I think spice fm is one of the few public spaces that the teacher and education is considered important
First, this country has amazingly brilliant individuals.
Listening to Patricia, I am convinced the introduction of CBC is actually the best move. We shall fix the teething problems as we move.
An enlightening conversation as OPPOSED to listening to the mumbling of Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u.
Totally agree - the CS was waffling.... too much talk!
Eric latiff gets it its not the curriculum it's the limited spaces which leads to atiff competition for high schools and also cut off points for higher education university and the fact thatvwe have never defined why we educate but what education does or is supposed to do...
Ms Kariuki talks of 20 pupils per class for CBC to be adequately delivered, yet we have 100 pupils per class with only one?We only need to improve on 8-4-4, which is expensive for a broke Kenya.
@@tonyanyumba8324 she is talking of ideal situation which is doesn't apply to us even in the US and UK teachers are quitting because of large class sizes and lack of support and lack of classroom materials from their federal governments so...
Great conversation indeed. I love how madam Kariuki articulates issues.... Teaching vs learning....
Great show indeed!! This is what we need. Dont give this platform to politicians. Great guests who did proper justice in articulating the subject mattet
one of the best interviews of 2023..on the issue of education kindly make them regular interviewees..
Thanks Eric, this was very informative
When I went to school, I did the 8:4:4 in 1990. 8:4:4 was great. Home science, music, art and craft, RE, GHC, SA, PE. etc etc. was great
Translate this to impact on the nation and growth of the economy. The only thing that is constant is change. Those speaking highly of 8.4.4 must substantiate this thing so great about it. How did it help the economy?
I can tell you one thing so disadvantageous about 8.4.4 is it was so poor at reintegrating those who fail. There are professions you can't do them just because you failed a certain subject in High School. Even if you do bridging, you will never be accepted in those courses.
Because you knew no better, you think 844 was greatest. 844 is the worst thing that happened to the nation, value of education, product s of cheating in exams, too many subjects focused on exams..
Go outside Kenya and then come and speak and this CBC isn't the thing you are being told about without laboratories and resources and fewere subjects I will direct you to read Range: why generalists triumph in a specialised world by David Epstein
@@rubysailor9186also we don't have a philosophy of education we have goals of education
844 is just hard work...i was happy when i switched...u kazana 844 and then end up working for those who did igcse because there parents owned the economy and got a leg up....
You go to the UK and US, and the majority of pupils in public schools end up working for the ones from private schools because they, too, are owners of capital. Its is not the curriculum but capitalism.
@@tonyanyumba8324 that is true, thats why they should make school easier, no need to try make us all einsteins..half that stuff we learn we don't even use...the smartest people are not always the political or business leaders of tomorrow...
❤❤❤❤❤❤ wow! As a teacher this is sooo relevant. An eye opener even for parents
CBC is capital intensive and won't work well in Kenya .
Ability to do not ability to know sttmt really enlightening.
Yes there are a number very succesful individuals who did not go through the formal education and went on to excel in certain pursuits and specific field. That is good, it speaks to the versatility of the formal education, not CBC,
844 works for the majority, not everybody, Those who do do pass, still had the opportunity to pursue other endeavours.
So CBC seeks to now suffocate the small minority of geniuses ( the so called performers who did not pass examinations, get As or go to university)
8-4-4 was intensive with too many test subjects initially, KCSE 10. Specialization is key in edu. Geeman edu system is one of the best. Links students to industry. And emphasize 3yr technical rather lots of univ edu theory. Time for stem is now. Robotics now China is most advanced.
What is lacking in Kenya is passing at every grade/class and intervention for failure. That must happen. U don't expect someone who's been failing at all classes to do magic at kcpe, KCSE.
International curriculum is just business
Allow me to disagree.
Absolutely . Esp CBC is of foreign interest and not Kenyan interest at heart. When are we going to do things for ourselves? Education should be for knowledge and not for producing workers.
Stem education system is th onlg truth
When you go abroad you will realize 8-4-4 is makes you a very competent person in the world .American System is a poor education and limited.
Yaani watu wa 8-4-4 wako na mvi kwa kidevu? 🤣🤣
