I was born just ten weeks before this disaster, and did research on it in college years ago. It's so sad, especially knowing that it was some stupid experimental test that never should have occurred.
The test should have been conducted before the reactor ever came online. It was not experimental but mandatory to ensure the reactor would be safe in the event of a power outage. It came out it wasn't, as we all know.
CThe Soviets were right with 2, at first, one guy was badly burned from the steam explosion 💥 and that khodemchuk guy was buried in rubble, never to be found
It's interesting the amount of propaganda in this news report I mean I live in the United States my fiance works with a girl that was born near the reactor it wasn't nearly as bad as they initially thought the perseverance that Unity show during the summer was amazing but I would prefer nuclear energy over fossil fuel any day

“1 in 10,000 years...” Well damn, those other 9,999 yrs went by pretty damn quickly, eh?
The year of Challenger, Chernobyl, my divorce, and the loss of my children. Good Times! HBO has a 5-part drama about Chernobyl on DVD.
I was a child, and Challenger and Chernobyl back to back was horrendous. I can’t imagine getting divorced, too.
I remember this just as it was yesterday. I had just turned 16 . This is sad still today
I was 14 and to this day I'm fascinated with this event and they way it was covered and reported.
18 it was a memorable event
I was 26. It was horrible. Bad year, guys.
I was 11 but I remember being glued to the TV
I was 11. Didn’t understand any of it. I do now
RIP
To the 30 Soviet operators and firemen who were killed in the Chernobyl disaster
Man, remember when the news was legit?? I'd forgotten.
"Their economy is not as fragile as we might think..." That didn't age well.
Why not?
Well they were talking specifically about their *agricultural* economy so they were right to say that.
"3.6 roentgens.
Not good and not terrible."
Lol at the "not great, not terrible" references.
Best reporting when you have Dan Rather giving the news. Horrible Soviet ineptitude and chronic lying.
Dan the man
it was only 3.6 roentgen i dont see the big deal i hear its the equivalent of a chest x ray
I like isotopes on my cereal.
Can you imagine if the news was like this today. You know were they Investigated and make a report vs saying the same thing has the last guy😅
CThe Soviets were right with 2, at first, one guy was badly burned from the steam explosion 💥 and that khodemchuk guy was buried in rubble, never to be found
At 0:00, loop this and listen carefully and you’ll hear “Mickey sung to me…. He was comin’ all right!”
Hahahaha
Long live Dan Rather.
Why was Dan let go from CBS again?
only if they knew
World history is wild
I was working on various US missile systems when this happened
So sad i cried and I cry for this accident
John Dunster made himself a fool
Buses and vans are being comedeared reason, to evacuate away from thee “DANGER ZONE”
