NonyaBusiness! I'm brazilian and i've never studied italian, but to me is kinda easy to understand the words pronounced by an italian. Even when i don't understand what such words mean. For sure, is easier to us learning Italian, spanish or french. (french is more difficult).
by just traveling all the time and practicing all the time
I'm fluent in French (I learned it as a kid), and I started studying Spanish in early January. I already know enough to have a basic conversation, I can pronounce words properly, and I can read really easily. Since I already speak French, learning basic Spanish is easy. Spanish and Italian are more similar than French and Spanish, so it would be even easier for her since she speaks French, Spanish, and Portuguese and she was immersed in the language.
you can also notice that the italian gramar is quite similar to the french one, more than the spanish one. But italian vocabulary and prononciation are more close to spanish than to french. So with the knowledge of spanish and french you can easily reach a good level in Italian quickly.
I think she has learned for quite a while prior to that, you can read it on their website. It wasn't her first host family in Italy.

The Italian family were cogential, hospitable, immensely engaging, cultured, and open mined. The foods look delectable, quality, and fresh. I like how you immersed yourself in the Italian culture and learning the language. Phenomenal!
Howwww and whennn did you learn Italian??? Most channels like this on TH-cam show the journeys and in depth stuff about the languages they learn but suddenly I pop onto a video with Damon and Jo and I'm met with fluent Italian out of nowhere! So impressive

Damon and Jo, thank you so much for posting this video. Every time I watch you videos relating to language learning, they always stir up the passion for my French language learning. Jo, your Italian is better than my French and I have been learning French for 2 years. But I have not have the chance to immerse myself with a French host family. After watching your video, I am considering looking for a host french family too. Good luck, and please continue to make similar videos like this one.
Vivian Tran Same, except I'm studying Spanish! Right now, I'm finishing my Duolingo tree and translating articles as much as I can. I'm in nursing school, but I'm 24 and I've never left the US. I'm trying to figure out how I can enjoy traveling, language learning, and nursing.
comingalong slowly you could try after you're done with nursing working with Doctors Without Borders or the peace corps.
Something else that helps is reading, listening to music, and watching tv in the other language. It's not as good as being with a host family, but it still makes a huge difference. Also, try thinking in the other language when you get the chance. I learned French as a kid from my cousins and I went to a French school, but this is how I learned Spanish and I'm pretty good at it.

Learning Spanish and French changed my life. I'm so grateful for having had the opportunity when I watch videos like this because I can understand a huge amount, without ever having studied Italian. I think it will have to be my next linguistic conquest haha.
