    Great video and info. I have 9 in a 66 gal tank. So far so good. Just a little chasing going on. But no big fights yet. A question I do have when I see you tanks. Is what’s the brightness set at on your tanks? I have the Fluval 3.0 plant light on my 2 66gal tanks. Just curious on how you set up your lighting. Thanks

      Thank you! Right now I have my Fluval Sea Marine 3.0 set as this:
      Red 28
      Cyan 2
      Blue 0
      Purple 0
      White 8
      I don’t need to worry about keeping plants happy though

      @@CichlidCharmer I tried those light settings. I didn’t have the exact colours as you. But I was close. Seems pretty low. But I like it. I can see it being good for the fish. I also have no plants. But I do have a super red bushy nose pleco in with them. So some algae would be good. I have 9 Peacocks and I’m waiting on a Green Face to top it off at 10. Yes I like my fish and I treat them well. 👍

      @@brett_Thorpe that sounds great. So if I want it a little brighter or darker, I just adjust the white by a few percentage points. It doesn’t take much to make a difference

    Really good tips your the best! I use 2 wave makers. I also use something that I call cichlids sick bays. Although aesthetically unpleasing, it’s a suction cup attached to a 3 inch wide PVC pipe about 6 inch and use zip ties to secure it right at the water line During a chase, the fish being chased goes into it and can turn around but the other fish can’t follow. And won’t. I love it because it keeps my bottom free and nobody tries to claim it as territory because it’s not on the bottom and it’s for everybody to use when feeling vulnerable

    I stopped my malawi cichlid aggression by rehoming them.. all of them.. 4 years with them and it never failed someone had to own half the tank cuz he wanted to breed, even in an all male tank. I tried all the tips here, a lot of people think overstocking is the key. At one point I had 70 peacocks and haps in a 125, no luck.
    My mother has a 55gal with like 18 or so, and she doesn’t have this problem. Her trick?.. bad water quality lol. Her nitrates are high, and she feels that’s the key for her. I couldn’t get myself to let my tank go like that.
    I’ve pretty much had 1-4 frontosa in my set up at any given moment. I’ve replaced all my malawis with small baby frontosa and some petricolas. Will be interesting to see if I have the same issue with them as they get older.
    Sorry for wall of text! Beautiful tank 😅 cheers🍻

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel you. I thought everything was great, no aggression worth noting for a year. Then some guys matured and it all went to crap. Still trying things. As you know I don’t believe overstocking is the key. I kind of feel badly for them. They are stuffed in a small box with nowhere to swim off to when things get bad. Maybe owning African peas and haps isn’t such a nice thing to do. Maybe I will do a video on that idea and see what people have to say. Meanwhile I still have mine, but they drive me crazy 🤪

    • @robertjohnston25
      @robertjohnston25 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CichlidCharmer I’m not sure what the key is, but I couldn’t keep one fish from wanting to breed 350/365 days of the year so I’m trying a different route and appreciating those who manage to pull it off as I personally got sick of seeing it lol.

    I have 40 breeder, and want to keep chichlids. What do you suggest? What types of chichlids and how many?

    • @CichlidCharmer
      @CichlidCharmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! With that size you’re limited to the smaller ones. Fortunately there are some really cool small cichlids. Look up shell dwellers and apistos. She’ll dwellers are not so beautiful, but very interesting to watch and they breed like rabbits. The apistos are absolutely gorgeous! I don’t have any experience with them except what I’ve seen on TH-cam videos, so I couldn’t really say how many. I wouldn’t buy too many shell dwellers though. All you need is a male and female and you’ll have a full tank in no time

      @@anandkajave8643 some grow more quickly than others. I think my smaller ones took a little less than a year to max out size. I would suggest waiting until you actually have the larger tank, since things can happen and it might get delayed or not happen. Up to you of course
