Unfortunately none of the contemporary at the time, and still living abstract expressionist 9th street women were included at this opening. I’m glad they are finally getting their due.
I know this is from the archives so there will be no updates but this was mostly if not exclusively white women. While class was a barrier, there are plenty of wealthy women of color around the world (and in the US) who could have been included but due to their race because they weren’t considered women. People claim that being a woman was “simple” until they realized trans women exist (who’ve always existed but under different names) fail to recognize that who counts as a woman has always been very narrow and ever shifting. This is just a single example in a a handful of mediums. What was considered art is also limited because of the lack of textiles, and other mediums not present.
One thing wonderful about the collections that Wallace Holladay and Wilhelmina Cole Holladay collected is that from the start, color was not a barrier. Take for example the piece from Elizabeth Catlett. The goal was all women's art.
Stunning footage! Thank you!
I'm SO glad I was born in modern day.
We have SO much work to do to honor ALL women's in history in ALL areas.
Women Power
Thank you!

And, they sent a male reporter to cover this. Hopefully the museum is now more inclusive in the artists and subjects displayed.
Thanks 👏🏼👏🏼🍁🍂🎃🍂🍁
