That's all her. You would never know it to see her with the band but off stage she's an introvert and one of the coolest people on the planet. She's all about duality including this song. She learned to do all that because she heard other singers do it.

The fact is that millions of people on this globe are recognising that this band is world class. It is not the shock factor that keeps them going, they are musically very accomplished and frontrunners in metal. I think this song is underestimated in every aspect.

They are from Donetsk , in eastern Ukraine, the part that was annexed by Russia in 2014. To answer your question, yes that is Tatiana, no mic tricks. There is post production with layering, but it's her. I used to be like you, and couldn't stand the harsh vocals, but since diving into yt when the world shut down, and finding bands like Jinjer and EPICA and a few others, they have grown on me. Still prefer a mix of cleans and harsh, but tastes can change. Not saying your taste will, but thanks for checking them out and finishing the song. Was hoping you would finish, just to see the clean belt near the end.
This live session was a redo of an older song, done to showcase Vlad on drums, who had joined not long before this. He ,Roman(guitar) and Eugene (bass) are all awesome musicians. They write the music, and Tati writes most of the lyrics. This song is "Pisces" , as in the astrological sign, the symbol for which is 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, 'duality' is a key word here. Tati and Eugene are both Pisces, he helped her finish the lyrics to this one. 4 albums and several EP's to date
Btw, you don't have to worry about dating her, she is married.🤣😁 Her husband is drummer Alez Lopez, currently a touring member of P.O.D.

🔥Welcome to Jinjer, Rob! I just found your channel, saw your Jinjer reaction and subbed, great reaction even if it's not your cup of tea! You asked why a singer would choose to growl: simply as a tool of expression, most often of anger, pain or both. Thank you for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! I love their energy, how tight they are, how down to earth they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics!
The first time I heard Pisces in 2019, I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wake up alarm for a few years and I still love it more every time I hear it, snooze is a thing of the past).
TLDR: skip to the last paragraph 😂
Sorry for the long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs!
My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and "that was more unexpected than my first child" 🤣
All four current members of Jinjer have essentially no formal musical training except Vlad the drummer who studied classical piano. For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the beautiful sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and classical piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the latest album Wallflowers. Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs.
Jinjer has been a tour-heavy band, touring almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020 and much of the time since then (with interruptions by covid and the US backed coup/proxy war), hard work that has made them fantastic live performers. The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk) in 2008 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see their former guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, in older videos on guitar and a more recent video (Disclosure) playing an interrogator.
One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, Dip A Sail, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that could do well together in one reaction if you're so inclined).
I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (official and/or live at Wacken 2019, both are must-see), Teacher Teacher (official), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video).
Thank you, Rob! I hope you'll keep trying out more Jinjer songs and enjoy! ❤🖤🤘

Agree with the guy who suggested this that Pisces is a rite of passage for reactors. All the big-time reactors, particularly voice coaches/opera singers (Charismatic Voice 1.65M subs; Maggie Renee 300K subs) have done it, as have countless others. If it's not the most reacted to song on TH-cam, it's right there. Plus, the video itself has 84M views, so no doubt about the popularity. It's not everyone's cup of tea, as you noted, but that vocal is all Tatiana with no tricks. The reactors I named above actually go into the physics of how she does it. And it's the astrological sign so it's pronounced Pie-sees, hence the fish related lyrics. Now you can say you're officially a reactor! 🙂

Tatiana is just such an incredible vocalist. And yes it does take skill and technique to do what she does. And the band are incredible musicians

I have been a Jinjer fan for on 6 years now. Tatiana is a world-class growler, there are other front women in metal who do this, these are false fold vocals no enhancements needed, Tatiana has one of the best voices in metal today. You can check out anything by the Band Archenemy, they also have a front woman who has a similar growl.

Tatiana is amazing. A shy, introvert until she walks on stage. That's not half as low or high as she can go with her growls. The rest of the band are ridiculously talented too.
I'm a 57 year old metalhead who wasn't into "screamo". This band kinda ruined me in a good way. Their prog/djent blend of various genres, including jazz, reggae, folk, and punk keeps you on your toes.
Are they for everyone? Hell no, and no hate for it not being your cup of tea.
Just glad you gave them a listen.

Try again Teacher Teacher live by Jinjer. More variety and not so slow. Singing, voice, rap and not so much growl in one song. And if that's nothing, then I think everyone can understand that. This song here is just for the shock and the laugh the first time Jinjer. Other than that, this song isn't really outstanding.
And yes, it really is her voice. Tatjana is outstandingly talented.

Great reaction! hahaha! You are now officially a reactor! I dug into their catalogue and I enjoy quite a bit of their sounds at times. As someone stated below you could try Teacher, Teacher. But in all honesty, you're not going to get into it, in my opinion. Teacher Teacher continues to combine the harsh with clean, and the clean vocals are amazing. There are some blast beat drums, which I suspect aren't your thing too. But, great that you gave this a spin!

Pronounced "pie-seize" - song lyrics are about the astrology sign Pisces, which i understand 2 of the band members at the time were, 1 being the singer.
There are many people that think no metal song is a metal song without growl. Rock songs sung melodic to them are all 'pop'. Everyone likes what they like. I dont seek out songs with growl, but Tatiana is quite good at what she does.

And now you know why it's a right of passage for reactors. Most have pretty wild reactions when she switches to the growl, especially for reactors who haven't been exposed to this kind of vocals in metal songs. Usually I'm out as soon as the growling starts but if you dig into the Devilskin discography you'll find a few spots where she gets a bit harsh. Jinjer is a different story, most songs are quite harsh, this song is somewhat of an outlier. It's the only one I listen to from them. Oh, and one more thing, the name of the song is the zodiac sign Pisces, not "pieces".
Here's a palette cleanser for you, a group called Exigent. Found them from their cover of Evolve from The Warning. A power trio with a brother/sister duo on guitars and another girl on drums. I've seen an interview where they did name The Warning as an influence but they definitely have their own sound. To start off, try their song Low.

    two opposing types of singing..
