    Invaluable. Acquiring this level of insight without this video would probably have required tens of uTube hours. A big thank you from those of us with limited time to spare.

    After 11 years of flying multirotors I just now ordered my first Pixhawk. Excited!

    Pretty impressive hardware indeed, Lee! Thanks for the review! 😃
    Some day I'm definitely going to try one of those!
    Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    Hi Lee, WOW ! That is awesome, I just don't know if I would ever build a new plane or quad that I would use this In. Thanks again for the video and information about the Pixhawk.

      Pixhawk is a high end, expensive piece of kit for serious modellers and professionals. But, you can still get the benefits of Ardupilot on non Pixhawk hardware flight controllers for a lot less.. RTF VTOLs in particular use Ardupilot but always on something else for cost reasons. See that Jumper Xiake800 for example.. Happy flying

      If you aren't carrying thousands of dollars of equipment and your drone isn't likely to make a significant dent in whatever it hits then this high end equipment isn't needed, but if you want to make a large scale model that can do significant damage crashing then it is worth using higher end FC

    Great video , even thought im far from building up a plane to support that type of Flycontroller i just enjoy learning from what's new and how you present it to us thanks for such a well explained video.

    It is a brilliant piece of kit but for me and most hobby fliers is just to expensive and not needed. To be fair it's a big difference between sub £100 for a complete flight controller gps, compass airspeed sensor etc etc than $600 plus. Stay safe Lee

      Definatley. Buy, as I said in the video, if you are about to add a £2,000 video camera to a drone it starts to make a lot more sense... Happy flying!

    Thx for this review, Pixhawk controllers are very nice👌
    Guess I'll have to sell my left kidney to buy one 🤣
    I could always ask 🎅...

    It could be interesting to do direct comparisons of real flight control performance between this and some of the less expensive options - with the same aircraft and similar conditions.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flight performance isn't that different, see my videos on various builds. Things change when you have to fly in less than ideal conditions where things like heaters, de-icing and multiple key flight sensors can keep you flying... Happy flying

    • @frankyflowers
      @frankyflowers ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe data from startrek could tell the difference

      If you are flying hardware worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars over other people's properties or critical infrastructure you want few more 0s in risk assessment. These higher end FC and sensors can keep a multirotor pinned in the sky or keep flying in case of a malfunction while being more reliable in the first place.

    Is there any good video transmission system that pix hawk support that is equivalent to DJI video transmission system? I use AMP board years ago and it was very barebone. DJI is a league above anything open source today, hopefully pixhawk can change that.

    • @Painless360

      Ardupilot support pretty much everything at this point. See my build with it using things like DJI HD and Walksnail HD systems..

    Hi!)
    Remark: I live in a region where GPS catches poorly due to bad weather! it's connected, but I wouldn't want to use it!
    Question: How can I take off without using GPS and radio control? I want to use only mavsdk_server + pycharm on my laptop

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't fly without both for safety. You can override the GPS checks but the. How would it position hold?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not used a Pixhawk style flight controller in an EDF. I don't see why it would not work but can't say I've done it here.. Best of luck

    A word of caution for those looking to buy one of these expensive FC's . Test it as soon as you get it . I have cube black I bought 2 years ago . Only now do I pull it out of box to flash ardupilot .
    Turns out there was a batch of these back in 2020 that had some sort of problem where they can't be flashed . Piece of $200 junk since I can't find out how to get around the problem . Just will not flash !

    Can you use 3DR telemetry radios on cheaper flight controllers? Without a separate telemetry radio can other flight controllers work with QGround control and Mission Planner?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and not easily...Happy flying

    • @vince086
      @vince086 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you don't want to use a separate telemetry radio, you could use something like Mavlink over crossfire. It works but is really really slow.

    • @pepermintpilot1694
      @pepermintpilot1694 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vince086 Crossfire is not the best option IMHO. I have tryed it and the link to mission planner is awfull. Again IMHO the RFD868 from RFDesign is a better option I have been using this for a few years and it's never failed me, unlike my flying skills which have failed me often🙂

      @@donmcbride1984 Almost any flight controller runing Ardupilot and Mission planner or Q ground control! Using one of the spare UART's. Works on Mateksys, Cube or Holybro FC's and many others. No need for a seperate telemetry radio. The RX from RF Design has up to 1W of output for two way com's to your GS / Laptop.

    What is the advantage compared to a black cube? I don't quite understand why increase electronic performance if the mechanical system is not able to realize this ?? In 100% of cases of falling or flight instability - this is a mechanical problem (overheating of the motor, breakdown of ESC, vibration). There was not a single case that the low performance of the flight controller would lead to a fall.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  ปีที่แล้ว

      The black cube hasnt been available for a few year Cube Orange is the equivalent now. See my Pixhawk 2020 series.. Happy flying
