This is one of the most romantic narratives I have seen in year. It achieves in its few short minutes more than most feature films. To me, the video is about a man who is tired, somewhat cynical, but who has not given up all hope. That hope is represented by the act of reclining and surrendering to the blade. He could be hurt, but instead is rewarded by something magical. A small miracle. I cant stop watching.
I met Matt is Seattle years ago and he is an absolutely beautiful person. An incredibly multi-talented guy who can sing Classical, Pop, Country, whatever, AND is also an amazing line dancer, to boot. Congrats on the success, Matt -- you so very much deserve it.
...all of these years later and I'm still floored by this song. Hide Nothing is my all-time favorite album. I never tired of it... Matt, I hope you know this - you are special. You were a gift to me at the time I rediscovered love; a gift when that love passed away; (shortly after he passed, I saw you sing our song Tightrope live in Fort Lauderdale and I lost it. After the show, you came over and gave me a hug - never forgot that); and, you are a gift now. Thank you, thank you. A thousand times, thank you.
I remember the first time i heard this song.. it was truly something beautiful. I shed tears because i knew this was someting i would never forget. and the love the two shared broke my heart. I sat my boyfriend down and had hime give this a listen and to no surprise he loved it. This is a haunting melody that you can't seem to let yourself get over. But why would you want to? I often see Matt makes comments to the fans. It would really mean the world to hear from you.
It's 103 degrees, here in Melbourne (Aus), so we closed the office and I came home to get some work done...little did I know that it would be raining, all afternoon, here in my apartment, as I play this over and over...longing for the love I had to leave behind, in New York, and embracing the hope that this music offers for the future of this love...
I've never been moved to write anything on TH-cam but I've just watched this five times along with the other Matt Alber links. Mr Alber, you've brightened my day. Everything you sing is marvelous.
One of the colorguards in Texas did this for their winterguard show, it made my whole guard cry. They played it so perfectly, Matt is amazing for singing. He's just terrific :)
I can't stop watching this video and above all listen to this wonderfull song...What a beautiful voice with this beautiful man !!! Thank you very much..........
I cried the first time I listened to this song...it still gets me every time I play it. What an amazing song! I can totally relate to it. Thank you so much, Matt. You're wonderful.
Matt, The universality of the message is just stunning in its simplicity. Love is love. The video is just beautiful... My godfather had a barbershop just like that one when I was a kid. This video brought me right back there. I can still smell it... Thank you so much, George
Seldom do we get to watch as history is being made...but this video is just that, history. The combination of song, video, and artist is stunning....I just can't believe it. It's so rare that all of these factors line up so perfectly in one piece of work.....great job Matt. Keep them coming.
The music is so poignant, when combined with the evocative imagery it becomes simply sublime. Thank you Matt for this brilliant piece. I was so moved that I immediately went to purchase the video off of iTunes after viewing it here.
To me this is not a gay song, its message is universal. Love knows not, sex, color or national origin, it just knows the heart. This song comes from an amazing, talented songwriter who apparently has an amazing heart. My only wish is that people would request songs like this from mainstream commercial radio. Songs like this need to heard by everyone!
I heard Matt earlier tonight in Des Moines, Iowa... I am still crying inside. Across the footlights... Matt Alber touches me in ways I never thought a singer would.
After listening to Matt explain the rational for the song, the video makes perfect sense. "Everyone deserves to be loved and the chance to fall in love". Two souls who've been down on their luck meet by chance, love at first sight. "...I've got two tickets left and so do you. Instead of giving love away to some stranger, let's make them count. C'mon lets get back in line again and ride the big one."
Wonderfully Beautiful Matt ! This song is so Extremely Moving I can't help but cry a little every time I listen to it . Thank You for sharing your Passion with us My Friend ! William Meemken
phenomenal,,,,,what a song that strikes me from all angles. I diddn't know what I was going to see and hear. Yet, in 2 seconds flat i went from utter confusion to tears. My god......
What can I say about this song that hasn't been already said? Its got so much emotion and richness to it. Gus Van Zant ought to put this song in his next movie. Matt you are so wonderful. Thank you for giving the world such a beautiful video and melody. `
I keep coming back to this video - long since saved to my channel. I think it's simply because it's one of those ... you know, ... Great Songs. I really do.
Set in 1960, we shot most of this exquisite little film at my local barbershop on Larchmont Blvd in HllyWD. It stars Jerry Cottone, age 72, who'd been buzzing to perfection for over 50 years. In it, Jerry plays himself, the guy you go to when you're down on your luck, lost all hope of love, and just need to be made anew. Halfway through a handsome gentleman enters the shop for a shine and a fantasy develops to the most romantic conclusion, coaxed along by the guy who knows love the best- Jerry.
i love this song so much. ive listened to it like 20 times in a row and feel so idk empty when it finishes. but Matt Alber's voice is so awesome. i am a instant fan
Today, a friend of mine told me I should check out Matt's music, so first song I found was Monarch, and I instantly fell in love with it, loved it so much infact I downloaded it from ITunes. This song just makes the purchase even better. The song is gorgeous, and the video stunning. Im so glad I found it!
I saw this video a couple of years ago, remembered it just tonight, and found it via google. My google string? "wonderful gay roller coaster barber shop song" How delightful is that?
wow Matt, I got to say this. I don't usually cry, but you brought tears into my eyes with your soulful music! you have such a beautiful soothing voice. (your big fan Luigy)
I rarely comment on performances, videos, etc. but I feel compelled to do so here. This whole thing- the melody, the lyric, Matt's voice, the arrangement, the video itself is so drippingly gorgeous, so movingly sad, that it had me in tears when I viewed it last night for the first time. I see that I am not alone here and that many commentors have had the same reaction. I awoke this morning thinking of it and in watching it now had exactly the same experience. It's a true work of art. Thanks!
i discovered this video when i read the top 100 OUT list. i listen to this track at least 3-5 times a day. im even planning to have this as my dance song with my fiancee at our wedding, she absolutely loves this song.
I just happened to be watching Noah's Arc: Jumping The Broom and was obsessed with this song. I actually put the movie on pause and scoured the internet to find this song. This is intensely beautiful, perfectly sung, poignant, sweet, and deeply romantic. This guy is phenomenal. Is his CD out yet? Just...wow.
I laughed my way through to the end. The world just keeps getting better and better in some ways. & how I wish I could have seen something like this when I was a teenager.
This song is destined to be a classic. I first heard it in the piano bar on a cruise ship. It stuck in my head so I noted the name and bought the CD when I got home. The great video is icing on the cake.
What a wonderful song and video. It really catches ya from the initial subtleties to the smack down ending. It reduced this old codger to a bubbling fool. Thanks Matt, not many can do that anymore.
@mattalbert, this is one terrific song. I heard it for the first time this evening in the 20 Something Movie. It blew me away. Then I found the bonus section that contained your original version. I'm not one to listen to the lyrics - usually the melody is my catch, but both the lyrics and music just get to me each time I hear it.
During one visit we went to 6 Flags in Mexico City and rode the Superman Roller Coaster Ride...DUH this song says it better than i can...Well i DO want to fall, fly and squeeze out EVERY moment! After hearing this song on LOGO i bought the CD. WOW it should have a warning label (in a good way)...prepare to FEEL! This album feeds my soul, for less than $14.00 it's a bargain
Watching Logo one night I heard this song, stopped me from what I was doing, to listen to it. Loved the video, went to my Laptop to find it and saved it on my favorites. The song is one of the best I have heard in a long time and makes feeling in me come out that has not in a long time, Great Job! Keep up the outstanding music!
just such a beautiful message,i happen to be straight with a gay sister, i find this video so touching, its so sweet, i couldent help but to cry, i also happen to be a hard boiled veteran police detective and still, this video and song broke through the stone around my heart.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever, and for me a gay man who's been with my life partner for 36 years its hard to bring us both to tears but boy you did, Thank you so much, with love xx
I used to go to a barber shop just like this one run by four old Italian men in St-Lambert, Quebec, on Victoria Avenue when I was a kid...good memories...
@MaVieEnPurple it's my pleasure and my honor to offer it. It wouldnt have been possible without the donated talents of many many people, including Robin Scovill and Rob Lawe
Like many others, I find myself drunk on this song (and video). Every time I listen to the song or watch the video, I feel like I am satisfying a nearly bottomless thirst.
I had the same reaction Yankee3084, I lost my partner of 13 years not long ago. but I'm grateful for to the friend who sent it to me. You are not a lone. Keep up the great work Matt
I wish there were more people like you in this world. I am a 61 year old gay man who has been in a relationship for 35 years. All we want is acceptance, just like everyone else. You, my friend, get it!
Interesting juxtaposition of what's seemingly going on the lyrics (end of a romance), and whats being portrayed in the video (the beginning of one)...works beautifully
i love this song. watched the movie, the new twenty, and this song was the only song that stood up. theres something about his voice that takes you into the lyrics and the melody of it all. what genre is this? i love it.
From the moment I heard this song, I knew this guy was someone special. The song perfectly answers one simple question...."Should we stay together?" Thanks Matt for giving us gay folks our own romantic anthem.

I've watched this video 3 times now, and each time I've cried. What a beautifully poignant song, so full of love and loss.
This is the most romantic video I 've ever seen! And what a voice! PERFECT!
Words cannot begin to express how beautiful this song is. There is nothing that can be said that will do it justice. Simply amazing.
I remember the first time i heard this song.. it was truly something beautiful. I shed tears because i knew this was someting i would never forget. and the love the two shared broke my heart. the voice, the visual, the sentiment ,all add up to make this one of the most beautiful love songs I have heard in years.Thank you.

Thank you Matt....we need more genuine, positive, loving, romantic images and voices in our world. I count people like you as my personal heroes.
This is one of those songs that go unnoticed until a generation after and then they realize the effortlessness and depth of the video and lyrics.
I cried the first time I listened to this song...it still gets me every time I play it. What an amazing song! I can totally relate to it.
Thank you so much, Matt. You're wonderful.
Matt,

Wow, thank you George. What a cool story! We filmed this in Jerry's Barbershop on Larchmont in Los Angeles. That's Jerry himself even =)

Gorgeous. Pure romance...and this song is a great vehicle for his angelic voice.
Seldom do we get to watch as history is being made...but this video is just that, history. The combination of song, video, and artist is stunning....I just can't believe it. It's so rare that all of these factors line up so perfectly in one piece of work.....great job Matt. Keep them coming.

This is a beautiful song sung by a nuanced, subtly gorgeous voice. I want to get the album now.

This is a beautuiful song. Matt Alber has the voice of an angel. Hell, I'd marry him!
The best thing about this is that Matt takes the time to reply to comments, this video still makes me tear up!

it's so nice to be "dangled over"
the edge, or whatever.
It is one of those songs that you just wish the song would be longer than what it is. And the video is awesome.
Just makes my soul weep, bitterly 😢
