Nice video. I’d highly recommend filling that second drive bay and setting up raid though. You’ll be feeling the pain if that single drive goes down. That was a Very thorough look into the NAS👍
@@JSyntax As much as you think you don't need RAID 1, when that drive goes down you will be hurting. It is better to protect than to lose or rebuild. But you do you.
Hey thank you for the indepth look. I'm new to nas systems but took the leap because of your video. Looking to use it for personal storage between my wife and i which will also be our WFH storage. We use Mac OS, is it cool if you did a run down on how to map drives for mac so we can access the drives away from home using the SShfs protocol?
I've been looking for a decent NAS enclosure for a few weeks. I actually ordered this a few hours ago and checked out your video afterwards to make sure my logic to purchase this model was sound. Seems like I've made a good choice. Btw, not a fan of WD drives. I've instead gone for the Toshiba NAS N300. Thanks for your review.
great video. i was in the same place as you and doing the same thing. I have a few ext usb storage "devices", lol. Yes everyone was over the moon about the big name brands and the "ace a store" (i heard that how to say it) was heads and shoulders above on the hd side. all the review stated the sw was not up to par. I think it works well. caching nvme drive x2 is better that just about anything else out there.
Good job my friend, nice video But can you make a detailed explanation video for how to setup the sftp to access asustor nas over internet with no blur on what u do and write please, I need that necessarily 😘
sold. I'm finally gonna remove that big hard drive in my itx case for this for better cooling Edit: I have a question, my isp blocks port forwarding since forever, will that be an issue?
To eliminate HDD noise from large capacity drive activity. First remove the outer plastic casing & leave off, then place the device on its side so that the drives operate horizontal as opposed vertical. Keep in a place with plenty of space around it out of direct sunlight. Place antivibration foam underneath to stop vibration to wooden TV stands. Bingo you will only hear the drives operating at about 9-10 dB`s. Hope this is helpful 🙂
@JSyntax I bought the 4 drive, I went through your link, but I'm not sure if it worked for you as I went with the 4 drive. If it doesn't show for I can send you ord number or contact them that this was the video that bought this.
Hello, i have this nas and i have a problem with it, the connection speed is very slow, is connected at my office with 1 gbps internet speed and when i am traing to access documents from home is very slow and takes very long time to open a word document or to save it. this is happening when I us asustor app, ana you help me?
Hello, great video. Can you tell me if I can either plug in a sd card via usb dongle/reader/holder, or plug a gopro in directly via usb, and then transfer the files directly to the nas automatically or by pressing the button on the front? thanks for any help
@@JSyntax I travel and do some mtb videos, I am after something to put in my caravan and when I get back to the caravan I can just plug in my sd card or GoPro directly and just transfer everything to the nas so I can work on it later and start out with an empty sd card each day. Cheers
Hey man, have you done a review of Fitbit Sense 2 and compared its sleep features and SP02? I know you have done this on earlier models but I can't find a video where you do this?
I would be interested on this as well. My Fitbit 2 sense os showing low oxygen saturation that correlates with my rem sleep which couldean I have sleep apnea. This watch does have find phone feature. Also I'd love if you could do a video on the pixal google fitbit.
That WD My Cloud device is not an external drive, though; that's a competing NAS, actually. As a matter of fact, I've been using one for the past 7 years now and am thinking of upgrading to this very Asustor (gen 2) you're reviewing.
Qnap has a better software side, and Asustor has a better Hardware side (in some cases, depends on what you need). I went to a AS5304T and it was marvelouse. Good software and great hardware specs for things you cant image do with it. Go for Asustor.
@@JSyntax yeah i got the 4 bay, so far so good just didn’t allowed it to be access over the internet (scared of the security vulnerabilities) backing up photos and videos from my phone is kinda troublesome cause you need to make sure your phone doesn’t sleep but other than all good. 👍
Hi, I have a Asustor Nimbustor 4 AS5304T and accidently done a factory reset .When I've reinstalled the Hard drives it wiped all the data . Now I'm using Wondershare Recoverit to recover all my data and it is super slow . Do you know of any tool on the Nas that can recover the data ?
Hi, I am traing to connect with sshfs and I get acces denied, after i put the username and password. Can you help me? Do I need to create a new Username and Password?
You still with 1 HDD only? If you data is important to you, you should use 2 HDD in Raid1 (minimum) each one HDD mirror the other in case of one of them fail (and will fail). Another suggestion of everyone is to get a 4 bay NAS, because future expansion and the limitation of 2 bays. Asustor need to mature his OS but its in the good way (ADM 5 is in the way) cheers
Its not, i know, but if that drive fails? The beauty of a NAS is there online availability and RAID capabilities but if you good with that, im no one to judge.
My AS4002T died a little over 3 years since purchase, so ASUStor were not prepared to help. At least I was able to create a support ticket, but replies took 2 days, so it was a slow process. They did eventually offer to allow me to buy spares, but since it was not clear what had failed (I was unable to run diagnostics), I declined their offer. Nevertheless it was a massive disappointment that the NAS would fail after so little time. It mainly had videos music and photos and was used by the family. We didn't back it up (!), but with some effort most of the stuff can be restored. Currently the family is upset at not having their media server online. I will NEVER buy ASUStor again.
@@JSyntax As with everything, it's the luck of the draw. Nevertheless IMO for some high ticket computer devices, perhaps the law should indicate a minimum guarantee time. The UK current guarantee of 1 year for anything is too weak for computer devices like phones and tablets, etc. ASUStor claimed it was a rare failure, but if so they could have made a special exception, especially considering the device is now out of production by some time (I think it was when I bought it). Pity as when it worked I thought that the interface was really well implemented. Now back to watching more NAS videos in order to figure out what to replace it with.
wow so much great, useful information! I was leaning toward a local RAID system, but I could definitley benefit from this remote solution.

agreed, but I'm willing to make the trade off! the files are not mission critical and I will do offsite backups with my now empty external drives! ty

@@lvc394agreed but also don't rely on raid as a substitute for a backup. I've learned the hard way
