All it is to me is a semi American ghetto setting copy cat park but the court rarely gets used to the basket ball players I go to a skate park in Brooklyn Park Adelaide SA it's just two ramps and a basket ball court full of bark chips every where I usually clean up first when skating these Hood skate parks but they got games
It sucks but sometimes towns have to compromise on what space and funds they have available just to please the public and this could be one of those instances. I totally agree it should be installed individually but if there is no space available it's one of those work with what you got. Again we all have to agree atleast there IS a skatepark in that area, even if it's not the most practical.
Absolutely unsafe! And it's not just common sense. Especially given there is an Australian Standard that specifically talks about the separation of skateparks, playgrounds, sports, grounds, etc. Clause 6.1.1 AS EN 14974:2021 if Council would like to read it. It also mentions gaps, cracks and vertical stepping - which this park does not comply with either...
This would had been the perfect chance to put in an extra small (height) round flat bar. No where I’m Sydney is a curb high round flat bar. Most parks have knee high or above round rails that add another element to the learning process. More people could skate round rails if these existed.
Have you heard of anyone skating Tracker trucks? My buddy and I were talking about skating in the late 90’s and he mentioned loving Trackers. I looked and you can still get them. I’m far removed from the scene but wondered what your experience was.
That's definitly dangerous! We once had a skatepark with a Parcour course mixed. And i don't mean there was a course on the side of the skatepark. I mean the Parcour obstacles were all over the skatepark. It was a Disaster
Id be writing letters complaining if i lived their lol. My city is about to add a new bike park with multiple pump tracks and Im pretty stoked. I dont have anything to complain about yet which is good👍🏼
Where i grew up in the midwest usa they would do stuff like this all the time. Makes you wonder where all the money goes, because it certainly doesnt cost that much to do THAT!
Recently in Sydney more parents are letting their kids play in my local skate park in North Sydney. It's hard to say something but dangerous as if I slip out my board might hit a kid who isn't paying attention to anything. I have to constantly keep a look out for kids and it's hard to focus on skating.
Yeah dude, I’ve been seeing that more and more over the years too! I don’t think it will get any better either because all these parents look at skateparks as a playground 🙄
Next park review- “The council has added a 12ft deep pit full of cobras next to this A frame rail, really makes it sketchy for frontside tricks if you’re regular” 😂
Tell me about it! I was about ready to cut down the basketball hoop thats in my local.... which happens to also be RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO A BASKETBALL COURT!!!
I know of parks where I live that cater to multiple activities. None I know of have those activities in a way that they clash. If anything it would be people mad that they turned the basketball or tennis court, or hockey rink into a diy skatepark. I’d have to travel around 60 miles to get a 100% dedicated skatepark. I don’t skate that big anyway so it’s not worth the travel. I’m perfectly happy with curbs and parking blocks. Those are everywhere
Yeah dude, having them all seperate is definitely more enjoyable and safe for everyone! That’s true, sometimes that’s all you need for a fun session 👌🏽
Crazy “upgrade”, its a real shame because thats basically one of the only skateparks in what i call the skaters black hole in Sydney where there is really no parks.
this is funny to me cause i build diy spots on this basketball court all the time, usually off to the side but its still close enough. but this is ridiculous
Couldn’t agree more. It’s the culture thing that makes me laugh too.. “Oh it’s all urban street culture, so just put it all together for da kids”. 🤦♂️ Skateparks are for SKATING. It’s hard enough with 50 billion scooter kids not watching where there are going with parents who don’t teach them shit about looking before you roll.. Even CONVIC is doing this shit now. There is a new design they did for my little country home town of Walcha that looks AMAZING.. EXCEPT for the b ball hoop and wood chips. It’s a shame that the leaders of the field are bending to the whim of council and creating multi use facilities that make it less usable for everyone.. Lastly that park is a JOKE for 250k!! Those quarters are insanely tall.. my gawd..
Yeah I think that’s exactly what they were going for! I’m surprised they didn’t chuck a legal graph wall in too lol The wood chips get me every time too 😂 Yeah that’s true, maybe they have to go along with certain things that the council says has to be there 🤔
@@LeonPaxton Why would people (who's sole bread and butter is) building skateparks (designed by skaters) put a B ball hoop in the middle of a skatepark? It has to be council right? Grafitti wall line has me cracking up. The councils across NSW have a better understanding of the 5 pillars of hip hop than the rest of us.. Thank god! They be like "lets expand it to 7 and smash skating and basketball in there as well ey?" lol
I grew up skating parks with the courts on the out side. I never had the chance to work on my jump shots because of this. I like it. It’s different and will progress skating. The mixing of skateboarding and basket ball will do wonders in style and trick selection and pop. Probably develop a better sixth sense from all the chaos around. Make a more dodgy skater and a basket ball player with sixth sense and can zen out before he hoops a 3 pointer. You Australians are awesome!
Hey mate I hear ya but I think that any provision that gives us a place to skate ain’t bad. Yes I agree the b/ball court in the center is shit but I live in Thailand and I would love anything like that. I know it’s a matter of perspective and I love your work but remind your viewers how lucky you are to have a choice . Sorry I’m not trying to put you down I love your videos and thank you for them but life’s a bitch and we keep having to suck lemons especially back home in Australia
People with design degrees, paid by councils, that don't skateboard. Also shoving stuff into a postage stamp sized bit of land to appease rate payers, aka soccer mums.
NSW has some of the goofiest skatepark designs. I can't skate my local sometimes because families use it as a handball court.... When you head west it gets weirder and weirder, so much money wasted on parks and pump tracks that nobody uses for the intented purpose.
seems like its a crappy park anyway, so atleast people can use it as a basketball court. but then they will trip over the rail while playing... better off separating basketball and skatepark and putting some more effort into each design
Is this half court fine in the middle of the skatepark or is it super dangerous?
its full retard.. your definetlly not over reacting... the same people that come to skateparks and sit on the obstacles designed this for sure.
Stupid. Add some extra concrete just off to the side and place the court there. Win win. This is lose lose.

Just when i think Australian councils are on the right track with all these new parks, they come out with a basketball skatepark lol
Hahah yeah, every now and then they need to chuck a stinker in there 😂
Libertarians just won a major seat in sw sydney. They think education should be a paid privilege. They want ppl.dumb and willing.
its not really a new concept. still stupid but not a new thing.
Honestly who in the right mind thinks basketball courts should be in the middle of a skatepark 😂
Yeah I didn’t understand it either 😂
Government officials who line their pockets and can't relate to actual people 😂
That park looks awesome. You can even work on jump shots. That shits epic. Thanks for putting this up
Just get an ice rink in there too. Maybe a baseball diamond? And a swing set and maybe 4... no 5 traffic lights. And 2 Trampolines.
And a dog park.
Might as well 😂
Reminds me of St Matthews in Cromer.
True, I forgot about that one! At least that is more to the side of the park though but can still be annoying!
@LeonPaxton gumnuts are hazardous there, too.
That park is so bad!
@@TripppAU I agree. Weird layout.

Hey just wondering if you could do a crooked grind tutorial I’m really stuck them👍
Yeah dude, for sure!
Ledges or rails?
Probably ledges 👍thanks so much
When will you upload the Glenbrook skatepark vid?
I haven’t done one yet lol

@@LeonPaxtoncool. Maybe they are making a return. I saw Grind King has a gnarly new truck they are introducing.
It's the new sport - Bar Skate Ball! I wonder who's pockets that 250k ended up in though cos it wasn't spent on that park.
Hahaha most of it probably went to the demolition of the box 🤔

Maybe this genius way of thinking will catch on and before you know it there will be a miniature golf course on the track at Talladega.
Hahaha maybe 🤷🏽♂️
Id be writing letters complaining if i lived their lol. My city is about to add a new bike park with multiple pump tracks and Im pretty stoked. I dont have anything to complain about yet which is good👍🏼
Yeah if this was my local I’d either complain to council, rip the hoop out or start building DIY obstacles there 😂
Caroline springs skatepark has the same problem, with the added effect of gravel everywhere
The gravel and wood chips at parks makes it so much worse too lol
Where i grew up in the midwest usa they would do stuff like this all the time. Makes you wonder where all the money goes, because it certainly doesnt cost that much to do THAT!
Exactly!
Whats with skateparks and including half-basketball courts.

I both do basketfootball and skate ⚽️🛹🦔
Definitely a bad idea 😵💫
The thing with the basketball-court in the middle is unbelievable...🙈🙈🙈
Agreed!
That s a lose-lose situation if I ve ever seen one. That park is good for nobody if not only for the random dude occasionally playing ball.
It actually is 😂
That's my closest local skatepark, so no wonder why I'm always at Sydenham or Dulwich hill
Yeah I don’t blame you 😂

A council making a dumb decision - not new. It's the price for what was done I find surprising
Start a consulting company Leon!
Yeah that’s true lol
I would love to! Or work with some design companies 👌🏽
I think p.rod has a basketball hoop in his park, maybe someone did it before him too.

😂
Suprised, yet thankful that Josh Bell hasn't made a cameo yet
It's obviously designed by someone who probably never played sports in his/her life.
Someone who only played on a playground.
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking lol
Too dangerous. Give each sport its own space.

This is a comically bad design 😹 that road example is great. what were they thinking
Yeah dude, this is what me of the wildest designs I’ve seen 😂
It’s really a disservice to skaters and non-skaters.
So true! I can’t imagine a lot of ballers wanting to use this location either lol
councils generally care more about normie sports, which i suppose is understandable.
wtf
