    Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida: A collection of 555 paintings (HD) *UPDATE
    (added over 400 new paintings than previous video)
    Description: "Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida began to study painting at the age of fifteen in his native Valencia, Spain. At the age of eighteen, he went to Madrid, where he copied Old Master paintings in the Museo del Prado. Four years later, Sorolla won a grant to study painting in Rome; there he developed a distinct ability for depicting the effects of light.
    When Sorolla returned to Madrid, his paintings were in great demand. The paintings he exhibited at the 1901 Exposition Universelle in Paris were very well received. Contributing to his international fame, the Hispanic Society of America commissioned him to paint decorative scenes for its library in New York City in 1911. J. Paul Getty purchased ten of Sorolla's Impressionist beach scenes at auction in 1933. He later explained, "One could hardly imagine greater contrasts than those between a Van Goyen and a Sorolla--but, as I say, I bought what I liked." Sorolla's widow left a large collection of his paintings to the people of Spain. The collection is now a museum, the Museo Sorolla, in the artist's house in Madrid."

      AND you need to see these in person. Live. THEN you can say you saw these wonderful works.

    It makes me sad to see such a world no longer present -
    it was such a beautiful age.

    Wonderful video slide show, simple economy of production, allied to an understated but pleasing piano soundtrack. This allows Sorrolla's sun soaked visceral paintings to be fully indulged.

    Anybody know who the boy with the big hat
    was who appears in 14:47 - he appears in so many of
    Sorolla's works that he must have been a regular model.
    His sister also appears fairly often. This would have been about 1900 or 1901
    in Vencia Spain.

    • @mikebauer4343
      @mikebauer4343 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      music is absolutely perfect. a slightly spanish and orientalist wave appreciating the images. compare this to the disco that most anyone else uses. it's a music which lets the music breathe. imagine, instead, the goyescas, how they'd compete with the images instead of accompanying them.
