For Bandana Dee's stage, I can see Another Dimension making it in. It's the most consistent location throughout the modern Kirby games and is very striking. I can imagine the stage hazards being the impending wall and the Sphere Doomers.
@@LukeDobsonToshiro102 that would be awesome any modern Kirby stage would be great or at the very least something after super star would be great too as Kirby stages only seem to be green greens and some from adventure and super star. While Zelda gets botw and skyward sword stages and Mario gets Galaxy and Odyssey stages. Kirby is living in the past in these games. Any stage from return to dreamland, triple deluxe, planet robobot, amazing mirror, squeak squad, or even canvas curse or mass attack would be awesome.

Astral Chain and Ring Fit have Spirits. Rex, Pyra, Bandana Waddle Dee, and Paper Mario are also Spirits. These are just the same old guesses, wants, and desires again and again and again. You guys are simply expecting certain characters when clearly the unexpected is the focus of how Nintendo is handling the DLC.

@@JorjoGiovanna I mean, they turned a console game into a gatcha game, they could invert it. Just make a game that has a large set of unlockable characters throughout the main campaign. It covers the character appeal of gatcha in doing that, and it can otherwise be mechanically unique, as long as it still has a Dragalia Lost "feel" to it. Don't include all of the gatcha characters, or maybe even don't include any and make it completely standalone, and then bring those stand alone characters into the gatcha game. I think it'd work decently enough

There’s a difference between a fan made rule and an unbroken pattern. No spirits have become fighters, neither have assist trophies. I don’t think either of these patterns will prove arbitrary.
Croationman True, but these patterns can be broken whenever Sakurai feels like doing so. Is it more unlikely to see a character get in if they fall under this pattern? Absolutely! But impossible? No. Patterns are very handy to predict off of but not wise to rely on. For instance, who would’ve thought King K. Rool, Joker, Banjo, Pichu, and Snake would’ve gotten in during speculation days? (Don’t even get me started on the Sans and Cuphead mii costumes, I’m still in shock)
@@nautilume7114 They can be broken. I see no good reason to make a character a fighter who's already in the game as an item, spirit, stage hazard, etc. It wouldn't make sense from a marketing perspective as it wouldn't be a surprise.
Croationman tbh Sakurai lives on anything besides patterns because he’s so unpredictable, I don’t think how he normally picks things is gonna stop him from bringing the game to the full potential. Chrom is still in Robin’s FS and he’s a Fighter, so I don’t think a Spirit or Assist would stop a certain character from coming. Also, things like this have already happened for Lucas and Mewtwo in 4, they could just add a new Fighter Spirit for that character like Lucas.
I definitely think we’re going to see more 1st Party characters in this DLC pass, at least 2 or 3 more I think. In terms of who I want for 1st Party Characters, Bandana Dee is still #1 for me, but I’m definitely unsure of who they’ll actually add.
Apparently the pandemic is making meetings to discuss planned 3rd-party additions difficult. Will this mean they decide to shift plans and aim for more 1st-parties this far down the line? Can't be sure.
Good video. The more recent Astral Chain and Ring Fit events make me doubt them, but would be happy with any of these characters really. My most wanted 1st party characters are Micaiah, Krystal and Isaac, although I don't really want to see the Smash community implode from having another Fire Emblem character so soon so maybe just the latter two!
I had an idea for Euden’s moveset. Since cooperation is such a big part of Dragalia Lost’s plot and gameplay, perhaps Euden’s moves could have Elisanne, Ranzal, Luca, and Cleo come in for assistance. They all have their own health bars on Euden’s UI, and if they’re damaged enough, they no longer assist until Euden gets another stock. For example, for Euden’s up special, He uses Blazing Circlet, but if Ranzal is alive, he shows up and uses Tornado Bash alongside Euden.
I may not have played Dragalia Lost but that moveset idea is pretty cool. Kinda works like Robin's tomes and Levin Sword but can only be restored with losing a stock. Also ngl Gunvolt would be pretty cool.
I really like the concept for Euden, and Akira would be pretty refreshing (reminds me a bit of a stance character). Excited to see what you'll have in the guest fighter video.
Akira and Ring Fit Trainer aren't happening. They recently got Spirit Events, if they were going to be playable they would've hold them back. Look at how there was never a Spirit Event for Three Houses.
Eliza Artz maybe they made the spirits event before they decided on the fighter. Also, all the spirits are from the base game, if they made new spirits they would be from the DLC to promote it
@@AshenDust_ The SWSH spirits were added to the game in November, two months after they confirmed more dlc was coming and the characters were chosen, i'm almost certain that means no gen 8 mon or at the very least, a low likelihood of it happening

I'd seriously consider looking into Sylux. I really think he's got a more legit chance than most other First Party characters, and here's why: Sylux isn't a big deal just yet, but there's no doubt he will be. Ever since he appeared as one of six playable hunters in a DS spinoff, the Metroid Prime series dev team has made it clear that they're nowhere near done with him. His return has been HEAVILY foreshadowed in both the 100% endings of MP3 and Federation Force, and the devs straight-up confirmed he'll be taking center stage in Prime 4. Not to mention, out of all the characters to debut in Hunters, he's easily the most fan-favorite, and may even be one of the most beloved characters in the series, depending on who you ask. He's got amazing moveset potential, too. Just from his appearance in Hunters, we can see he uses powered armor similar to Samus's, a main weapon called the Shock Coil that can drain health from enemies, a Morph Ball-like Lockjaw form that can leave electric tripwires, and a plethora of other weapons he borrows from the other hunters for the game's Multiplayer mode. And that's just in one spinoff game; due to his upcoming central importance in a main series title, he's likely to get a huge update to his abilities, as well, giving him an insane amount of unknown potential that we as fans can't possibly fully imagine. Now, all that may not guarantee him a roster spot (or even make it likely, really), but considering all of that, it's actually rather suspect he doesn't even have a Spirit in Smash Ultimate. It's not like they just forgot about Hunters, either; Trace and Kanden still have Spirits in the game, after all. Freaking Geemers - the Goombas of the Metroid series - even have a Spirit. Basic enemies and lesser hunters at least have Spirits, but not a fan-favorite, dev-beloved character slated to play a central role in the future of the franchise? Something's up, there. My guess is he was planned for FP1, partially to help promote Prime 4, but when Prime 4's development restarted, the timing got all screwed up. I know you even said in this video that promotion isn't as big a factor as most people think it is, and I agree, but the only other explanation is that they just straight-up chose to completely exclude such a beloved and soon-to-be important character from the biggest crossover in gaming history. Frankly, I just don't buy that.
This makes perfect sense! There was a leak back before the DLC characters were revealed, which accurately predicted Joker, along with Banjo & Kazooie and a Square Enix rep. The leak also claimed Edelgard from FE: Three Houses would be DLC, but we instead got Byleth, which is sort of close. But the last character the leak claimed was *Sylux* from Metroid, and that's where things get interesting. Metroid Prime 4 was supposed to be this huge game that was probably releasing during Fighters Pass 1, and of course Nintendo would put a character as DLC to promote it, just like Byleth promotes FE:3H, so it makes sense! Heck, there were even leaks and rumors of a Metroid Prime trilogy being released in 2019, but that never happened, most likely because the development got restarted, which was announced in January 2019. So Sylux being in FP1 isn't really far-fetched to speculate, and I also believe he got pushed back to FP2, so I'm hoping to see Sylux sometime next year! Isabelle got added to sort of promote AC: New Horizons, Hero got added to promote Dragon Quest XI S on the Switch and push the franchise to the West, Byleth got added to push FE:3H sales, and ARMS rep is being added to either give ARMS a new life, upcoming DLC, or a sequel, although the first one makes the most sense to me, because it sold quite well in the beginning, but then the sales sort of stopped and supposedly not as many people are playing that game, and Nintendo wants people to play ARMS. The question is, though, if Sylux was cut from FP1, _who_ replaced his slot?? My best guess is Terry Bogard, because even though Fatal Fury/King of FIghters were popular back in the day and SNK and Nintendo sort of have a history, the character wasn't fan-requested AFAIK, and the sales of the franchise were below average (SNK press conference from Dec 2018 reveals that KoF franchise has a total of _4 million sales_ and that's pretty low), so what's really the reason to include him? I'm thinking either SNK struck a deal with Nintendo to promote their franchise since they're trying to reclaim themselves as of late, OR Nintendo was in need of a replacement character ASAP and SNK are in the business of lending their IPs to others and have also worked with Nintendo to publish SNK Heroines on the Switch (which is why the physical edition is exclusive to Switch), so it was natural for them to approach them for the character quickly. Thoughts? :)
Sylux makes sense. I've always wished that Rundas from Prime 3 would get in since he is also popular among Metroid fans, but that's really unlikely since Rundas probably won't be in another Metroid game. I'd at least like his battle theme to be added to the OST.
As for the pokemon, I really don't want to see another damn starter evolution. I'd much rather have a new legendary, or even something out of left field, like Boltund or Flapple.
I don’t really think it’s be a starter since none of the starters really got any clout like Charizard or Greninja did. They kinda just came and went. It’s weird though because I can’t think of any regular Pokémon that got clout like Lucario either.
NixUniverse The best candidates I’ve kept in mind are Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, and Toxtricity. That said, I think the legendaries and starters have legitimate chances.
Luke Rabon The Galar anime is barely even on its first legs, there’s nowhere near enough to draw fan appeal from, especially considering how much in advance they’d have to decide the fighter. The more I think about it, another gen 7 ‘mon might not actually be off the table. We’d presumably get gen 8 music alongside it, but it would also rectify the lack of US/UM content in the base game.
Sm4shifyer like I think looking at series without a music track in smash is a good idea, but fire emblem already had a ton of songs and we got a fire emblem character. Just saying I’m not gonna get my hopes up for all new franchises, but it is interesting to examine which franchises have the least representation so far.
@@Bagu_Art Well, you could look at various Nintendo series represented by at least one fighter and see which games from those series don't have tracks featured in Ultimate. Try starting with series that only have one rep.
lol while watching this video for the first time I checked my phone and saw the new trailer for paper mario origami kingdom. After finishing it I continued watching the video only to see paper mario be brought up a little later. I like how you were entertaining the idea of a new paper mario game being in the works, and possibly inspiring paper mario as a new character, and then 2 weeks after this video was made the confirmation was shadow dropped (about a new game, not paper mario being in smash).
If the Astral Chain protag did get in, they'd be referred to as Legionis, if you recall, Akira is very specifically the twin you DON'T play as, as such they'e not the one that gets the multiple Legions. This is a detail Sakurai would be accurate about. Still not sure why people keep making this mistake, it's no different to people calling Link Zelda.
Imagine Rex & Pyra made into the game and have a semi-turnbase moveset like in Xenoblade Chronicles 2: You play as Rex but Pyra is following you like Arsen follows Joker. Aerials, Tils & Smashes are based on the auto-attacks of Rex. Up-, Down- and Side-B are the 3 default special moves: Ankershot, Double spinnig Edge & Backslash. You can only use them after a sudden numbers of normal attacks like in the game. Neutral B is Pyras Special: After each special move, you're charging the move from I: Flame Nova (quiet good) til IV: Burning Sword: really overpowered. When you die, you lost your Neutral-B-Level. It would be a really nice and fresh playstyle with a strong but risky comeback mechanic. I would love it!
Vaati would be cool though he would be an obscure pick. Though tbh I think he has better moveset potential than skull kid and would probably be way more fun. I think there should be more villains in smash. Adding some Kirby villains wouldn't hurt either like magolor, dark matter, galacta knight, or the OG nightmare. Also porky from earthbound and waluigi should be in the game.
I'd like Vaati as well, but he hasn't been relevant in so long. He wasn't even in Hyrule Warriors. I'm not sure, but I wonder if Capcom partially owns Vaati since they developed the Four Swords games.
Months ago, just a few weeks after Byleth was avaliable a friend was comenting that in his opinion the aparience of the 5th character was probably switcheable between bylet and the astral chain protagonist. Meaning that the mechanicss were created to suit both and whoever (game) made better sales before the anouncement will be the final character and that's why byleth presentation was kinda rushed. At first I had my doubts about that, but playing it, and later when the spirits of astral chain were launched (specially the one with the huge bow), I had to admit that his idea has a lot of sense

NixUniverse I think it’ll alternate between first & third but I agree with the ratio. First party characters are great, but unless you’re from Mario or Pokémon, you’re not gonna convince someone who doesn’t already have the game to buy the pass unless you have some big crossover. Joker got so many people into Smash & Persona.
In regards to what was said during the guidelines, Metalblade5 predicted Byleth 24 hours before the reveal. He’s not the only one who predicted him/her, but it’s a example of keeping expectations flexible.

First off I love your videos. Your fantastic at giving logical thought and analyzing trends and patterns and not just jumping on the popularity bandwagon(although sometimes they intersect, like with Rex for example). Secondly, anything fresh to the series is fantastic, that's why I'm so excited for an Arms rep, smash is finally getting it's Dhalsim type character that it has been missing for so long. Finally, I'd love to see Dixie Kong, Bandana Dee, and Ray(Custom Robo) join the battle as the Nintendo Characters, with Ryu Hayabusa(with stealth heavy gameplay) and Arthur(Ghosts and Goblins) join the roster for a fun balance of gameplay potential and Nintendo history.
I’m actually really glad you suggested Dragalia Lost in this video, I feel like most people look at it and say, “Oh it’s just a mobile game, there’s no way it could possibly make it into Smash.” I personally feel like Dragalia Lost can contend with console and PC games with how the gameplay feels. As someone who played it since launch day I definitely hold some biased opinions, but hey so does everybody else when it comes to Smash. I do feel like mentioning that even though it’s a gacha game, never have I ever spent real money just to do a 10 summon like how most other gacha games try to promote. I don’t want to ramble on too long but I would like to see Euden’s Final Smash be turning into High Midgardsormr and sending his opponents into a massive tornado, that would be so cool.
For the Pokémon I don’t think inteleon could make it because even though he is sneaky and has a water snipe gun it could be a complete copy of greninja as he is sneaky and has water shuriken but I mean there could possibly be an update where they make an inteleon skin for greninja

One interesting point that I'm not certain I understand how to handle... New DLC characters will also get those seperate spirit boards right? so what'll happen if a character gets in that already has most of their games' characters as spirits? Like, for example, Waddle Dee?
For starters, Waddle Dee is already a Spirit, so I think a proper example here is ARMS. All I can think of with ARMS is that we get one fighter and the rest of the 9 characters, as well as possibly Biff and Hedlok, become part of the DLC Spirit Board.
@@MetalZuko Nah man Arms is easy, that spirit board would just get whatever ARMS characters aren't in yet. I'm talking about: If Waddle Dee were to get in, who would appear on his seperate DLC spirit board? Basically every Kirby character is in the game already!
I think it would be dope to include a character that’s from Smash itself. Ultimate is already a big time celebration of gaming, but it’s never given itself a fair shake. Master Hand comes to mind if they somehow manage to scale him down, but even something like Tabuu would be an awesome callback. It’s super unlikely, but it can’t hurt to hope
Sorry, not happening. DLC was decided by Nintendo, and they're more business-oriented than Sakurai, so we're probably going to see characters that either serve Nintendo's own IPs well, or 3rd party IPs well. Adding Master Hand would be cool, but that can wait for the next installment of Smash as part of the base roster. :/

The Origami King! After seeing that there is a new Paper Mario game coming, it seems that something related to it might be more of a possibility! But I think personally that the villain of this new game might make a more interesting fighter than Paper Mario, especially if he incorporates origami into his move set somehow.

Since the announcement of XCDE, I've been leaning towards the idea of Melia joining the roster. It sounds weird, but hear me out: she's one of, if not the most popular character from Xenoblade, she's been given the starring role in Future Connected, which is essentially a brand new game, just like Torna. She has a wide variety of options for moves, like summoning ether, Mind Blast, attacking with her staff, stuff like that. And lastly, she's been given a new design completely different from her existing Smash Spirit, making it easy to keep her existing Spirit, and add her new look as the fighter Spirit you get for clearing her Classic Mode route.
Wee need either one of the following in smash, 2B, 9S, or A2. They could add new mechanics tothe game soi we should ass tehm ro thw mhame thiet game has ot many weapons to add different kinds of attacks and maybe even add a weapon upgrading system of sorts? This collab would be so insane, 2B could change the whole meta🏹 shoult even have character swapping or something. And also the pod could add many mechanics.

Porky and Scribblenauts sound cool but for me... Phoenix Wright would be cool or a Kirby rep. From Kirby, Dark Matter Swordsman sounds really cool to me now as fighting meta knight with him would be fun though bandana waddle dee, daroach, magolor, and galacta knight are also welcome additions.
When the announced that an arms character was the first fighter for fighter pass 2, I felt the same way for Rex or Pyra because I feel like it’s too late to announce an arms character but Rex or Pyra could have potential on getting. It would be cool to have a character with a defense spirit be in the game instead of fighter spirit.

geno will be the mario rpg rep not paper mario because geno is highly more requested than paper mario and we do not need another version of mario, also geno is owned by square-enix not Nintendo
The reason why a spirit would disprove a DLC fighter would be because they plannee all 5 DLC fighters (+ Piranha Plant) in advance, and would therefore hold back on that spirit until the character is released as DLC. But as season 2 of the DLC was announced and planned later on, all previous spirits are now available as DLC again. But newer spirits released are most likely not going to be DLC for the same reason.
My hope is some Kirby rep. Here are my top 5 Kirby reps that are important to the series and return in multiple entries that I would like to see in smash: 1. Dark Matter Swordsman (2 Major appearances, great moveset potential, tons & tons of references, and has a good foundation on pretty much what all evil villains are made of in the lore.) I would love to see dark matter and meta knight duke it out to see which knight is better. 2. Galacta Knight (at least 5-6 major appearences, unique enough to not be an echo as he has a lance, pretty much referenced if not a major role in every game after debut.) Same thing as dark matter except he is known as the strongest knight in the galaxy and uses a lance and shield so would be really cool to see especially if his theme makes it in too. 3. Magolor (at least 1 major appearance but had been a supporting character in pretty much all games since, good potential for moveset... Only issue might be making him less overpowered though he never was super powerful in his basic form so they can definitely work with it. Having his OP form as a final smash.) Perfectly represents an evil villain from the modern Kirby era that for some reason isn't represented in smash. Sakurai must not like modern Kirby games for some reason. Either way magolor is not only a fan favorite but also new enough to be important in smash akin to Isabelle in a way. 4. Bandana Waddle Dee (has been in 10+ games as a major character with actual story progression and even character depth. The right hand man to king dedede and uses a spear which can be fun moveset wise. You can even throw in the parasol for variety.) Most requested mostly because he's the 4th main character to king dedede, meta knight, and Kirby and also he isn't a villain. It's actually weird for a Kirby fan to play smash without him. He's kinda of a staple now and not just a pirahna plant or toad. I'm surprised pirahna plant even got a spot before him since he debut as a main character in the same game as magolor in 2012 and only has grown year by year. 5. Daroach (has been in 3 games. Villain in 1, Playable in 1, and assist in 1. Can have a really interesting moveset being a thief and all. The only other thief would be joker and I think daroach fighting joker would be cool as there isn't many thieves in smash.) This is my personal pick and isn't necessarily a huge fan favorite like the other 3 or 4 (idk if people like dark matter that much but I choose him because he has best moveset potential.) That is what I want to see of a Kirby rep was added although I do think all 5 of these characters should be added. Idk maybe they will introduce a Kirby only fighters pass where they will add a ton of stuff Kirby related do to how much Kirby actually gets shafted in the last 2 smash games over the last 10+ years. That would be cool but even just one would be great especially if it's something modern Kirby related as nothing from any games past 2008 (if you count the galacta knight recolor of meta knight) has been represented. Even the stages amount to only getting as far as the SNES super star even the boss they choose in world of light was from super star. They could do so many stages like another dimension from 2012 return to dreamland, some 2016 planet robobot stage, or even the beanstalk from triple deluxe in 2013. Or even Star allies, Mass Attack, Amazing Mirror, Squeak Squad, or Canvas Curse stages would be super awesome to see. Let alone music they are missing a lot of tracks I'm surprised aren't in smash like galacta knight theme, mind in a program, song of supplication, masked dedede, and more. They only got 1 song from star allies and even less from some other titles. All I'm saying is there is a lot to work with in the Kirby series yet it feels like less than a second thought so if any Kirby character gets added that would be great. My goodness dude, probably the best prediction video and/or most thoughtful I've watched. The guidelines are greatly appreciated especially the being flexible one, since a lot of characters have opportunities to get in. I just started dragalia lost a couple days before I watched this video and I think euden would be a great addition! Also others like paper Mario, rex, etc. Would be pretty cool too. I'd say there's gonna be at least one or two more first parties in the pass, and my most wanted is a botw2 rep. Maybe Zelda if she's unique enough, but maybe the champions descendents or something of the like

Though I could see Euden being more likely to score a Mii Swordfighter costume over being a full new character.
There's one first party character you forgot about, someone who's been getting a lot of buzz lately: MY BOY WONDER RED! Before you say anything, despite the fact the remaster is getting a PS4 and PC port, Wonderful 101 is still a Nintendo owned first party IP. While Platinum did create it's concept and made the game, Nintendo owns the rights to it. Nintendo let them port it to PS4 and PC if they got the funding for it, which of course they did and more. Plus you included Astral Chain, so it counts. Wonder Red has been highly requested since Smash 4. He's a superhero and we don't have any superhero characters outside of Captain Falcon somewhat, and he has the ability to use multiple different fighting styles by using the Unite Morph of the Wonderful Ones to make giant fists, swords, guns, whips, and more. He would be a really crazy character and his stage would be the Blossom City School Bus from the prologue. He would be so incredibly hype, bring so much new stuff to the table, AND DON'T FORGET THE ABSOLUTE AMAZING OST HE WOULD BRING!
Eh, keep in mind, Wonder Red's only real ability is the Unite Hand technique, with the other Unites being used exclusively by the other relevant Wonderful Ones. I question how a moveset featuring just the leader would even work.
Isnt it Nintendo making the decisions for who gets in for the 2nd fighters pass? So wouldnt that make some of Sakurais guidelines for what makes a Smash character obsolete?
There's another roadblock regarding Euden: the music. Almost none of the music is original in Dragalia Lost; all the songs are licensed music by Japanese pop idol DAOKO. This is a pretty big block because the way Smash handles music has been iffy, if Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest have proven. Music licensing especially in Japan is like jumping hurdles to make sure the expenses are paid for a worldwide release and if the full length of each song can be even used. Being J-Pop songs too? Oof. I know Ring a Ding is a song licensed by avex, but it still wasnt the full song (it's a mix of the first verse of both JP and EN version) and was the only song of its kind.
@@dr.ninjake I should correct myself in saying not all songs are by DAOKO, but regardless, TOYS FACTORY INC. are the ones who own the music and they've blocked a lot of songs from YT. Not all of them mind you but a good number of them are blocked due to that copyright issue. Since acquiring songs for a worldwide release is difficult enough, the sound selection would probably be pretty limited.

Toy Factory hasn't taken down any of the non-vocal themes, so tracks like the questing theme, vs. Agito, or vs. Leonida/Mars may not run into that issue. It would suck to not get any of the vocal themes, but as we've seen with Cloud and Hero it's a hurdle they're willing to jump if they want the character.
This has been a dream of mine for years. I know the series is pretty dead now, but there is so much fun potential in mech-type character flying around the stage.
Only bets for a potential 1st Party, imo are: -SwSh rep (Urshifu or Rillaboom please) -Xenoblade rep (Lora & Haze) -Dragalia Lost rep (Euden) The rest I doubt, though future titles like BOTW2 and Prime 4 having potential candidates are somewhat plausible
What are the chances the newcomer is someone from FF7R? It technically counts as a new game, as it adds plenty of new in-game and story mechanics, and has plenty of support/popularity considering that final fantasy 7 as a whole is one of the most popular games ever. Granted Square Enix is a little... clingy to say the least, but Sakurai managed to pull Cloud from their clutches (Most likely the chance of using Smash as promotion for Remake was too good an opportunity to pass up) and Sakurai could have hypothetically convinced them to lend a character as "promotion for part 2 of Remake" or something along those lines. Assuming this does happen, who could it be? Honestly, it would be kind of hard to pinpoint because almost all of the characters have something unique about them. I see it as an overall mechanic applying to final fantasy 7 characters as a whole whomever they chose by picking a weapon or some materia to spice up their moveset. Maybe the starting materia of each character would be their unique mechanic such as a magic spell associated with that character or, perhaps more excitingly, use their unique abilities. You have someone with a heavy emphasis on zoning with projectiles such as with Aerith who would be a mix between zoning and I guess "Utility" would be the apt term. She is a magic based character but like has some strong short/mid range options. Could swipe from a base set of elemental type materia in the mid of battle, opting for fire based moveset to then ice, thunder, and wind. Would just slightly alter animations when she changes materia and each move would have a different property such as foward tilt adding a fireball with fire and wind adding a vortex etc. (Would play the most similarily to Zelda to give you an idea but she probably would change enough with each materia change that it would feel like fighting a Zelda with 4 distict ish movesets. (Probably excel in neutral and have a hard punish game, but would require strong fundamentals to really be high tier) Or another option they could go for is just unique abilities giving her a move that siphons health from an opponent with Mana Drain, a short range powerful aoe blast with Sorcerous Storm, a long laser like projectile with Ray of Judgement or even areas of the stage where her atacks are boosted with ATB Ward or certain specials are boosted with either an additional attack or straight up damage increase with Mana Ward. Sephiroth is a fantastic pick as well. He would be a a swordie yes, but he would have exceptional range with his really long sword. He could use straight up magic as his character allows him to do so in story, but would most likely be like Cloud in that he shines with specials as far as visual and unique movesets go. He could have a move that impales like Corrin but acts like a command throw once the character is impaled, maybe have a meter that progressively increases the more successful you landa damage without taking damage yourself, in turn allowing him to increase damage and knockback on his move. That would make him excel in moments where you gain momentum. Maybe add super armor elements instead of raw damage to imitate his overpowering presence in the games, or just to hell it with it and give him options to give illusions and teleports like Ganondorf has in the Zelda games. Who knows this took much longer than it should have and im tired now

For Bandana Dee's stage, I can see Another Dimension making it in. It's the most consistent location throughout the modern Kirby games and is very striking. I can imagine the stage hazards being the impending wall and the Sphere Doomers.

Don't include all of the gatcha characters, or maybe even don't include any and make it completely standalone, and then bring those stand alone characters into the gatcha game. There’s a difference between a fan made rule and an unbroken pattern. No spirits have become fighters, neither have assist trophies. I don’t think either of these patterns will prove arbitrary.
Croationman True, but these patterns can be broken whenever Sakurai feels like doing so. Is it more unlikely to see a character get in if they fall under this pattern? Absolutely! But impossible? No. Patterns are very handy to predict off of but not wise to rely on. For instance, who would’ve thought King K. Rool, Joker, Banjo, Pichu, and Snake would’ve gotten in during speculation days? (Don’t even get me started on the Sans and Cuphead mii costumes, I’m still in shock)
@@nautilume7114 They can be broken. I see no good reason to make a character a fighter who's already in the game as an item, spirit, stage hazard, etc. It wouldn't make sense from a marketing perspective as it wouldn't be a surprise.

Croationman tbh Sakurai lives on anything besides patterns because he’s so unpredictable, I don’t think how he normally picks things is gonna stop him from bringing the game to the full potential. Chrom is still in Robin’s FS and he’s a Fighter, so I don’t think a Spirit or Assist would stop a certain character from coming. Also, things like this have already happened for Lucas and Mewtwo in 4, they could just add a new Fighter Spirit for that character like Lucas.
I definitely think we’re going to see more 1st Party characters in this DLC pass, at least 2 or 3 more I think. In terms of who I want for 1st Party Characters, Bandana Dee is still #1 for me, but I’m definitely unsure of who they’ll actually add.

Good video. The more recent Astral Chain and Ring Fit events make me doubt them, but would be happy with any of these characters really. My most wanted 1st party characters are Micaiah, Krystal and Isaac, although I don't really want to see the Smash community implode from having another Fire Emblem character so soon so maybe just the latter two!
I had an idea for Euden’s moveset. Since cooperation is such a big part of Dragalia Lost’s plot and gameplay, perhaps Euden’s moves could have Elisanne, Ranzal, Luca, and Cleo come in for assistance. They all have their own health bars on Euden’s UI, and if they’re damaged enough, they no longer assist until Euden gets another stock. For example, for Euden’s up special, He uses Blazing Circlet, but if Ranzal is alive, he shows up and uses Tornado Bash alongside Euden.

I'd seriously consider looking into Sylux. I really think he's got a more legit chance than most other First Party characters, and here's why:
Sylux isn't a big deal just yet, but there's no doubt he will be. Ever since he appeared as one of six playable hunters in a DS spinoff, the Metroid Prime series dev team has made it clear that they're nowhere near done with him. His return has been HEAVILY foreshadowed in both the 100% endings of MP3 and Federation Force, and the devs straight-up confirmed he'll be taking center stage in Prime 4. Not to mention, out of all the characters to debut in Hunters, he's easily the most fan-favorite, and may even be one of the most beloved characters in the series, depending on who you ask.
He's got amazing moveset potential, too. Just from his appearance in Hunters, we can see he uses powered armor similar to Samus's, a main weapon called the Shock Coil that can drain health from enemies, a Morph Ball-like Lockjaw form that can leave electric tripwires, and a plethora of other weapons he borrows from the other hunters for the game's Multiplayer mode. And that's just in one spinoff game; due to his upcoming central importance in a main series title, he's likely to get a huge update to his abilities, as well, giving him an insane amount of unknown potential that we as fans can't possibly fully imagine.
Now, all that may not guarantee him a roster spot (or even make it likely, really), but considering all of that, it's actually rather suspect he doesn't even have a Spirit in Smash Ultimate. It's not like they just forgot about Hunters, either; Trace and Kanden still have Spirits in the game, after all. Freaking Geemers - the Goombas of the Metroid series - even have a Spirit. Basic enemies and lesser hunters at least have Spirits, but not a fan-favorite, dev-beloved character slated to play a central role in the future of the franchise? Something's up, there.
My guess is he was planned for FP1, partially to help promote Prime 4, but when Prime 4's development restarted, the timing got all screwed up. I know you even said in this video that promotion isn't as big a factor as most people think it is, and I agree, but the only other explanation is that they just straight-up chose to completely exclude such a beloved and soon-to-be important character from the biggest crossover in gaming history. Frankly, I just don't buy that.
This makes perfect sense! There was a leak back before the DLC characters were revealed, which accurately predicted Joker, along with Banjo & Kazooie and a Square Enix rep. The leak also claimed Edelgard from FE: Three Houses would be DLC, but we instead got Byleth, which is sort of close. But the last character the leak claimed was *Sylux* from Metroid, and that's where things get interesting.
Metroid Prime 4 was supposed to be this huge game that was probably releasing during Fighters Pass 1, and of course Nintendo would put a character as DLC to promote it, just like Byleth promotes FE:3H, so it makes sense! Heck, there were even leaks and rumors of a Metroid Prime trilogy being released in 2019, but that never happened, most likely because the development got restarted, which was announced in January 2019. So Sylux being in FP1 isn't really far-fetched to speculate, and I also believe he got pushed back to FP2, so I'm hoping to see Sylux sometime next year!
Isabelle got added to sort of promote AC: New Horizons, Hero got added to promote Dragon Quest XI S on the Switch and push the franchise to the West, Byleth got added to push FE:3H sales, and ARMS rep is being added to either give ARMS a new life, upcoming DLC, or a sequel, although the first one makes the most sense to me, because it sold quite well in the beginning, but then the sales sort of stopped and supposedly not as many people are playing that game, and Nintendo wants people to play ARMS.
The question is, though, if Sylux was cut from FP1, _who_ replaced his slot?? My best guess is Terry Bogard, because even though Fatal Fury/King of FIghters were popular back in the day and SNK and Nintendo sort of have a history, the character wasn't fan-requested AFAIK, and the sales of the franchise were below average (SNK press conference from Dec 2018 reveals that KoF franchise has a total of _4 million sales_ and that's pretty low), so what's really the reason to include him? I'm thinking either SNK struck a deal with Nintendo to promote their franchise since they're trying to reclaim themselves as of late, OR Nintendo was in need of a replacement character ASAP and SNK are in the business of lending their IPs to others and have also worked with Nintendo to publish SNK Heroines on the Switch (which is why the physical edition is exclusive to Switch), so it was natural for them to approach them for the character quickly.

Sylux makes sense. I've always wished that Rundas from Prime 3 would get in since he is also popular among Metroid fans, but that's really unlikely since Rundas probably won't be in another Metroid game. I'd at least like his battle theme to be added to the OST.
As for the pokemon, I really don't want to see another damn starter evolution. I'd much rather have a new legendary, or even something out of left field, like Boltund or Flapple.
I don’t really think it’s be a starter since none of the starters really got any clout like Charizard or Greninja did. They kinda just came and went. It’s weird though because I can’t think of any regular Pokémon that got clout like Lucario either.
It's gonna be a starter (most likely Cinderace) or that Kung Fu bear. Pokemon always pushes a starter or a mythical or legendary Pokemon.
NixUniverse The best candidates I’ve kept in mind are Hatterene, Grimmsnarl, and Toxtricity. That said, I think the legendaries and starters have legitimate chances.
In the past hasn't Sakurai admitted to picking what was popular from the anime? Are their even any new Pokemon getting anime hype?
Luke Rabon The Galar anime is barely even on its first legs, there’s nowhere near enough to draw fan appeal from, especially considering how much in advance they’d have to decide the fighter.
The more I think about it, another gen 7 ‘mon might not actually be off the table. We’d presumably get gen 8 music alongside it, but it would also rectify the lack of US/UM content in the base game.
I know a helpful strategy: Think of games from every Nintendo series without music tracks featured in SSBU.
I would have agreed a few months ago but...Fire Emblem might've killed that potential theory already.

Sm4shifyer like I think looking at series without a music track in smash is a good idea, but fire emblem already had a ton of songs and we got a fire emblem character. Just saying I’m not gonna get my hopes up for all new franchises, but it is interesting to examine which franchises have the least representation so far.

lol while watching this video for the first time I checked my phone and saw the new trailer for paper mario origami kingdom. After finishing it I continued watching the video only to see paper mario be brought up a little later. I like how you were entertaining the idea of a new paper mario game being in the works, and possibly inspiring paper mario as a new character, and then 2 weeks after this video was made the confirmation was shadow dropped (about a new game, not paper mario being in smash).

If the Astral Chain protag did get in, they'd be referred to as Legionis, if you recall, Akira is very specifically the twin you DON'T play as, as such they'e not the one that gets the multiple Legions.

Imagine Rex & Pyra made into the game and have a semi-turnbase moveset like in Xenoblade Chronicles 2:
You play as Rex but Pyra is following you like Arsen follows Joker.
Aerials, Tils & Smashes are based on the auto-attacks of Rex.
Up-, Down- and Side-B are the 3 default special moves: Ankershot, Double spinnig Edge & Backslash. You can only use them after a sudden numbers of normal attacks like in the game.
Neutral B is Pyras Special: After each special move, you're charging the move from I: Flame Nova (quiet good) til IV: Burning Sword: really overpowered.
When you die, you lost your Neutral-B-Level.
It would be a really nice and fresh playstyle with a strong but risky comeback mechanic.

Vaati would be cool though he would be an obscure pick. Though tbh I think he has better moveset potential than skull kid and would probably be way more fun. I think there should be more villains in smash. Adding some Kirby villains wouldn't hurt either like magolor, dark matter, galacta knight, or the OG nightmare. Also porky from earthbound and waluigi should be in the game.
Vaati is a Spirit, though.
I'd like Vaati as well, but he hasn't been relevant in so long. He wasn't even in Hyrule Warriors. I'm not sure, but I wonder if Capcom partially owns Vaati since they developed the Four Swords games.
Months ago, just a few weeks after Byleth was avaliable a friend was comenting that in his opinion the aparience of the 5th character was probably switcheable between bylet and the astral chain protagonist. Meaning that the mechanicss were created to suit both and whoever (game) made better sales before the anouncement will be the final character and that's why byleth presentation was kinda rushed. At first I had my doubts about that, but playing it, and later when the spirits of astral chain were launched (specially the one with the huge bow), I had to admit that his idea has a lot of sense

First off I love your videos. Your fantastic at giving logical thought and analyzing trends and patterns and not just jumping on the popularity bandwagon(although sometimes they intersect, like with Rex for example). Secondly, anything fresh to the series is fantastic, that's why I'm so excited for an Arms rep, smash is finally getting it's Dhalsim type character that it has been missing for so long. Finally, I'd love to see Dixie Kong, Bandana Dee, and Ray(Custom Robo) join the battle as the Nintendo Characters, with Ryu Hayabusa(with stealth heavy gameplay) and Arthur(Ghosts and Goblins) join the roster for a fun balance of gameplay potential and Nintendo history.

I’m actually really glad you suggested Dragalia Lost in this video, I feel like most people look at it and say, “Oh it’s just a mobile game, there’s no way it could possibly make it into Smash.” I personally feel like Dragalia Lost can contend with console and PC games with how the gameplay feels. As someone who played it since launch day I definitely hold some biased opinions, but hey so does everybody else when it comes to Smash. I do feel like mentioning that even though it’s a gacha game, never have I ever spent real money just to do a 10 summon like how most other gacha games try to promote. I don’t want to ramble on too long but I would like to see Euden’s Final Smash be turning into High Midgardsormr and sending his opponents into a massive tornado, that would be so cool.

For starters, Waddle Dee is already a Spirit, so I think a proper example here is ARMS. All I can think of with ARMS is that we get one fighter and the rest of the 9 characters, as well as possibly Biff and Hedlok, become part of the DLC Spirit Board.

I think it would be dope to include a character that’s from Smash itself. Ultimate is already a big time celebration of gaming, but it’s never given itself a fair shake. Master Hand comes to mind if they somehow manage to scale him down, but even something like Tabuu would be an awesome callback. It’s super unlikely, but it can’t hurt to hope
Sorry, not happening. DLC was decided by Nintendo, and they're more business-oriented than Sakurai, so we're probably going to see characters that either serve Nintendo's own IPs well, or 3rd party IPs well. Adding Master Hand would be cool, but that can wait for the next installment of Smash as part of the base roster. :/

The Origami King! After seeing that there is a new Paper Mario game coming, it seems that something related to it might be more of a possibility! But I think personally that the villain of this new game might make a more interesting fighter than Paper Mario, especially if he incorporates origami into his move set somehow.

Since the announcement of XCDE, I've been leaning towards the idea of Melia joining the roster. It sounds weird, but hear me out: she's one of, if not the most popular character from Xenoblade, she's been given the starring role in Future Connected, which is essentially a brand new game, just like Torna. She has a wide variety of options for moves, like summoning ether, Mind Blast, attacking with her staff, stuff like that. And lastly, she's been given a new design completely different from her existing Smash Spirit, making it easy to keep her existing Spirit, and add her new look as the fighter Spirit you get for clearing her Classic Mode route.
If they just took the bandana dee moveset from ssf2 and put him in ultimate I’d be happy.

When the announced that an arms character was the first fighter for fighter pass 2, I felt the same way for Rex or Pyra because I feel like it’s too late to announce an arms character but Rex or Pyra could have potential on getting. It would be cool to have a character with a defense spirit be in the game instead of fighter spirit.

The reason why a spirit would disprove a DLC fighter would be because they plannee all 5 DLC fighters (+ Piranha Plant) in advance, and would therefore hold back on that spirit until the character is released as DLC. But as season 2 of the DLC was announced and planned later on, all previous spirits are now available as DLC again. But newer spirits released are most likely not going to be DLC for the same reason.

My hope is some Kirby rep.
Here are my top 5 Kirby reps that are important to the series and return in multiple entries that I would like to see in smash:
1. Dark Matter Swordsman (2 Major appearances, great moveset potential, tons & tons of references, and has a good foundation on pretty much what all evil villains are made of in the lore.) I would love to see dark matter and meta knight duke it out to see which knight is better.
2. Galacta Knight (at least 5-6 major appearences, unique enough to not be an echo as he has a lance, pretty much referenced if not a major role in every game after debut.) Same thing as dark matter except he is known as the strongest knight in the galaxy and uses a lance and shield so would be really cool to see especially if his theme makes it in too.
3. Magolor (at least 1 major appearance but had been a supporting character in pretty much all games since, good potential for moveset... Only issue might be making him less overpowered though he never was super powerful in his basic form so they can definitely work with it. Having his OP form as a final smash.) Perfectly represents an evil villain from the modern Kirby era that for some reason isn't represented in smash. Sakurai must not like modern Kirby games for some reason. Either way magolor is not only a fan favorite but also new enough to be important in smash akin to Isabelle in a way.
4. Bandana Waddle Dee (has been in 10+ games as a major character with actual story progression and even character depth. The right hand man to king dedede and uses a spear which can be fun moveset wise. You can even throw in the parasol for variety.) Most requested mostly because he's the 4th main character to king dedede, meta knight, and Kirby and also he isn't a villain. It's actually weird for a Kirby fan to play smash without him. He's kinda of a staple now and not just a pirahna plant or toad. I'm surprised pirahna plant even got a spot before him since he debut as a main character in the same game as magolor in 2012 and only has grown year by year.
5. Daroach (has been in 3 games. Villain in 1, Playable in 1, and assist in 1. Can have a really interesting moveset being a thief and all. The only other thief would be joker and I think daroach fighting joker would be cool as there isn't many thieves in smash.) This is my personal pick and isn't necessarily a huge fan favorite like the other 3 or 4 (idk if people like dark matter that much but I choose him because he has best moveset potential.)
That is what I want to see of a Kirby rep was added although I do think all 5 of these characters should be added. Idk maybe they will introduce a Kirby only fighters pass where they will add a ton of stuff Kirby related do to how much Kirby actually gets shafted in the last 2 smash games over the last 10+ years. That would be cool but even just one would be great especially if it's something modern Kirby related as nothing from any games past 2008 (if you count the galacta knight recolor of meta knight) has been represented. Even the stages amount to only getting as far as the SNES super star even the boss they choose in world of light was from super star. They could do so many stages like another dimension from 2012 return to dreamland, some 2016 planet robobot stage, or even the beanstalk from triple deluxe in 2013. Or even Star allies, Mass Attack, Amazing Mirror, Squeak Squad, or Canvas Curse stages would be super awesome to see. Let alone music they are missing a lot of tracks I'm surprised aren't in smash like galacta knight theme, mind in a program, song of supplication, masked dedede, and more. They only got 1 song from star allies and even less from some other titles.
All I'm saying is there is a lot to work with in the Kirby series yet it feels like less than a second thought so if any Kirby character gets added that would be great.

My goodness dude, probably the best prediction video and/or most thoughtful I've watched. The guidelines are greatly appreciated especially the being flexible one, since a lot of characters have opportunities to get in. I just started dragalia lost a couple days before I watched this video and I think euden would be a great addition! Also others like paper Mario, rex, etc. Would be pretty cool too. I'd say there's gonna be at least one or two more first parties in the pass, and my most wanted is a botw2 rep. Maybe Zelda if she's unique enough, but maybe the champions descendents or something of the like

There's one first party character you forgot about, someone who's been getting a lot of buzz lately:
MY BOY WONDER RED!
Before you say anything, despite the fact the remaster is getting a PS4 and PC port, Wonderful 101 is still a Nintendo owned first party IP. While Platinum did create it's concept and made the game, Nintendo owns the rights to it. Nintendo let them port it to PS4 and PC if they got the funding for it, which of course they did and more. Plus you included Astral Chain, so it counts.
Wonder Red has been highly requested since Smash 4. He's a superhero and we don't have any superhero characters outside of Captain Falcon somewhat, and he has the ability to use multiple different fighting styles by using the Unite Morph of the Wonderful Ones to make giant fists, swords, guns, whips, and more. He would be a really crazy character and his stage would be the Blossom City School Bus from the prologue. He would be so incredibly hype, bring so much new stuff to the table, AND DON'T FORGET THE ABSOLUTE AMAZING OST HE WOULD BRING!

Isnt it Nintendo making the decisions for who gets in for the 2nd fighters pass? So wouldnt that make some of Sakurais guidelines for what makes a Smash character obsolete?
There's another roadblock regarding Euden: the music. Almost none of the music is original in Dragalia Lost; all the songs are licensed music by Japanese pop idol DAOKO. This is a pretty big block because the way Smash handles music has been iffy, if Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest have proven. Music licensing especially in Japan is like jumping hurdles to make sure the expenses are paid for a worldwide release and if the full length of each song can be even used. Being J-Pop songs too? Oof. I know Ring a Ding is a song licensed by avex, but it still wasnt the full song (it's a mix of the first verse of both JP and EN version) and was the only song of its kind.
Dragon of Kansai including all of the Piano and boss fight themes? Even just getting Volk’s theme would be amazing.
@@dr.ninjake I should correct myself in saying not all songs are by DAOKO, but regardless, TOYS FACTORY INC. are the ones who own the music and they've blocked a lot of songs from YT. Not all of them mind you but a good number of them are blocked due to that copyright issue. Since acquiring songs for a worldwide release is difficult enough, the sound selection would probably be pretty limited.

Toy Factory hasn't taken down any of the non-vocal themes, so tracks like the questing theme, vs. Agito, or vs. Leonida/Mars may not run into that issue. It would suck to not get any of the vocal themes, but as we've seen with Cloud and Hero it's a hurdle they're willing to jump if they want the character.
Akira would sure be an untimely character to release...
I'd honestly like to see Ray from Custom Robo adapted into Smash

What are the chances the newcomer is someone from FF7R? It technically counts as a new game, as it adds plenty of new in-game and story mechanics, and has plenty of support/popularity considering that final fantasy 7 as a whole is one of the most popular games ever. Granted Square Enix is a little... clingy to say the least, but Sakurai managed to pull Cloud from their clutches (Most likely the chance of using Smash as promotion for Remake was too good an opportunity to pass up) and Sakurai could have hypothetically convinced them to lend a character as "promotion for part 2 of Remake" or something along those lines.
Assuming this does happen, who could it be? Honestly, it would be kind of hard to pinpoint because almost all of the characters have something unique about them. I see it as an overall mechanic applying to final fantasy 7 characters as a whole whomever they chose by picking a weapon or some materia to spice up their moveset. Maybe the starting materia of each character would be their unique mechanic such as a magic spell associated with that character or, perhaps more excitingly, use their unique abilities.
You have someone with a heavy emphasis on zoning with projectiles such as with Aerith who would be a mix between zoning and I guess "Utility" would be the apt term. She is a magic based character but like has some strong short/mid range options. Could swipe from a base set of elemental type materia in the mid of battle, opting for fire based moveset to then ice, thunder, and wind. Would just slightly alter animations when she changes materia and each move would have a different property such as foward tilt adding a fireball with fire and wind adding a vortex etc. (Would play the most similarily to Zelda to give you an idea but she probably would change enough with each materia change that it would feel like fighting a Zelda with 4 distict ish movesets. (Probably excel in neutral and have a hard punish game, but would require strong fundamentals to really be high tier) Or another option they could go for is just unique abilities giving her a move that siphons health from an opponent with Mana Drain, a short range powerful aoe blast with Sorcerous Storm, a long laser like projectile with Ray of Judgement or even areas of the stage where her atacks are boosted with ATB Ward or certain specials are boosted with either an additional attack or straight up damage increase with Mana Ward.
Sephiroth is a fantastic pick as well. He would be a a swordie yes, but he would have exceptional range with his really long sword. He could use straight up magic as his character allows him to do so in story, but would most likely be like Cloud in that he shines with specials as far as visual and unique movesets go. He could have a move that impales like Corrin but acts like a command throw once the character is impaled, maybe have a meter that progressively increases the more successful you landa damage without taking damage yourself, in turn allowing him to increase damage and knockback on his move. That would make him excel in moments where you gain momentum. Maybe add super armor elements instead of raw damage to imitate his overpowering presence in the games, or just to hell it with it and give him options to give illusions and teleports like Ganondorf has in the Zelda games. Who knows this took much longer than it should have and im tired now
