The reason Logan took Kendall was because he could tell Kendall was moving past the death and building a positive relationship with Naomi. Logan saw that as him losing his grip on Kendall, so he took him to see the family as a way to put him back in his place.
I know Successsion isnt your most viewed series on the channel but I promise it has the most payoff. I feel like this show has changed the way I approach business and relationships. Everyone on the show are bad people but there’s so many lessons and nuggets of knowledge you pick up along the way without realizing. The writing of the show is emotionally intelligent and it rubs off on you by the series finale
I saw someone make a comment about a certain future event that the kids are so focused on their dad's crap that they forget they have 2 abusive parents
I think they have to realise that everyone in this show is making a power play or something. Achara seems to understand the motives and show a bit more. LIke the whole thing with the mum, shes right using the children to make jabs at Logan and the fact she said lets make Logan choose was to force him either to give up more than he wants or show the children he would rather choose house over the children. EIther way she "wins". I didnt really get the struggle to understand why he brought Kendall. Kendall broken is a one that is easier to control. If Kendall starts to get his life back together, e.g feeling happy being with Naomi, starts gaining confidence etc he becomes another potential challenger. Break his mind again by making him relive the whole situation and he will be much easier to control. As i think someone else mention, in abusive relationships they try make the person feel like they need them .
Logan's choice to bring Kendall makes perfect sense when you remember that he is an abuser. Kendall was finally starting to feel more like himself again and find happiness with Naomi, and Logan didn't like that. Needed to put him back in "his place". Both he and their mom are manipulative af. Would love if you guys would watch the Inside the Episode that comes after the credits, might clear up some of the confusion Jaby tends to have! So glad you guys are back with the reactions, keep em coming! 🙏
Logan at S2 start pulled Ken out of rehab just 2 days in and put him in a stressful situation. In s2e1, in Summer Palace, Logan tells Ken to "just stop thinking about it." Throughout the whole season, he (knowingly) offhandedly calls Ken 'killer', Ken in previous episode stood up to Logan as soon as Roman was hit. Ken questioned Logan's relationship with Rhea. And so, immediately Logan put him in place by suggesting going to the waiter's place. And the ride back kept taunting Ken by saying that they are good people. Ken was starting to get back into shape so to speak and got knocked down. Will love to hear your thoughts on Ken's behavior next episode.
Just when Kendall started to move on and be happy with someone and trying to be friendly to Logan . He takes it as an insult and try to remind him of the horrible thing Kendall did and what Logan did for him in return . It's like he loves mentally and physically abusing these kids 🥱
"It's like he likes to abuse his kids." This is not a hypothetical idea. It is the truth. Logan is an abusive dad. At episode start tries gaslighting Roman about the slap from previous episode. Dehumanized his kids and made them fight the other. Gaslighting, dehumanizing, snark and no help from Caroline.
“Logan Roy only loved something he could kick around and would still run back to him” this is Kendall in a nutshell, arguably the most abused and betrayed of the 4 kids, but absolutely still loves his dad. In the safe room episode, his dads first words upon being secured is “where’s Kendall, is he safe”
I didn’t get the point of that bathroom monologue recording scene with Greg till watching it through the second time. He’s testing whether his phone records conversations through the fabric well because he planned on recording him and Tom burning the papers later. It explains his super strange dialogue with Tom on the balcony as they burn the papers. He’s almost reading out a play by play of what they’re doing for the recording.
Bringing Kendall was a personal strategy not a business strategy. Kendall’s confidence had started to come back, and he was questioning Logan’s judgement (asking if thinks having a relationship with Rhea is a good idea). So he drags him back down into the mud. He wants Kendall to be his ever submissive corporate zombie, and dangling this over his head is the best way to do that. Fucked. Up.
Logan not only took Kendall to see the family of the kid he helped to delete, he also sent his kids to nickel and dime their mom. The mom then uses Christmas as a negotiating tactic. Speaks volumes
Logan is a full on monster. It’s incredible that the writers make us like him and somewhat respect him so much as the show progresses. The more I watch this show the more I appreciate Cox’s tremendous performance.
Not only that, but you (as a viewer) get sucked into his mind game a bit. We are invested in each kids' storyline of wanting daddy's Roy approval because of this. Even though, probably Connor's way of just take the money and remove yourself from the drama is the smartest.
I'm always so confused when people say this. What parts of him do you find likeable? (Not rhetorical, genuinely wondering) I sort of find it impressive how he is capable of outsmarting people, but other than that I just find him so mean and awful idk what other people are seeing
As usual, Achara is dead on and Jaby is lost. That said, I've watched every episode at least 5 times over and it just keeps getting better when you know the characters going in.
@@ianp5367 I feel like there is a tendency upon first watch to read too much into the plot lines. They are usualy pretty straight forward if you're paying attention, they're typically not trying to trick you. Understanding the characters is the key. Jaby seemed to be hyper focused on wondering if he knew how that would make Kendall feel. It's like duh, Logan's not an idiot, and he's a sociopath. Of course he knows how it makes Kendall feel, bu lt there's an advantage to it. Jaby is caught up in trying to make the characters mirror his own understanding of relationships and isn't absorbing himself into this world.
Way I see it, Logan was punishing Kendall by taking him to the family for daring to speaking out against and criticizing his relationship with Rhea. So in the car to the family, he straight up said "you know, me and Rhea are doing X" to test if Kendall is falling back in line.
regarding the shiv/rhea thing, i think shiv didn't say anything about rhea telling her to go for the pierce job because she knows exactly how it would have sounded to logan. there's actually no possible excuse she could have given that would justify it to logan. if shiv says "rhea is the one that offered it to me", logan can just say "well you could have said no. you SHOULD have said no if you were loyal to the family." shiv got snookered and i think she knew there was no point trying to point the finger at rhea.
Since it's being more than a week that you guys have posted a succession reaction, I just wanted to check if you have uploaded a new episode. And here it is, great timing 😊
Diegesis is also reacting to Succession. They seem to understand it a little better as well. Jimmy MacCram also reacted to the whole series if you're looking for others to watch it I suggest those.

I'm still two minds about it, but I'm gearing more towards the writers pivoting slightly with their initial idea of Shiv-Tom relationship or at least Shiv's character. S2 or even late S1 Shiv differs from her character introduced in the pilot or very early S1. I kind of forgot that initially she seemed to be very much championing Tom in front of her family and enjoying his goofiness around her (later on, she looks annoyed by it). This episode truly shows what a dreadful person Logan is for me. He sees Kendall is getting a bit of confidence back, when he questions him about rhea, so he pushes him back down by taking him to that family, knowing it’ll emotionally mess him up again. Just awful. Then the mum who deliberately avoids having a tough talk with a son clearly needing help. And I agree she’s clearly bitter the kids see more of Logan, but she definitely uses it as a chance to show how he’d choose the house over them. So much gameplaying. What awful parents! Oh and Greg was testing the sound of his phone recording earlier before recording him and Tom. As for shiv, even if she’d said to Logan, rhea suggested it, rhea is still technically on the pierce team and considering changing teams was a no no for Logan. The fact he set her up as a test is just another example of how he requires complete control of his kids.

No they don't. It is basically emotional cheating from Tom's side. And he threatens Greg regularly even when Greg wants to move away ((literally hits him in s2e4)
I don't understand why Shiv married Tom. She doesn't act like she cares about him at all. He also doesn't give her any power or opportunities as he isn't on the same level of "social standing" as her family is.
What specifically that they said do you feel that way about? I think Shiv is written (very intelligently, by a writer’s room that includes a lot of women) to be an intensely offputting and frustrating character and a common audience response is to dislike her behavior and treatment of Tom. Obviously she’s way more complex than people’s kneejerk response to her. Just curious what you took issue with
@@feelthelove3725 I don't find Shiv more off putting or unlikable than Roman or Kendall honestly and I've seen this show a ton of times from beginning to end at this point. She isn't my favorite character either but audiences outside of stan twitter seem to harbor an intense dislike for her whereas similar characters to Shiv on other shows like Mad Men for example don't get that much hate from these same exact audiences. I'm subscribed to a channel that was watching Mad Men while reacting to Succession, a completely different reaction towards the cutthroat, ambitious, only care about work, and unfaithful men on there. Finally, there have been studies on how women who aren't nurturing, maternal, or warm are typically viewed way worse than men who are the same.
@@feelthelove3725 I'm not rewatching several reactions for specific quotes but my qualm in general is that they seem to extend more empathy towards Kendall and Roman than Shiv. They're all horrible and Shiv is calculating and not easily tied down but if she was a man they would not be seen as such negative traits. What gets me about her character is that she illustrates so well how women might get "favorable" treatment (her being her dad's favorite (pinky)) but it's a sham because she's never deemed good enough just by being a woman (her father seeing Kendall as the true heir even though she is much more like him, her only getting brought in to be the face of the scandal, the constant gendered insults by her family). Also, it feels like they started to really dislike her when the show showed how little attention she payed to her husband. Reverse the roles, rich and powerful husband occupied with his own career and deals and an ignored wife who married him for money and status who sadly stands by as her husband "cheats". No one would bat an eye, it's a far more normalized scenario but seeing a woman being the more powerful and emotionally neglectful one elicits a much stronger response because ot feels more wrong. Also we don't get as much of a close look into Ken's and Rome's relationships as we do with hers. Ken is a deadbeat dad and (as it later turns out) a pretty scary ex and Rome asked his girlfriend to lay still so he can pretend to fuck a corpse and cheats with Gerri.... but Shiv is the psycho because she's an awful partner because she's also a fucked up Roy heir.... Anyway, I hope they come around on her and see her for the complex character she is too. I feel like Achara is much closer to getting it and not seeing her just as a "bitch".
@@EriksDesdemona It has nothing to do with sexism - that's such a cheap and lazy critique - but everything to do with the fact that Ken and Roman are vulnerable narcissists while Shiv is a malignant narcissist (like Logan), and that's why it's easier to empathize with them compared to Shiv. Besides, If anyone is sexist, it's you for thinking that men can get away with more than women when it's the other way around. There is much less social and legal punishment for women who commit sexual or domestic violence towards men. The same for women who cheat on or murder men, or women who just act like an asshole towards men. This is the sexist double standard, not the other way around.
The reason Logan took Kendall was because he could tell Kendall was moving past the death and building a positive relationship with Naomi. Logan saw that as him losing his grip on Kendall, so he took him to see the family as a way to put him back in his place.

@@magnuskarlsson8655 thank you for (incorrectly) mansplaining that to me. unfortunately i'm not a mens rights activist so idgaf. live, laugh, love. :)
I don’t get Malala Roy…
Logan is DEFINITELY trying to break Kendall. What for?……you might know by the season finale 🤷🏿♂️
