    In this most recent adventure, Brendan took on a 48 hour SURVIVAL challenge. The Idea - To purchase $100 of camping, fishing, and survival gear from Dollarama, and head into the bush for 48 hours to survive with No Food and No Water. He has to catch the food he gets to eat. This included Brook Trout and CREEK CHUB!
    Watch as Brendan buys his gear, makes a shelter, gathers water, and catches trout using a bushcraft rod and minimal gear. He didn't only survive, he thrived.

      I lucked out that this Dollarama had so much fishing gear! It was the first one I stopped at, but they can be hit and miss so I was lucky!

    Hard to believe that tiny stream is so loaded with trout ! I really enjoyed the video.

      If you put the time in they’re findable! And just fishing them slowly and simply works best

    You should never use river rocks as a fire pit they get water stuck in them over the years and can explode when high heats hit it

      I actually didn’t know that, but noted! Interesting and makes sense.

    Brendan you're doing better with that homemade rod than many guys do with a $100 rod from bass pro. Lots of good stuff from the dollar store. Hope they send you a gift card

    Cool video!
    I've eaten Creek chub as a kid before, but probably like 1/4lbers or so.
    I remember the meat as white and flaky.
    Not 100% sure I'd think the same anymore, but hey, when it's all you have...😂

    you could have sharpened the knife wit a river rock an sand, you did great job on the rod buddy. would have liked to see you use roots for cord instead of cable ties though, that would be cool.

      @@TheAverageJoesFishingShow somehow i think i could have dulled the knife more trying to sharpen it, lol, i have such a difficult time with the sharpening process no matter how many videos i watched, i know its easy to suggest things an doing them is another, i never did the root thing for cordage myself and i take way too much with me. i like your videos they inspire me ty/

    You could have passed on the reel too......as a kid all I ever used was a stick with 6 to 8 ft of line....caught tons of trout.....

    • @TheAverageJoesFishingShow
      @TheAverageJoesFishingShow  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I figured since it was a fishing video there was a good reason to get it, but next time I could definitely do without the reel!

      @@TheAverageJoesFishingShow I’m actually really impressed at what you pulled off, and especially with those chubs. They looked delicious all crisped up like that. Because they’re so plentiful I’ve been looking into potentially butterflying & skewering them then grilling them up unagi-style with that sweet japanese glaze just like bbq eel. Sushi rolls are actually a super easy camping meal believe it or not because most of the ingredients are dry and will last indefinitely in a barrel. If you know what you’re buying, asian grocery store survival can quickly turn to michelin star gourmet camping, especially when you throw angling into the mix.

    I really liked this video, thanks for posting. Top tier entertainment. Also a couple fishing ideas for next time. Maybe do bottle fishing? Or can fishing or some other hobo style fishing reel instead of a conventional reel? It’s harder to use and more rewarding. Jigs with grubs or live bait work well with that style, so do spoons. Inline spinners work well if you can get them moving fast enough. And I imagine trout magnets would be deadly. Those weren’t around when I was a kid bottle fishing in my local river though haha. And an idea for food would be fish soup? Indigenous people and early settlers where big on that as you keep more nutrients in the food. Just take the guts out of the fish and throw the rest in with some water, and maybe some seasoning? I think that would be a good idea as well.

    • @TheAverageJoesFishingShow
      @TheAverageJoesFishingShow  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those are all some great ideas! I definitely could do another video with even more minimal gear! I was thinking something like 5 or 10 pieces of gear only and limiting myself even more to see what’s possible!

    Make a overnight trip in a hanging platform, like a suspended pyramid, with an extension on it for rocks and dirt to have a fire suspended. Maybe over the water some how sonyou can fish and cook all from your platform

    fished that area for decades, lot's of nice fish in the creeks around Algonquin and south of 17. You will find the bigger ones usually in the ponds. My brother and myself used to trek back to find beaver ponds knowing that's where we'll find the larger trout. The Chub's, never ate them, always used them for Pike bait. lol

      This was 10 days ago. In lakes they will be deep, but if you’re fishing a natural trout area and you find any significant creeks coming in and out of the lake, they’re worth a try. It’s where the smaller fish hangout but fun to catch!

    Hey, love your channel guys ! I have been watching for some tips. I just got back from a three day trip. Canoe lake to burnt island to teepee. Only got small bass and small sort of a brown trout not a speck. It’s was raining on and off whole trip. I was thinking about Opeongo lake next time would you recommend? Thanks guys keep up the vids !

    • @TheAverageJoesFishingShow

      Those would have been Lake trout! The rain can sure put a damper on the enjoyment but at least you caught some! There’s some very good lakes surrounding Opeongo just a portage or two away!

    The survival fishing is great and the rod was epic but honestly I don't understand the appeal of buying all that cheap throw away gear when you know it's not good. Better to bring high quality gear and limit yourself to only the essentials I think.

    Dangerous taking wet rocks from river for your fire pit.....they can easily explode.
