Hey Thank You for this insight on Dry Suits. As I am not familiar with them. You answered the few questions I had about them. I now see them as an important piece of gear, especially in colder seasons when getting wet is a very bad idea. Keep up the videos I truly enjoy your content.

Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I appreciate you explaining the differences between full and semi-drysuits. I have been looking at replacing my 3 mm wetsuit with a dry suit for comfort and safety during shoulder season paddling.
You're welcome! Ha, wetsuit certainly have their purpose (and value) but those that frequent cold water will quickly appreciate a drysuit over a wetsuit. The biggest factor is costs, but once you have it, you wonder how you did without it! 😄 Enjoy!

Hi David. I tried a drysuit on my last run. It's quite a bit taller than I am. I didn't swim during the run but took a dip after cause it was hot (the water was cold) and founf that the water pushing up against the material made it feel like I was wearing a cast and I couldn't really move my legs at all. I was very surprised and now I am very leery about using it...
So Funny, was going to ask you about this very thing! Thanks for the vid David....found if very informative! Going on a trip in June....the ice is going just getting off and I have to do some wading up rapids.

I'd love to see another video about these, maybe you could talk about how they feel once the weather gets a bit warmer, are they breathable at all? Would you bring one as rain protection? I'd be interested to hear about some costs and other comparable models you'd recommend. Just food for thought should you choose to make a second video. I loved this man, so very helpful. Hi Dave, they are pretty good, but if you are planning to line a lot, especially on sharp rocks, where you may need ankle support, I would advise the boot/sock combination. Mind you, I have walked/lined/dragged quite a distance with these neoprene boots and managed fine, but I don't have ankle issues and I'm fairly nimble in water with rocks, so it does work for me. But they don't offer the same protection. Hope this helps!
I’m guessing the feet part of the suit is neoprene as well, hopefully very stretchy for a snug fit. But how long can you were it on average until your wet simply from your body’s moisture? Thanks David🤘
Actually no, they are Goretex socks. You can get damp umder extreme conditions (super hot, high extertion) but that is kinda rare. On this trip I was almost dry the whole time except when I had to portage, but even that wasn't bad. (Due to the fact it is all Goretex)

I'm hoping combined with a lifejacket if I got the neoprene neck, that I should be able to stay relatively dry if the worst happened. My biggest fear would be if the dry suit filled with water from the neoprene neck, but I imagine that would take some time of being submerged and at that point I probably would have ran out of oxygen and have bigger problems. It sounded like your feet stay dry in the suit, it was a bit confusing when you said still got wet feet when water went over the boots. Any further clarification there?
Anytime Nathan! That's great re: getting a drysuit. Sure I can clarify. First off, when you dump in a canoe, your natural reaction is to keep your head up, so in most cases your head will only be in the water for a very short time. (Often times, people's head stays above the water entirely when they roll!) So even with a neoprene neck there will be very little entry of water, if any. (Remember, my suit also has a shock cord that you can cinch down snuggly to lessen the chance even more.) Only time it will be of concern, (of filling with water) is if you are stuck underwater for a sustained period of time, of which as you alluded, would be a bigger problem for another reason other than the entry of water. But yes, the entry of water through the neoprene neck can be an additional concern if you feel the outings you take and the conditions you will encounter may involve more risks of getting stuck underwater. (Just note, the water doesn't rush in through the neck, it would leak in based on your movement and actions.) Hope this helps. As to my feet, sorry it was a bit confusing. I meant the outside of the drysuit sock and the inside of the boot would be wet, but not your feet inside the suit. That should clarify your question. How are the neoprene boots for walking on wet rocks and boulders when lining a canoe? Would you recommend them over neoprene socks and hiking boots?
