I'm guessing they probably already owned their houses outright, maybe they inherited them or something, and their pay is enough to pay utilities and property taxes. Legitimate fast food restaurants complying with existing labor and wage laws don't pay their employees enough to afford houses, so there's no way Mr. Krabs is paying more than the equivalent of that. Then I realize I'm obsessing over the living conditions and wages of fictional cartoon characters...

When I worked as a BT telephone operator I had to sign the Official Secrets Act. Whilst working with (not for) a major Silicon Valley behemoth I had to sign an NDA. I admitted to my line manager that the information we'd just seen was safe with me as I didn't understand a word of it. She giggled, said "me neither!" and snagged some more bottles of beer for us. That company runs on beer. 😁

Pretty obscure and non-harmful one- I signed one at the Hascon (Hasbro convention) paid event before the release of My Little Pony: The Movie. They showed us some exclusive footage from the movie (this was about a month before it came out) and had us put our phones in envelopes and sign the NDAs saying we wouldn’t talk about it or record it. We couldn’t talk about what we saw until a week before the movie’s release. As an MLP Superfan, it was soooo worth it.

Something a lot of people don't know:
You cannot use an NDA to cover up criminal activities. If your boss is doing something illegal and then tells you to shut up or he'll sue, you definitely can, and should, contact the authorities.
This, of course, depends on the country or state.
In mine, covering criminal activities due to an NDA can make you an accessory

It's been 1 year already, so I'll talk about AT&T. It was a horrible experience working there. No bathroom breaks, 30 min break and that was it, if you were late literally by a second, they would discount the entire hour off. When you call because your phone service was cut out (due to lack of payment), the agents, we didn't give a crap. We were miserable at that call center and we just want to squeeze every possible cent out of you (in the end, I mean, that is what you did owe anyways, so technically yes, you had to pay for us to reconnect it, but we could give generous payment arrangements), and we had full control about re-connecting your line or not, but we would give you a nice enough payment arrangement if you were nice to us, or made you pay the full amount or we wouldn't reconnect the line if you were mean. Also, when you request to be re connected to the manager, we would just put you on hold, took a little 3-5 minute break in front of the computer screens, then came back to you saying, sorry, the manager isn't available. Or we would just let enough time pass through and we would pickup in a slightly different tone of voice so you would recognize us as THE MANAGER, only to tell you the exact same thing we just did.

The dentist story reminded me of my own story. When I was a kid, the dentist used this very high pressure tool to clean my teeth or something. It shot air with a tremendous force and I was always uncomfortable. It was not the one they use to dry your teeth after they clean it, and rinse it. This was a big, really fancy looking tool, and I did not like it. One day, the dentist being careless as usual, missed my teeth and instead hit the tool into my cheek. Instant pain. Dentist brushed it off and continued with the cleaning. At the end, they noticed my cheek was swelling. They tried to hide it and brushed it off as if it was nothing. They even put down in my chart that I had an allergic reaction to the tool. When my mom finally saw my face, they were able to convince her it wasn't a big deal.
But long after I got home, my face continued to swell and get bigger and bigger. It went from my cheek, to my forehead, chin, jaw, neck, and ear. When I touched those areas, I could hear and feel a crinkling sound and was like pushing on bubble wrap and chip bags. I could feel like tiny pieces in there and could move them around. My mom got very concerned and took me to a doctor. The doctor confirmed that when the dentist hit my cheek with that tool, they shot so much air into my skin and into places where air should not be. What I was feeling and hearing was tiny air pockets trapped under my skin. He said it was very dangerous and could become deadly quickly and I need to stop pushing on those areas as it would make it worse. I can't remember what the treatment was, but I was able to get it all cleared up. I still unfortunately had to go to that dentist because my mom had no money to find another one. Thankfully, since they wrote down into my chart that I was "allergic" to the tool, they never used it again.

The federal courts in 2021 imposed severe limits on what can be NDAed. For example, no criminal conduct, no violations of anything under regulation by any state or the federal government. The NDA must cover a single, very specific topic. No blanket NDAs. They reiterated the Nixon era rule that government employees cannot sign NDAs and if they do they are invalid. (For example, I work part time for a city government and as part of our orientation we were told we could not sign NDAs on any other jobs we took while employed by the city) The NDA expires with your employment or if not with your employer after 3 years. If the NDA is with an employer and they violate the terms of employment in any way, the NDA is automatically void. For example, not paying vacation pay, heath benefits or wages automatically voids any NDA. They can try to threaten to take you to court and paying legal fees is great deterrent, but they lose if any of the conditions holds true.

I work in a very niche field and am still under my NDA/NC agreement, which is enforceable for 2 years afterward if I quit or am fired.
I can’t talk about or teach the proprietary processes we do or the devices we use to any other company in my field. This also makes lab staff where I work very desirable but also unhireable in the field because other companies are afraid of pissing off the “big dogs” in the business. I actually lost out on a great position with an amazing salary at another company because of this. I’m basically stuck where I am unless I quit and stay out of the business for 2 years. We all are.

Have brother who works in car repair and safety testing: most cars today are made of the same parts.
Routine for European and far eastern cars to share parts, with sometimes even the body parts the same.
Some are just re-badged and re-named, but near-identical. Laws in different countries, and lower safety standards will always result in a less safe car, even if it costs more to make that special version.
Also, cars are like ring-pull-cans today. Intended for a certain number of uses, too expensive to repair, usually impossible to recycle parts, as they are intended to break if removed.
