makes me also sad having recently seen the chinese biycycle graveyard video from dw news. but amazing what a cheap simple increase in mobility can do for the quality of like. bang for buck!
How funny. Come back later and see the women marching back to the market and the men cycling around the village... (i know what i am talking about... We did supply some bycicles ,and it happened.)
So she's making $45/month now, but has to pay $10/month to rent a bike? That seems expensive, especially as a proportion of her income - though I realize she's still making more than before. Also, what is meant by "$10 a month, spread over a year"? Doesn't that just mean $10 a month?
It means the total cost of the bike is $120, they are paying $10 a month and after the year they own the bike and mobile phone outright. Although I agree, that is too expensive when you can get second-hand bike for much cheaper, though these bikes look brand new and robust, probably needed due to their poor infrastructure. Overall it's wonderful and bikes can change the world, both in developed and developing countries
Bicycles empower people all over the world, in many different ways, in many different cultures they're a powerful positive force !
