  • In a flashback from Reacher season 2, an officer requests Neagley to leave the officer's bar and looks down on her, leaving one to wonder what went wrong. Reacher's first season mostly followed a linear plot, with few flashbacks to offer viewers an insight into the character's past and more emphasis on the present. But in order to show how the title character establishes the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit of the US Army in the past and how his previous military team is assisting him in solving a crime in the present, Reacher season 2 depends more on flashbacks as it jumps back and forth between timeframes.

Enlisted, particularly senior NCOs like Neagley, can be invited to the officer's club by an officer. Generally, enlisted guests are asked to wear civilian clothing to prevent any stupidity on the part of a drunken officer who thinks he is better than a Master Sergeant. A Master Sergeant is in pay grade E-8. There is only one enlisted grade higher, so she is quite senior. I was first invited to an officer's club by my lieutenant, who was a mustang (ex-enlisted, now an officer). I was a Marine Sergeant (E-5) at the time. I wore civvies as did my boss. No one fussed. I have also attended unit affairs in officer clubs while in uniform.

Thank you for this. Although sometimes these shows and movies have advisors who instruct them on how to proceed telling a story “properly”, they can ignore the advice in the interest of telling a story with some “flare”. I think this may be the case with the bar scene, because CLEARLY, she was invited, evidence by the fact that she was sitting with a table full of officers, and while their posture was indifferent towards each other, it wasn’t explicitly reclusive.

@@Kdotkon it served the purposes of the plot. Reacher knew that a bar fight was likely to happen. He used it as a bonding exercise for the members of new unit he'd just created. After the fight, they were acting like they'd known each other and been friends for years.

I was an officer for 16 years. Occasionally you'd get a brand new junior officer straight out of the Academy who tried to mess with experienced, senior enlisted folk like Neagley, but they usually learned quick. Although the NCOs and Officers didn't usually mix in their respective bars and there were respectful "ground rules", we had an officially-endorsed annual tradition of "Officers/Sergeants Drinks" just before Christmas. I remember arriving back to my room late at night from one of those with my uniform drenched from head to toe in beer. The stench the following morning was pretty bad. 🤣

Not very believable , major rank insignia on shoulder, large CID badge on shoulder mean MP , must be biggest idiot to pick a fight with a MP who is a major.

Neagley deserves respect. On and off the stage, if she does not get it, I will be very upset.

Also officers don't dress like that at all dont talk like that and definitely dont go around acting like sailors in bar full of marines. Also above all enlisted can go to officers club and have drinks and eat and mingle. Sadly about 10 years ago in the Army they started tearing down NCO clubs and most military bases why i have no idea.

The officers club did not have enough business to justify cost so they closed NCO clubs and now they are a joint club, Officer and NCO club for revenue depending on locations. They made a combined club, officer and NCO for revenue!

@@johnwhitehurst474 thank you for clearing that up. spend 26 years have fond memories in my NCO club all over the world ! including some scraps 😂., and wife beating me up for not being home. Beating me up with a pursed inside the club while mps were called and wife telling them I got this, putting me and my best friend inside the car while mps just stood there while watching. I still think they should have both NCO and officers club

A master sergeant is an e8 which is about a senior as one can get in the enlisted ranks. No officer with any experience would mess with a senior enlisted person. Senior enlisted have the ability to make an officers life extremely difficult. That was one of the few issues I've had with this particular episode. Otherwise, it was quite enjoyable.
