    Best gouache flowers on TH-cam. And the music is so touching. Reminds me of my favorite pianist, Kevin Kern. Thank you!

    Thank you! It's SO hard to find "realistic" gouache tutorials, especially botanicals online. Lots of watercolor, but so few in gouache.

    Thanks for the tip about the Burnt Umber I would not have gone there. I'm not a purest but water color looks to be easier. Thanks beautiful.

    Oh, Boy! I am really excited about this one! I got a beautiful set of Holbein Gouache (18 tubes) for my birthday and have yet to make a full painting with them. I have used them here and there for touches (like painting illuminated letters) but never for a full flower like this. I just found my next project to paint! This is beautiful! I can't wait to see how you use them! (Obviously, I didn't watch yet, but I am thrilled to see this!) Thank you! :D (Ps - I love toned papers, too. I have the tan and the grey of this paper and can't wait to give this one a try. :) )

    • @helencampbell
      @helencampbell ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Sheila. You will absolutely love using them. They are incredible quality and very easy to use. Just make sure that you get the consistency right when you use them. You need very little water compare to watercolour to still get them to that nice creamy consistency

      @@helencampbell I have so far been using them from dry. I filled my 19 well tiny Echer palette with them and use them for highlights and over watercolors. (They fit perfectly in there with one hole left in the center for a drop of water if I wish!) I did research quite a bit before choosing them (I directed my sweetie for my gift) and read they are really one of the best. My set is made of small, 5ml tubes, which I feel is plenty for me. I love mixing and I am astonished at how easily they reconstitute from the 'dry state' in the palette. I saw many reviews where people don't use gouache dry from palettes because they don't come back to life easily. But like you, I do a lot of small details and they really do well. This, however, will teach me to use them from the wet state, which will also be fun. Again - thank you. I was so happy to wake up to this one. :)

    Hey Helen, I love your art work💛 Currently I am painting a watercolor leaf inspired by one of your YT tutorials. I've a question for you: which one you enjoy more - watercolor or gouche?

    • @helencampbell
      @helencampbell ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ooh that’s a tough one. If I had to choose it would be watercolour but I adore gouache and I’m fairly new to it

  • @sereenaassih1816
    @sereenaassih1816 ปีที่แล้ว

    A truly beautiful flower! Do you take a similar approach to your gouache painting as watercolour, building up thin layers of paint? I'm new to gouache and am working on getting the consistency right depending on the effect I'm trying to achieve.

    • @helencampbell
      @helencampbell ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. Yes pretty much but it’s great not having to retain the white. Much easier in my opinion. They key is to get the right consistency. Don’t use too much water
