An unfairly overlooked figure in British rock music of the 1960s, Graham's band had many influential
talents in his group yet he never got the big break himself. One of the very first UK musicians
to play the Hammond B3 organ, his live performances were legendary.
Unfortunately, he lost his way through mental illness and heroin addiction.
He committed suicide aged only 37, in May 1974.
Remember a gifted, tragic man this way.

I first saw GBO at Mirrless Blackstone social club. It started with Ginger Baker walks on and starts drumming. Then Jack Bruce came on and starts hitting the bass. Dick Henshall now walks on and joins in the sax. Finally Graham Bond himself comes on and plays Wade in the Water. The night was brilliant. So I saw 3 of Cream that night. Sadly it all came to a sad end.z

The first record Jack made after Cream split was Things We Like, a jazz record with McLaughlin and Heckstall-Smith, plus Jon Hiseman, drummer of Colosseum. Polydor freaked and made him release Songs for a Tailor first, and even then TWL was issued cut price with a horrible cover of Jack eating bangers and mash with his hands.

I really like this song. I'd heard the name of the group on a history of rock n roll program because two members of Cream were in it. I've never heard a song by them on the radio or ever seen one of their records. Even in a used and collectible records store. It sounds like they were virtually unknown in the US. The movie clip looks like something from Gilligan's Island.

When _Beware of Mr. Baker_ came out the whole _Gonks Go Beat_ was available on YT. This song had a really goofy but funny lead-in, but when it was over "Professor Beats" had a great assessment of his pupils and IIRC he didn't know what he was going to do with Ginger, who was basically hopeless. The 'F-that-C' look on Ginger's face was perfect. It also looked like Ginger had a groupie.
That last line got me thinking about a story in _Beware of Mr. Baker,_ the one that ended with "I'm in heaven!" What a life.
