    Too technical for me but from my lifetime in teaching I can say , as a lesson on the subject, it was really sound in structure and delivery. The playing bits were really cool as well!! 10 out of ten all round

    Great Guitar playing Thomas! I have a GT pro which I bought as "Wend of line" all those years ago! I bought it to replace the GP8.. never did! The Gp8 is still in the rack: Gt Pro just sits atop an amp. I still haven't got around to looking at it properly..
    You've inspired me to give it another look, so thank you.

      Thanks for watching!! I’ve been using the GT-Pro for everything until replacing it with a Helix rack a month or two ago. That’s in large part what prompted the making of this video. Even for acoustic playing the GT-Pro has been useful because you can completely bypass the amp section and simply add a touch of Reverb, EQ or compression. Hopefully you can still get some use out of it too!

      Interesting because the GT-Pro was essentially the GT-8 in rack form.

      Good work! Maybe you could do a video on how you go about creating tones for it… apparently a good number of players still own and use the GT Pro, so I think it could be a worthwhile video to make. There’s loads of content available for Helix etc. on how to make patches, but not that much for older units. Thanks for watching anyway! 🎸🙏

    I picked up one of these just recently. I love it. All the effects are first class. But I don't use the speaker sims - I go into a power amp (Marshall 9100) then a 4x12 cab with greenbacks, which of course hones the tone nicely. I do use the amp sims /distortions, but not necessarily to be what they are, just as starting points for sounds that I want to create. Takes quite a bit of tweaking what with amp tone controls, eq section etc etc, but it's a very powerful and competent unit as long as you don't expect exact sounds straight out of the box.

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, The effects are excellent! I love the JC clean amp sim which sounds fantastic too, this is not surprising really as that is a Roland (Boss) made amp. The rest of the amp sims are all fine, but I think this area is where the more modern units have improved a fair bit. I got a Helix rack a couple of months ago and have been using that recently. I intended to sell my GT-Pro but haven’t been able to bring myself too! For a lot of the modulated effects I still prefer it 🤣 This maybe is just an ease of use thing though, after using the GT-Pro for the last 17 years I know how to get what I like out of it! My conclusion is it’s still a more than capable and great sounding piece of kit, and It’s nice to know others are still using and getting good results from it - so thanks for the comment and watching the vid 👍

    I still have and use Line 6 Pod 2.0 and Pod XT &HD. Also a couple Peavey ProFex II and Lexicon MPX 1. Besides guitar I play pedal steel and the rack units are easier to use without stomping pedals.

    It's an interesting subject that I have pondered many times myself. I use a GT Pro live and have done for the last 10 years. I look quite a lot at what's out there and of the high end stuff, I'm really not hearing enough improvement in products over 17 years to find myself wanting to part with money to upgrade. The biggest issue I have that you mentioned is the driver updates which mean I haven't been able to use the connection to my PC for ages.

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s annoying that the drivers haven’t been updated, but I guess it’s in the manufacturer’s interest not to after a while… it becomes more of an incentive for people to buy a newer unit.
      I hooked my GT-Pro up with an old laptop (running Windows 7) a few months ago and was using the editor software via USB. It’s actually still available to download on the Roland website and is a really good application! I always found it easier to edit on than going into the settings on the unit itself. Unfortunately the laptop then stopped working though! For recording I just got a basic Presonus audio interface and plugged the GT-Pro in to that - it works great 👍
      Thanks for watching!

      I used a GT-Pro rack for about 8 years live and studio. It was GREAT with the fx loop for my fav dirt pedals. I now have an Axe II and, I must tell you, I am GLAD to have made that jump in '17 as the AxeFx amp models blow this away. BUT, the delays, reverbs and modulations in the GT pro were GREAT. The MOST impressive thing I found on the GT-Pro was the intelligent and programmable harmonizer. OMG I got a TON of mileage out of that. I have yet to come across ANYTHING that functions as well as that which, in and of itself, was worth the price of admission IMO.

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, I’ve had the same experience, only I’m using a Helix rack now rather than AxeFx. The modeling and options around it (cabs, mics, using IRs etc) is far better - but the modulated effects in the GT-Pro are still as good to my ears. This makes sense as I’m not sure how much better a chorus or delay pedal has really got in the last 20 years… As guitarists we tend to like things that were made decades ago as well 😂. The general feeling I get is that Boss do modulation and synth based stuff really well, but are not as good or maybe prevalent as the Line 6, Fractal, Kemper, Neural now on the modeling side. A lot of this boils down to personal opinion though as well!

    Wondering if it has that little microphonic warbling after you launch a open false harmonic ? I would get that effect off if the line 6 and boss equipment on the hi gain it’s been semi resolved but there’s a slight dose on my boss artist katana also but is there Im thinking that say the kead or brown is about equal to that of gt pro but with the ability to really run a metal zone or ratt on top that is a copy righted version of pedal and being a wannabe version that this has the artist getting the edge and those others you mentioned I’ve not seen anyone get the nasty results I’ve designed and my 6 sounds like it could be detuned but it’s next level pantera sound that dime didn’t get to play with but if you have the 👂 ear this amp is a blo torch literally

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, from what I’ve seen the general consensus is Boss gear is not as popular or the first choice for players into really heavy styles. That said, someone pointed out in a previous comment the GT-Pro is Mick Thompson’s unit of choice, so like a lot of things, it’s probably mostly a matter of personal preference more than anything.

      @@TRGuitar well I don’t have that opinion because I’m actually crafting my channels from scratch. Example some people think the preset is their best friend and I’ve seen this in my best friend he has a technical level from playing so many years but can’t take raw ingredients and bake the cake 🎂 all of his sounds are the preset stuff that’s it’s sold with and most sound weak especially the lead channel stuff here’s the rub they will say oh well that’s hot enough what are you planning on doing an act stupid like it’s really hot most of time its like this hardly has enough for my rhythm channel and don’t get you have to push that channel more to get your harmonics popping out correctly and this can be achieved a few different ways but say like boss we would pair that with 1 of their copy righted pedals that are in their but you have to get your cpu out and pick it out and adjust it just like a real pedal then you have a blo torch

      Nice! That seems like a good price from what I’ve seen them selling for recently. I replaced the internal battery a while back. The display had faded at first and I didn’t even realise that’s what it was before researching it. As I recall, getting the back off the unit was easy enough but getting the little 3v battery out of the compartment inside was quite tricky! Once replaced it was fully back to life though 👍

      Ah no, what a chore! Well done for fixing it though. I’d read on a forum somewhere it was faff, so was prepared for the task… still, had to try various different tools before eventually getting it out 🤣

      @@TRGuitar I had to look up the definition of faff! Yeah it definitely is.
      I will say though, for your future reference, if you ever had to do the same thing, the most minimally invasive route was to remove all fasteners so you're able to flip the top and bottom PCBs around, and you'll have plenty of room to work and make any repairs. In other words, no ribbon wiring harnesses need to be (or should) be disconnected.

    I recently bought one of these and plan on using it with a digitech 2101 and an 11 Rack.
    I do hear some of the "fizz" even in this video. So I'll probably make a radtone harmonic coverger for it.
    My questing is, did you use the pc software and if so what operating system did you use?

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like an interesting set up! I’m not really familiar with the other units you’ve mentioned tbh, although have used various Digitech pedals in the past.
      As for the software, I recently had it installed on an old laptop via Windows 7 and it was running fine. I also tried to get it installed on a Mac with the most up to date OS system, but unfortunately couldn’t get that to work. It seems Boss stopped updating the drivers a few years ago. I understand why, because they want you to buy their most recent products, but it’s infuriating that the software is still available and free to download but won’t work unless you’re using an old otherwise redundant OS.
      There may be another way to get it working on a modern OS, via a virtual machine for example, but I gave up before exploring further options. There is a FB group dedicated to all things GT-Pro so it might be worth enquiring there... I don’t usually use FB but it was helpful when I needed some info on how to change the internal battery in the unit.

    I'm trying to use de balanced out in my Audio device but they don't produce any out signal.
    So i've tried to use the usb but i don't know if is compatible with Windows 11, on boss page there's all compatibility of their product except of the gt pro!
    When i try to install the GT pro drivers it stops to the "Connect usb" windows and it doesn't let me finish the installation.
    I need to use it to record on my new generation PC i don't mind the editor i need to see it as an audio device or using the rec out un my external audio device but the unbalanced mono out sound bad (in respect of what i ear from the phones out of the GT PRO) and the balance out (canon) doesent send any signal to my audio device!!!

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, Thanks for posting! I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your GT-Pro unit. Please note I am not affiliated with Boss, technically qualified or in a position to provide effective troubleshooting here. The following is therefore just my thoughts regarding what you have mentioned, so please take it more as conjecture than fact!..
      What you describe seems odd because the dedicated 'sub' XLR outputs on the back are specifically designed to give a balanced output to various external hardware devices (mixer, interface etc.). They have indeed worked fine for me as such in the past. I did double check this on the Boss website to clarify and see if there were any stated application issues, but there are non that it mentions. In fact, it states that with the ground lift switch in operation, this should give you an "incredibly pure signal path", as it is designed precisely to keep the signal as clean as possible.
      You can see all this info here:
      www.boss.info/us/products/gt-pro/
      The problem you mention wasn't a consideration for me, however, as I recorded everything in this video by simply using the main mono output and the DI output from the GT-Pro. As you know, these are unbalanced 1/4-inch audio outputs, but have always worked fine straight into the interface for me. I certainly have never noticed a deterioration in the sound compared to when I've used it plugged straight into a speaker cabinet say, or when using the digital output straight into my studio monitors. That said, I don't have a big studio set up here with lots of other gear and potential interference lying around, so maybe this is why. This still doesn't have anything to do with why you would be receiving no/low signal at all into your audio device though! Honestly, beyond there being a fault with the unit itself, I can't think why that might be the case.
      With regards to the driver compatibility, I do mention this as a potential sticking point in the video. I read on a forum somewhere that it may be possible to get a more modern operating systems to recognise the unit, but I was unable to do so on my current M2 Mac (running Ventura). I did have a laptop running Windows 7 (which the drivers are still available to download online) and I had the GT-Pro working fine on that and was even running the tone editor software without and problems up until a couple of months ago. There may be a way you could install an older virtual / legacy OS to get it running with the old drivers via USB. I am certainly no expert in this area though, and before reaching that point, I would say it is probably not worth the hassle and it would be better simply using a more modern modeller / unit for recording purposes. As I suggest in the video, I think at this point in time the GT-Pro (being a 17-year old unit) is more applicable for someone dabbling in home recording regardless, rather than for pro studio use.
      Sorry I can't be of more help, I appreciate the frustration involved when gear isn't working properly, I've certainly been through my fair share of it in the past!

      I'm now using the mono out and It work properly but being mono the beauty of the stereo fx line pin pong delay Is sounding as a normal delay.

      @TRGuitar  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UmbertoRonco Np, thank you! Yes much better in stereo if you can get it working that way. Another thought that just occurred is to maybe use a mixer between the Sub out on the Gt-Pro and the audio interface, to boost the signal? Not sure that would work (or even be practical for you) but might help if at all feasible...
      Anyway, sounds like you've got it working to some extent now at least, if not 100% optimally yet.

    Would you be able to share the presets you've made for the GT-Pro?

    • @TRGuitar
      @TRGuitar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I didn’t actually make any, everything used in the video is all factory presets! If you look at the GT-PRO unit interface on each section, it shows which preset is being used at the time. I did add a bit of post EQ and compression on the two performance piece sections, but again they were just factory presets being used. For the main sound demo section it was everything from the first bank. For the manual mode section I just had it on the ‘JC Clean’ amp model then went through the effects. Hope this helps!
