Love the camera, have a iiif myself. Loved the part of how Leica saved many Jewish people. You are a great narrator too, than you.

Thank you for sharing. Enjoyed watching it. I have digital and film M bodies but still like the screw mount models purely due to its small size and beautiful design. Learnt how to bulk load and to develop my own films during the lockdown so will definitely take more photos with the film cameras.

Chuck! I use my iiif whenever I need a small and durable 35mm camera. I note that you are using a viewfinder mounted on the top plate. Did you know that there is an accessory that allows one to mount a small light meter beside it? It's a bracket with two slots, one for the meter and one for the viewfinder. This is especially useful if you frequently shoot with a wide angle, I.e., 35mm, lens.

You can use your smart phone with a light meter app that works fine. Once you have a light reading, you have a frame of reference that you can work from. Read light in the shadows, your highlights will be two stops down for bright light (a little more for bright surfaces). One stop for over cast.

What book did you read? I would be curious to learn a little more of the history as well.

Excellent video I love these old leica's they are so well built no plastic etc.
And gives you time to think about your photography rather than today's automatic everything.

Good evening. Just watched your Very interesting video. I've been shooting Film for over 40+ years, mostly Nikon Manual SLR'S FM2N, FE,FE2,F3HP. I'M not a Rich Man! Its taken a lot of Graft and a lot of Saving. My lenses are All Primes, which again, took a Long time and saving. As my Age along with Health Problems, i feel i need to Lighten the Load .So, i too would Love to get into The Rangefinder Style. Leica, of course. You're absolutely Correct, with reference To the Jews Barnark saved. Not many Leica owners actually Know of this Fact. Great Camera as is your Great Video. Kind regards Colyn. Have a great New Year.

I love my Leica iC paired with the 50 3.5 Elmar or 35mm Summaron. I went from a nearly complete Nikon SP kit to now owning my first Leica, and couldn’t be happier. Smaller, operates better in my opinion, and creates beautiful leica quality images.

They really are great little shooters.
I want to get a Voigtlander super wide on mine one day to use with an auxiliary viewfinder. I think this set up will be as usable as a pre light meter M series leica.

This has also the flash modification only available after the introduction of the IIIf. So at one time is was modified in Wetzlar. And probably had a revision as well. From the orginal leather on the back you can see that this camera did not have seen much use. It also looks like your Summar had got some coating on it as well. Only done - by various companies, including Leitz - just after the 40’s as well.

The IIIb was also the last of the true Barnack Leicas, the next model the IIIc introduced a new single piece die cast chassis that would also feature on the post war F and G series cameras.

Could it be modified by inserting that quick loading spool like in M4?
    That would be just ideal

Looks like a Leica SBOOI, which is a 50mm (or "5cm" in older models) viewfinder. I use one myself on my IIIf. It's really bright and clear, and you can shoot easily with both eyes open.

What kind of external viewfinder attached to your Leica III?

    • @chucksavage3712

Just a Leitz 50mm frameline which is bigger and brighter.
