not necessary .. any other shape inside .. the outer part of the shape was not affected by this operation .. now i can't do it .. i forgot. . can you help me ? is it possible to make a video about it? my english is not perfect. I hope I could describe what I wanted to learn properly. Thank you from now. a picture of a shape on a transparent background .. and a pattern motif .. when I drag this picture over the shape .. it only fills the part that I drag into the shape. transparent background is not affected.

      @@KaanSynb I hope you figured this out by now but if not you need to open Gimp with Administrator Privileges and export your camo pattern to the patterns folder. Then it's simple: Create a New Layer with the Pattern > Create a Black Layer above the Pattern Layer > Select the Text Layer > Alpha to Selection > Clear > Select Black Layer > Clear > Select None!

    So I tried to impose my face on the center of my drone...it's pure white and I could not figure out how to get the face to blend naturally like with the orange. Is this because the orange and face have somewhat similar skin tones, and the white drone is too stark of a contrast to make work with this method? Great video, like all your others though! Usefully informative, not just quickly clicking around with no narration. Makes a big difference for the viewer, keep up the great work!

  • @supersaiyan7149
    @supersaiyan7149 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Tried this thing with trumps face and a banana. Didn´t work that well because the bananas color is less intese than the color of these oranges and also trumps skin tends to go more into a red colorscheme. So if you do this i would recommend choosing an object with a more intense color than the face´s color. But ay am not complaining, i mean it works brilliant.

    most of the things you do like layer mask don't work anymore in newest gimp 2.10 and idk what to do ,pls help

    • @waiitwhaat
      @waiitwhaat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Just add the alpha channel and use regular eraser tool to turn stuff into transparency. It works exactly the same way. While watching the video, the only place where I felt layer mask was really required was when he made the eyes and mouth to their original colour, but that could be done by adding a new layer and erasing everything except the eyes and the mouth. Results will be identical.

    Hey Nick, correct me if I'm wrong, but using a layer mask in this tutorial seems the most needlessly time-consuming and complicated method you could have possibly used. I can think of 2 easier and faster methods for getting the same effect, (1) just select that super soft brush on the eraser tool, you can literally just erase the image(exact same thing you did with the layer mask). (2) just roughly select the face with the lasso select tool or even the elipse select tool, then go to selection>invert then selection>feather>150+ then ctrl+x and done. Is there some benefit to using a layer mask that I'm not aware of? Also, no disrespect whatsoever, I love your videos and recently subscribed.

    • @jdwchallenges7641
      @jdwchallenges7641 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey this really helped and was loads quicker with a better effect

    • @thatpadraic
      @thatpadraic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the main benefit of a layer mask (doing 1 is exactly the same as painting on layer mask and you can also do 2 on the mask just as easily) is that it is a non destructive process. You aren't erasing the image, just masking some of it. It is easy to change your mind and unmask a part later. If you have to undo to get back to where you did it you may have to lose some other progress along the way. It takes one click to activate a mask and you can manipulate it with all the tools and effects as a normal image, it is powerful.

  • @rato5500
    @rato5500 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Nick! Everything works fine up until the point of the grain merge, multiply, normal mode steps. Then when I go to add layer mask on the top layer which is set to normal (black full transparency), it adds a layer mask, but the icon is not black as in your tutorial video, but rather checkered. What am I doing wrong? I can erase the orange colour from the eyeballs and make them white again, but then when I follow the next step and add a layer mask to the second layer and want to retouch the outline of the face on the orange it makes it pop out even more and it looks black. Is it the photo that I'm using? I've tried even the photo (screaming lady) that you are using in the tutorial and it does exactly the same thing. I'm really at my wits end. Using the newest version 2.10 ... Also was wondering how your interface is looking so much different than mine. You have twice as many tools in the tools panel which makes it easier to grab. I instead have to go every time to the tab at the top to select the needed tool. I know it's quite a lot of asking. Your loyal follower from Slovakia.
    Thanks a bunch!
    P.S. I've had success with the smoke and freeze effect, also the Abe Lincoln video.
