I'm in the process of restoring a sailboat and I hope to explore Central America when I finally splash. I'm curious if the local people you meet expect payment of some kind when they feed you. How much do necessities like food and fuel cost when provided by locals? I imagine many cruisers are living on a shoestring and don't have much to barter or cash to spend. It depends where you visit! These Panamanian guys didn’t ask for anything in return, but if you visit the more touristy areas then you can expect to pay a little more. Good luck with your project!
