Thank you for these answers, it has helped me to better understand these verses that I have struggled with, thank you guys, keep up your great work for God.
Good discussion. This was all about loyalty to God in the context of coming persecution and trials for the church. God demands not all or cash, but ALL our heart, with NO duplicity. God knew this fledgling group must have pure and sold out follower. We must never declare we're all in... when we are not. Psalm 51:6
Also i donnot understand why you keep on talking about the amount of money!? The Bible says clearly God killed them because they lied to The Holy Spirit! So God didn´t see it as a little lie. Lies come from satan and so do greediness, idols, etc, etc. The Word says: I don´t want you to sit at the same table as the demons...it´s talking about idols and greediness, it´s demonic! That´s why they were judged so harshly, also to make the congregation fear God. It also was the first church and shouldn´t allow any sin to sneak in!
I've always struggled with this. My conclusion years ago, was that they were punished for lying to the Holy Spirit, in that they knew full well that Peter was Spirit filled, and they were supposed to be too. It's as if they thought they could lie to God. This has always given me pause when faced with the temptation to lie to another believer.
Lies to men are different compared to lies to God and the Holy Spirit. Rev. 21 mentions what happens to liars to God and the Holy Spirit. One can get forgiveness for his/her sin of lies by saying the Lord's prayer. This is the second death.” E.g. many persons including pastors claim God or the Holy Spirit speaks to them. If this is not the case they might be confined to the lake of fire for this lie. Please let your fellow pastors know about this in case they are making this fatal mistake. Faith till the end!

Great Podcast. I think they were Believers, but God saw they were being influenced by evil and would become cancerous to the Church. As you stated, the Lord had to make sure that a very high standard was set for the early church, so that all future churches would know that God is merciful, but He will still punish disobedience.
Holiness of the early church: The early church was characterized by a special purity and holiness. God wanted to preserve this purity and send a strong signal that hypocrisy and lies have no place in the church. Warning to others: The deaths of Ananias and Sapphira served as a warning to the entire church and beyond. Acts 5 :11 states, "And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon all who heard these things." God's justice: God is just and cannot tolerate sin. Ananias and Sapphira had sinned not only against the church but against God himself (Acts 5: 4). Role model: The early church was at the beginning of its mission. Such an event showed that God must be taken seriously and that honesty and integrity are central values of the Christian community.
This is the best explanation I have heard to explain God's actions against Annanias and Safira to date. Thank-you!Perhaps one could assume that after they were "laid to rest", such fear was put into the hearts of the rest of the church that nothing like that happened again for a very long time. But when it did, the foundation (load-bearing structure) of the church was by then already well laid, insomuch that any damage done afterwards would have at worst been "non-loadbearing." Therefore there has been no need for drastic divine intervention since. Would this be a fair assumption?
I agree, trying to look more than you are. But also I believe that they more than likely promised they will give a portion. Ecclesiastes 5:4-7 Says that it's better not to make a vow than to break it, and that God doesn't like fools. It also warns against letting your mouth lead you into sin. Make your yes be yes & no be no.
Sins against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven (Matt 12:31-32, Mark 3:29, Luke 12:10). There are 6 sins against the Holy Spirit (from 8/25/2023 message to Sister Beghe): 1. Despairing of God’s grace and the salvation of one’s soul 2. Pretending to save oneself without virtues or good works 3. Combating the known truths of the faith 4. Envying one’s neighbor’s virtue 5. @@dank2476 You believe the lies taught by some protestant pastors. Is it biblical? No! They use some verses and extend them on their own to justify their lies. St. Paul said in 1 Cor 9:27, "I chastise my body and bring it into subjection, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should become a reprobate." He himself was concerned about losing salvation. That's why he exhorted believers to work out salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:12). If anyone sins, he is a slave of sin (John 8:34). Whoever sins belongs to the devil (1 John 3:8). No one who is begotten by God commits sin (1 John 3:9). Why follow wolves in sheep's clothing and lose your eternal salvation? Come to Our Lord's Only Fold, His Only Church, before it is too late (John 10:16), so that you may hear His Voice, truly know and follow Him, and be saved by Him (John 10:27-28). Amen!
@@hyeminkwun9523 A good shepherd never loses his sheep. Some may stray (ie backslide) but never lost (ie fall away). Are you inferring that Christ is not a good shepherd?
@@dank2476 God created human beings free. Therefore if some among His believers leaves Him, He let them go. God does not compel anyone to be saved, and He leaves everyone free to choose Life or Death on their own free will (Sirach 15:17). Thus one who sins, he sins on his own free will and loses grace as a result. When Our Lord gave a discourse on the Bread from Heaven, many of His disciples said, "this is hard saying and who can accept it" and left Him (John 6:60, 66); and Our Lord let them go.
Havent heard your answer yet but looking forward to it. My initial thought: Parallel to the sons of Aaron and strange fire, it seems. Things are just getting started and God needs to make a point. Why now? Like Kevin said, Satan had entered the church.
I would advise strongly beginning this passage a few verses eairler to gain context. Start at Acts 4:32. Here we have creation of the Church, the bride of Christ, none were in need, and all had a close relationship with the Lord, it was a mirroring the garden of Eden before the fall. Then we read of the fall under this new convent , this time not Eve but a man “Ananias” who brought sin into it. Like Eve, Ananias also involved his partner Sapphira, this is an important link to Adam and Eve in that all of humanity have fallen again not just men or women. And just like Adam and Eve , Ananias and Sapphira’s bodies are removed from the Church and taken outside. Just like Adam and Eve, Ananias and Sapphira let Satan tempt them by seeking to elevate themselves and deceive or lying to God.
Another question is, why God does not do this today? There are a bunch of people doing this kind of thing but seem to be getting away with it. We all know that they will stand before God and give an account, but for now, they are doing well for themselves.
Who says that God is not doing it today, and God is just not reporting it to us? We reap what what sow later than we sow. Perhaps He is giving them time to repent. Also, I really do believe that judgement will soon begin in the house of the Lord. For instance, the Great Falling Away is a sifting of Church and is such a judgement. Self-examine yourself and pray for yourself, them, and me.
In this era, God is been too merciful. The reason I say that is because of TV preachers or evangelists' so-called prophets lying and stealing from the vulnerable. When I see their corruption I think about God's mercy and love for these charlatans trying to deceive the sheep with their selfishness. 🙏🙏🙏
I was thinking along the same lines but I also thought maybe we're being tested and God is allowing such things to reveal our hearts. Deuteronomy 12:1-3, I can't understand those that are following Benny Hinn and those like him.
Whom of us can question the LORDS portion of mercy for the times?? Are the false teachers any worse than the sins I commit? By Jesus' standards even entertaining wrong thoughts are sin... His ways are higher than ours, although I can see by scripture that some are doing wrong, and even when confronted still continue, sin hasn't been missed by God, and we will all one day give an account. I'm forgiven, and yet still thankful for Jesus's sacrifice that makes me clean...and His mercy and long suffering that has enabled the late comers to come to Him for salvation and the prodigals to be reconciled. What an awesome God we serve. Salvation by God's grace through faith in Christ alone!
I believe that even if you're in a false church, if your desire is to know the One true God, then He will bring you to the Truth of the Gospel, giving you the opportunity to respond and accept Christ. May be from some stranger on the street that shares Christ, or may be from a book he picks up. For some it can b a long road of looking in all the wrong places first. I think some people sit under false teachers because they like the lies. It feeds the flesh. Others maybe have not heard the truth yet?
I see God as having two choices in appointing leaders for us: He can give us the person we need, or He can give us the person we deserve. My opinion is we are getting the latter in many instances, which is not very merciful on the surface. It will be mercy for those who repent. There are a number of places in Scripture where Israel disobeys together, so much so, it is difficult to discern whether the people followed the leaders or the leaders followed the people.
This reminds me about Elijah who send down fire on the servants of the king and Elijah that pray for lions that destroy the children for mucking him . I think it’s about the use of power and authority
Too bad some man made the chapter division right there. Acts 4:32 to 5:11 is clearly meant to be one narative, discribing a certain aspect of church activity and then contrasting particular believers.
@@BrockJamesStory Thank you, I appreciate the clarification. They lied to the Spirit, an underestimation of His power, but not a slandering of His character like when people were saying Jesus was driving out demons by another demon. Maybe this is also blasphemy, but I want to find a confirmation first, since this was not named as blasphemy in the context.
@@deanfry879 true, and yes look into this. There is verses where simply sinning against God is blasphemy. And when Peter says “you lied to the Holy Spirit”
God picked two violent-past men to lead the Sinai Covenant (Moses) and the New Covenant (Peter). Moses murdered an Egyptian and Peter tried to crack the skull of a temple soldier at Gethsemane but the man moved four inches and only lost an ear for a few minutes. Moses was punished by being a shepherd of another man’s flock for decades. And Peter was punished with humiliation about denying Christ. After interior growth…BOTH MEN were required to verbally assist God in the death penalties of rebellious laity with a difference: Dathan and Abiram and families were horribly swallowed by the earth…..Ananias and Sapphira were decently buried…..
I think you guys missed the point slightly. Acts 4:32-33 reads: And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. They had all come together as one. They had all put 100% of their faith in what God was doing. Just like the older generation died in the Exodus for lack of faith so too Ananias and Sapphira had to die due to their lack of faith in God. There are many parallels to Exodus in the narrative.
The death of the older generation in the wilderness was a judgment for their lack of faith and obedience. This judgment was both a purification of the Israelite community and a means to prepare a new, more faithful generation to enter the Promised Land. The deaths of Ananias and Sapphira was a divine judgment meant to serve as a stern warning to the early Christian community about the seriousness of sin, particularly hypocrisy and dishonesty, but also sin in general. Their deaths resulted in great fear falling upon the entire church, showing the need for purity within the body of Christ. The early church was experiencing the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit, and the integrity of the community was crucial for the continuation of this divine presence. Ananias and Sapphira's sin threatened the sanctity of the church, and their judgment was necessary to preserve the community's holiness. The 40 years of wandering during the Exodus served to purify the Israelite community, ensuring that those who eventually entered the Promised Land were a people shaped by God's discipline and more committed to His covenant. By removing those who attempted to deceive, God was purifying the church, ensuring that it remained a community of truth and holiness. The early church, in its formative stage, needed to be strong in integrity and holiness to effectively spread the gospel. Anubis’s and Sapphira failed the purity test and were thus separated from the early church by death. We see this as an overreaching theme in scripture.
These two had a safety net in case God’s plan failed. That’s the only reason to keep something back. Their crime was lying to and doubting God. Hypocrisy is secondary to that.
Y’all better read, study, and very closely observe the HOLY BIBLE KJV (King James Version). Because God in The Old Testament did not F*** around. The New Testament God has mercy……. Until The Book of Revelation comes along. In Revelation is says ALL LIARS WILL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE OF FIRE AND BRIMSTONE. Man please have mercy on my soul God, you know my heart and what I am going through.
Google that “ALL LIARS WILL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE OF FIRE AND BRIMSTONE” scripture in Revelation. And man even with me saying that little prayer for myself In my main comment……. I still don’t feel like that is enough.
Why do you say it´s so difficult?? I don`t see it difficult at all. It says God killed them and some verses further down it says that the congregation feared greatly (because of it). If it wasn´t for the harsh judgement, then w h y did the congregation feared so greatly? When you twist the Word and then indirectly, tell People they do not understand the Bible by themselves but they need "men of God" like you, then you actually are false teachers! It says we must fill ourselves with the Word. But how dare you if you know you do not seem to understand the simpliest thing, which is to believe it is what it says? This reminds me of the word of faith! The Bible said one thing then they came and "explained" what it really meant, which was the opposit! Always confusing!
I agree with you ‘businessmogul4026’ because the apostles had a great amount of authority and power, and I think they even were given to judge in some cases.. it was a misuse of the power of God YET God granted this to Peter..
@@deanfry879 so when Elisha was upset with those young people who mocked him and they all were attacked by the ‘she bear’ as the Word says, do you think that was also an evil God? No, He gives His power to whom HE chooses, for His purposes ultimately, whether we understand it or not ! Check out OT verse 2 Kings 2:23-24 AND NT verse John 20:23 HIS CHOSEN, HIS POWER to give to whom He pleases. He is GOD and we are to learn obedience to Him through suffering. That is His way.
This is not difficult passage at all.. its only difficult to the carnally minded
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit
I Believe Peters Anger did...Lets watch tho
I agree with you ‘businessmogul4026’ because the apostles had a great amount of authority and power, and I think they even were given to judge in some cases.. it was a misuse of the power of God YET God granted this to Peter..
@@beloveddaughter717
What a precious name! 😊
God bless you sister!
How do you know Peter was angry, maybe he was sad. Did you somehow hear his tone of voice?
@@beloveddaughter717 You do realize you are saying God is evil, do you not? That God is the hypocrite for allowing His power to be misused?
@@deanfry879 so when Elisha was upset with those young people who mocked him and they all were attacked by the ‘she bear’ as the Word says, do you think that was also an evil God? No, He gives His power to whom HE chooses, for His purposes ultimately, whether we understand it or not !
Check out OT verse 2 Kings 2:23-24
AND
NT verse John 20:23
HIS CHOSEN, HIS POWER to give to whom He pleases. He is GOD and we are to learn obedience to Him through suffering. That is His way. Even if we don’t like it, He is God.
Well they are lied
