I purchased my Sony a 6600 about four months ago. TH-cam suggested your video. I want to thank you for doing it. It’s just as useful as it was four years ago when you made the video. And the excellent feature of having it timestamp to jump from one topic to the other and keep it as a reference for future use just a great saver. Thank you for your video.
OMG I've been looking for a video like this. Other people put so much junk in their a6600 videos - this is extremely thorough, organized, clear, and the inclusion of topic bookmarks is so great. This video is amazing, thank you!!!!!
Dude. I'm not sure who in the right mind would "dislike" this video. You're thorough, yet to the point and very informative. This was a great video - lifesaving at that. Thanks for putting in the work, Mike!
I haven't watched 10 mins of this but based on the length of your tutorial, no stupid intro/b-rolls, and the positive comments has already made me subscribe and also put your CC on my list. Thank you for making this available!

I find myself coming back here time and time again to get a better understanding of how to use my camera to the best of its abilities. This video is really fucking helpful and i applaud the creator for making it for free.
Just got mine A6600, its a completely new world for me, as I never touched a camera before, so much information and technology that would be a huge challenge to get good at it by myself, so this blessed man did this video, all I could do to re tribute this was to buy the Crash Course...thank you Sir, I have never been so excited about learning as I`m now.
I’ve had Sony camera forever and there are still some settings on the menus I didn’t understand. Thanks for taking the time and cataloging. I was taking an underwater photo workshop and having issues where the image would not show prior to shooting. None of the experienced instructors could figure it out. Many thanks!
Every once in awhile i come across something on TH-cam that is worth it's weight in Gold. Not only is this a perfect video as i sit here with my (new to me) a6600 and i get to walk through all the things i may have skipped or thought "i dont need that", but, it's also a college level beginner crash course on the fundamentals of good photography. Thanks for taking the time to give us this knowledge. FOR FREE! Sony should give you a free camera for this.
Thank you Pete! FWIW I learned to teach at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide). I taught freshman biology for eight years and took what I learned in teaching and apply that now to Photography. Thank you for noticing and best wishes!
I jumped to some specific sections just to get more knowledge, wow this is really reference material, Sony couldn't have done better themselves, amazing work!
Thank you very much for this tutorial. Impressive amount of time you’ve put into educating people like me. I have nothing more than appreciation for guiding this beginner into the beauty of photography with this amazing Sony tool.
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. I just watched all 2 hours 19 minutes and 25 seconds, and I'm sure I will be watching it a few more times over the coming weeks.
This is really great stuff. I really like how you can speak as someone who's clearly used the camera a lot, rather than just going through the motions from the user manual. I particularly like the menu deep dive! Thanks for a great job.
I've made a living as a photographer for way longer than I care to contemplate or am willing to admit. But for all that time I've been a Canon shooter. Now in my...ummm...later years, I decided to downsize and go to a mirrorless option. This tutorial has been truly invaluable in helping me decipher the Sony menu system. Thank you, Michael!
I'm guessing that I will watch and re-watch various segments of this awesome video for a few months at the minimum. Thank you! This is fantastic. Paul in Austin, TX
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It is so appreciated! I've now been in quarantine for a month and this is the perfect time for such a tutorial. Thanks, again!
I have like 3 months since I bought my camera and I was so intimidated by it that I haven’t even used to have at least 1 decent pic! After this video I feel way more confident and confortable when using it! Thanks
Amazing stuff. Thank you. Just got my 6600 in 2024. After selling my Canon DSLR I’ve had for years. Super useful video. And will be going through this again, and saving it for future reference. Thanks again 🙌
Thank you Michael, I got my a6600 a few days ago and a lot of the mist has cleared. You have done a great job of demonstrating the functions and menus. I've just signed up for your A6600 Crash Course and I can't wait to dive into that. Many thanks and keep safe..
Good overview of the A6600. Just upgrade to the A6600 from the A6000 and the manual is 165 pages! The video, a bit long which the time markers was handy, did go over what was needed to know on the camera controls. FYI for the beginners, that Michael may or may not know; I was told by the Tamron rep at the photo show in NYC that Tamron makes Sony lens. A high Tamron lens is equal to or similar than the Sony counter part. This was confirm by a rep from Sony at a different show.
Very useful vid. I watched start to finish and it really helped understand the camera and how to set it up to start getting photos I want from it. Will play with what I took away from this vid, will consider the crash course for sure after I work with the camera for a bit. I'm blow away by the capabilities of the 6600 and can't imagine anyone uses all of them, and likley way more camera than I actually needed. But, it appears I will not need a new camera for a long time! My plan is to shoot in A mode per vid recs and see what I get.
Extremely well organized initial guide for Sony A6 series users, and also a good refresh guide for experienced users. Thank you for the work and useful information.
Thank you for responding to my question. I think I have figured it out. I can use the screen as a touch pad (using view finder) with using any focus area except wide and center (tracking or non tracking). My settings are:Touch Panel/Pad set to Touch Panel+Pad and Touch Pad settings set to Operation in Vertical Orientation set to ON and Touch Position Mode set to Absolute Position and Operation Area set to Right 1/2. I am surprised by this as I can use the screen as a touch pad with both center and wide focus areas on my a6400.
Michael I rented this camera for a week to test on my 100-400 and 200-600 for wildlife, the performance is exceptional. The autofocus and battery life are amazing, what I don't like is the form factor and controls. Sony needs to take this camera and put it in an a7 body and they would have a winner on their hands
Have you tried any of the other A6*** series cameras? The A6600 is by far the best. They also changed the grip specifically for it, it’s different than the other A7 bodies
@@MMaven I agree the grip was great I refer to the controls or lack thereof , I really like using the front and rear control wheels for aperture and shutter
@@MMaven Canon has the 7D Nikon the D500, Sony needs to take those 2 cameras and make them better, we now have 2 of the best wildlife lenses on the market in the 100-400 and 2-600, we need a crop camera that makes those lenses proud 😊

Cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowledge! You're a good man and excellent instructor! Please Michael, I need help! I can't find a way to fix this issue I am having with this camera: When previewing videos and photos on my camera, it does NOT display in full screen. Instead, it displays a small preview image with all of the information about the image around it (all the settings I used, including what looks like color levels on the right of the screen). I just want to view my photos in full screen. What do I do? This is driving me crazy!
Michael, This is awesome stuff! I just purchased an a6600 (mostly for learning stills photography) and a Lumix GH5 for video. I am brand-new to Sony cameras, and the instruction that you have provided in this video is nothing short of excellent. In fact, I learned so much about my new 6600 from this one presentation, that I went ahead and bought the Crash Course and the Photoshop course. I can't wait to get started on them. Great tutorial - I'm stumped on one thing if anyone knows. When I'm in Aperture Priority Mode and changing the aperture, the shutter speed is not showing as a fraction but in inches and I don't know how to change it to make it show up like in the video.
Yes, exactly - Aperture Priority mode works by measuring the light in your current situation. Go outside during the day and watch it change. Those “ marks mean seconds. It’s because you are using your camera in a dark situation and it would require a long exposure to get enough light.
