Man, I swear 3D printers are actually more reliable and easier to troubleshoot than a regular printer, which is so backward.

It was true except that my Epson printer only jams if I used wrinkled paper. It became false once I switched over to the Epson eco tank printer.

Blue and red? That means there's no yellow. Yellow ink imprints faint security dots, so if you print money, FBI can track your exact printer.
prrr opop modern printers actually have decent enough print quality to fool most people, so if you get the base of the bill right, you may buy a thing or two before someone notices. Especially in countries with less sofisticated bills.
Besides, it's not just money. There's a ton of illegal stuff or stuff that can be used as an evidence against you that you can print.

Yeah, and don't forget the old DOS/Windows (3.x-9x) era, when the system would completely halt showing you a BSoD whenever the sheet of paper gets stuck or the printer was low on ink. That was trully bullshit!
I don't own a printer anymore. Whenever I need to print something, I carry the documents on my USB drive to the nearest copy center. I'd rather pay 5 cents per paper to them. Because for the price they charge you for the ink, you could buy a new printer!

Among the 20 released BS episodes, this is the one I feel that has the most legit complaining. I mean, just listen to that anger in James' voice, it's almost genuine.
Plus it helps that so many people of the world have this problem as well.
The only printers that work well are in library's.

2024, still an issue
Yesterday, 2 important pages to print... I have a printer since 2 years, no problem at all (incredible)... The same day inks merged themself I don't know how but they did, I wasted the full 3 color because I cant remove only 2 of them... Hopefully I had a "back up ink pack" in my desk... Then the paper was destroyed everytime for no reason, it couldn''t print... I removed the full "box" and kept only the important parts of the printer, fixed the problem and finally after all the bullsh*t the connexion between the computer and the printer failed !!! I used the CD to instal all drivers again, fail, fail , fail. All this sh*t the same day! I was MAD. I went to the print-store and it took me 1 hour of driving for 2 damn sheet of paper... damn!!! I hate printers!

Year 16 since this video uploaded, and printers have yet to fundamentally improve.
Dang I just finished watching AustinMcConnell’s video on why printers are terrible and than came across this. I can’t believe this video came out 14 years ago and printers still haven’t improved and it’s now 2023. Sad.
This holds up so well. The line delivery is just incredible.
God yeah. And the print options are a nightmare. You end up with a tiny version of what you saw fill a page on screen. What does it do with all that ink, too? What do they put in it that makes it so expensive, pure cocaine?! Nobody knows how to fix a printer that refuses to do what you ask it. IT experts just click around in hope, open the lid, scratch their ass. It mends itself when and if it chooses to, and whoever touched it last gets the credit for it.
10 and a half years later, this is still 100% accurate. We have failed as a species.

As someone who almost got into a fist fight with my own printer, i can confirm.
Not to mention ink is expensive as hell and i have to refill time after time instead of buying $30+ on ink.
At least you are able to refill, most places won't even let you do that.
That's why I'm using *only* LASER printers.

We got a laser back at my parents' place.
It's better in that it doesn't ask for ink every 5 microseconds, but it's worse in that it eats paper. Like, we got it 10 something years ago, and I don't think we EVER managed to print ANYTHING on that printer without SOME paper jamming issues.
Fun facts: printers were specifically designed as scams. The Ink costs a dollar to produce and it costs 60 dollars to buy.

Thank god there's Epson EcoTank printers, which you have to pay a bit more for the printer, but the ink is cheap, and doesn't use cartridges.on a good sale in 2020, you can get the printer for $200.

Actually, I got an Epson Workforce a few years back and other than one of the cartridges going bad and having to be replaced I haven't had any real issues. The ink seems to last, the printed pages are wonderful and it even had a scanner, photo copy function, etc...
I remember a time where I tried to print an essay for a class and my printer printed an entire TH-cam page instead. =="

I have had that exact same HP printer for almost ten years, and despite the fact that I hardly use it, whenever I do it still gives me grief! Not sure if it's that particular model, or if all Hewlett-Packard printers just suck the back teat.

I feel your pain as someone who had to print things out for college. Sometimes they wouldn't print the things I want or print them the way I wanted them to be printed. Sometimes they wouldn't print anything for me at all

I'm in IT and I can confirm printers are self-aware, when you call it a piece of shit - it remembers, and its petty. These things can hold a grudge, so handle with care.
In fainess, the office printer (which can be a photocpier also) has a screen which shows what to do during a paper jam.

For a video critiquing printers in 2008, this video has aged incredibly well. Printers are still BS to this very day, from the machine not printing when you want to print something, the ink still being wet when the paper comes out and so many more problems, too many to list here.
This video is just as relatable/relevant today as it was 16 years ago.

Damn this is too funny, I had the same model printer that you used in the video! Just like with you, it kept fucking up. My dad kept on trying to fix it while I wanted to get rid of the damn thing.
Last year I was at Office Max with my Mom, because we needed new supplies. I saw the fancy Epson EcoTank printer that takes bottles and not carts. I debated it, then thought back to this episode and bought it. One of the best decisions I made.
