We had several Easy Bake Ovens because my son (born in '91) wanted to be a chef. He was around 8 years old. I remember being kinda pissed because they were ALL pink and girly, as if boys wouldn't want something like this. I think I even emailed the company, complaining about this lol. My son didn't care that much, he just wanted to learn to "cook". After a couple years, he outgrew these and began ACTUALLY cooking in our kitchen (always with supervision), finding recipes in my old Betty Crocker cookbook. In middle school, the students had an assignment where they picked their future career and then do a presentation in front of the class. My son still wanted to be a chef so the teacher worked it out to where he could use the school kitchen. He had to create his own recipe and bring the ingredients and then he was able to bake it in the school's kitchen (again, with supervision by the teacher and kitchen staff). He created a DELICIOUS cookie recipe so the entire class could enjoy his creation! He got an A!!! In high school, he wanted to go to the cooking school/college after graduation.
my grandma remembers a small controversy with them when they first came out (they were yellow and the green) that they could be mistaken as a boys toy and it was said it was propaganda against the patriarchy and how it was with men working and women cooking and cleaning. but she also loves in a really small religious town that was against woman in the work force for a really long time

I had Sky Dancers in the 90s and they were my FAVORITE thing. I get such a nostalgic feeling seeing one and thinking about them. lol I'd love to have one of the original ones from the 90s! Mine always ended up flying up onto the roof of my house and we'd have to wait for a pretty heavy storm or strong wind for it to be blown down from the roof. 🤣 I'm not sure what kids were doing with them to get hurt, it sounds pretty ridiculous, I played with mine quite a bit and was never injured. The stupid ones always ruin it for the rest of us. When I say "the stupid ones", I don't just mean the kids. A lot of those injuries were most likely parents buying them for kids who were way too young to have them. They probably thought, "Eh, what could possibly happen. They only rate things like this to cover their asses." Then when their kid gets hurt, it's all the manufacturers fault. 🙄
The thing is --- A kids' toy shouldn't have the ability to do *that* big of damage when you're playing with it in the way it's supposed to be played with -- Especially without warning that that's what that can do So I can't exactly blame the parents for filing a complaint about it -- And it helps to warn others of it as well (though it does kinda seem like common sense that it has the ability to hurt you and to be careful around it -- but it wasn't always the family who was the victim but others {as explained below} but again, if it wasn't, I feel it should've been warned that it can do *that* much damage -- and then they wouldn't have to really worry abt the complaints considering they yk -- warned you) The problem, I'm guessing, was that the wings were to sharp And the problem, I'm also guessing, was that they'd go to the park or outside to play with it (which it seems it was a bit complicated inside) and people were around and it flew into them Cause, as we've seen or experienced, it does have a way with going out of control or flying to far and things like that But it seems it can still be played with safely They did warn you on the package to make sure people are aware when you're playing with it and to keep it away from pets by the least But yeah -- I do feel like it could've been made more safely or somethin'
I was playing with mine in my room one night and accidentally shot it too high it flew up hit my ceiling fan and rebounded smacking me really hard in the face. felt like a punch lol. It hurt. I didn’t tell my mom because the recall was all over the news about the 100+ accidents and she would have taken it away. Never had any other injuries with it though.
Same. My Sky Dancer was the one who got injured. My friends would try to play with it indoors after I said not to and one did get a minor ouchie but honestly that's user error 😅 they relied way too much on kids having common sense and playing with it safely. I only was cautious because I didn't get a lot of stuff as a kid and I didn't want it to get damaged 😂
I CACKLED when I heard "the most dangerous toy" and then looked to the timestamp to see Sky Dancers lmao my friends and I used to play a twisted game of chicken with those things. They were scarily accurate at finding targets
Living for this! Here’s some suggestions for a pt 2(some aren’t actually discontinued) Hit Clips! The Password Phone! Tamagotchi! Pretty Pretty Princess! McFlurry Maker! I promise the McFlurry maker will turn out better than the malt maker 😊
In regards to the "Shrinky Dinks," you can make your own by taking the top of a clear plastic food container (like the kind you get pre-made salad in) color a picture with tempura paints, cut out the picture and put on a cookie sheet in a preheated 250° oven for a few minutes. They will shrink! I poked holes in my cut-out drawing (rabbit ears) before shrinking and made wired earrings. 😀
I have one currently I've burned my hand so many times on the tray because I didn't know how to use it I'm making one of the cookies with my easybake as I write this comment :)

I need to get one to use with my grandkids!

I remember when sky dancers first came out, they were SOOO popular. One year I had a birthday party and I got five which were all the same! 🤣 Me and my brothers used to battle them, it wasn't very elegant to say the lease. Great throw backs, Hope!
i looked it up, and here is why peel a pops where banned! in 2006, british grocery chain tesco anounced that it would be discontinuing its line of peel a pop products due to "poor sales". the company had introduced the line of pre-peeled and poped fruit snacks in 2003, but it failed to gain traction with consumers. some speculated that the high price point may have been one reason for the poor sales.
Correct, the hard candies are the reason wonder ball got around the ban. The issue is non edible items inside. It was the same issue with regular kinder eggs, we can get them but they are not the same as the legitimate German ones. They’re pretty much completely different then the German ones.
@@dilepii7097The kinder eggs in the US have a double sided egg container where the toy is packaged on one side and the chocolate is on the other. It’s something about toys being imbedded in the chocolate that’s not ok at least back then idk cuz I know there are other brand ones sold with a capsule that the toy is in.
It’s fun seeing Hope in the kitchen. Those tiny pizzas definitely looked sketchy 😅 but that Peel a Pop idea for recreating it was amazing! I think I vaguely remember those sour Altoids too. I never had an easy bake oven growing up but I do remember always making the Betty Crocker box cakes in elementary school and bringing it to school to share with my classmates or to just eat at home for myself 😆
Up until 1997, the WonderBall (it was called Nestle Magic Ball for a while before that) used to contain little Disney figurines and other plastic toys. There was a really old law here in the US that bans candy from having toys inside because of chocking hazard, but mainly the Mars company (a rival candy company) filed a lawsuit to get the WonderBall banned. So they started selling the WonderBall again in 2000, but with candy pieces inside instead of a toy. The law about having toys or trinkets imbedded inside candy is one of the reasons that Kinder Surprise eggs are still illegal in the USA. About ten or eleven years ago, a couple of guys from Seattle came back into the US from Vancouver and were detained at the border because border patrol guards found 6 Kinder Surprise eggs in their car. They confiscated the eggs and let them go, but they were told that they could have faced a $2,500 fine per egg. And that's also why we can only get the Kinder Joy branded egg things that have the toy and the chocolate in separate compartments of the packaging here in the US.
Girl you’ve unlocked a core memory with that what’s her face doll and the sky dancer!!! I had them when I was a baby and I LOVED them! The sky dancer was my favorite. The WHF doll my sister used to steal it from me and hide pieces of it or take it’s face off so it would creep me out. Lol siblings are really born to terrorize. What a fun video! When I first started working full time in my career I was making a really nice salary for my age at the time and I started shopping on eBay for things that I either never got as a kid or had and missed, I rebought 2 N64s, one for me and one for my older sister, plus a ton of games (which rocks cause I paid $30 for 2 mint condition consoles and controllers in like 2011 then by 2015-16 people were selling them for hundreds when 90s nostalgia got big) and a bunch of older toys, I have a whole shelf dedicated to my childhood toys, including a sky dancer, and my rugrats reptar van with craft stuff and little figures of the babies in it! Being an adult is great some times haha
I had a Sky Dancer back in the day and loved it (her base was a bouquet, which I still remember to this day in my mind's eye). I had no idea it had been discontinued due to cases of injury. I did my best to be careful when I made her fly. I wish they still made them, along with the original Polly Pocket (I had two houses and a church; the last would light up). I miss being a kid of the 90s-2000s.
@@shirahime23 I think you had April Blossom. She came with the green flower launcher. I still have my Crystal Blossom and Ivy Rose twin pack in the original box! My sister and I still have a box of our Polly Pockets too. 90s toys were the best.
My little sister had a Skydancer as a child, and it was used as a weapon. The number of forehead cuts it gave me are too high to count. The Poo-chi also kept me up at night with its random noises. 😂

It was actually pretty cool 1960’s toy. It looked like a real stove and oven. In mint green.
Literally just came here to talk about how much I looooooovvvvvvveeeddd the Sky Dancers as a kid!!!!! The toy and the show!!! Yes. Yes there was a show. I only had a DVD that had a few episodes, but let me tell you I would rewatch that over and over, clutching my Sky Dancer in my hands!!!! I wish I remembered what happened to her..... 😢
My sister and I played with our sky dancers for so many years! They were so fun!
My daughter had one too
I was born in '89 and had a sky dancer when was like 5.. I cherished her so much!! As I was watching I kept wanting to be like pull the string SLOWLY a lil bit at first lol I unfortunately don't know what happened to mine either :( def one of my favorite memories as a kid!!
I had no idea there was a show hahaha I honestly had way too much fun with that one!!

Is he a chef?! This is so sweet 🥰
Did he go on to be a chef?
I’m invested … did he become a chef? Xx
The original Easy Bake Oven was released in 1969 and it was Yellow
my grandma remembers a small controversy with them when they first came out (they were yellow and the green) that they could be mistaken as a boys toy and it was said it was propaganda against the patriarchy and how it was with men working and women cooking and cleaning. but she also loves in a really small religious town that was against woman in the work force for a really long time

I'm not sure what kids were doing with them to get hurt, it sounds pretty ridiculous, I played with mine quite a bit and was never injured. 🙄
The thing is --- A kids' toy shouldn't have the ability to do *that* big of damage when you're playing with it in the way it's supposed to be played with -- Especially without warning that that's what that can do
So I can't exactly blame the parents for filing a complaint about it -- And it helps to warn others of it as well (though it does kinda seem like common sense that it has the ability to hurt you and to be careful around it -- but it wasn't always the family who was the victim but others {as explained below}
but again, if it wasn't, I feel it should've been warned that it can do *that* much damage -- and then they wouldn't have to really worry abt the complaints considering they yk -- warned you)
The problem, I'm guessing, was that the wings were to sharp
And the problem, I'm also guessing, was that they'd go to the park or outside to play with it (which it seems it was a bit complicated inside) and people were around and it flew into them
Cause, as we've seen or experienced, it does have a way with going out of control or flying to far and things like that
But it seems it can still be played with safely
They did warn you on the package to make sure people are aware when you're playing with it and to keep it away from pets by the least
But yeah -- I do feel like it could've been made more safely or somethin'

I used to be obsessed with the easy bake! That just brought back memories. Ah, the good old days.. btw thanks for being amazing!
i looked it up, and here is why peel a pops where banned!
in 2006, british grocery chain tesco anounced that it would be discontinuing its line of peel a pop products due to "poor sales". the company had introduced the line of pre-peeled and poped fruit snacks in 2003, but it failed to gain traction with consumers. some speculated that the high price point may have been one reason for the poor sales.

Congrats on 3 million 🎉 thank you for all the positivity you bring to all of us 🤍🌷
Correct, the hard candies are the reason wonder ball got around the ban. The issue is non edible items inside. It was the same issue with regular kinder eggs, we can get them but they are not the same as the legitimate German ones. They’re pretty much completely different then the German ones.
Kinder eggs are italian, Yours don't have the yellow-plastic-eggy thing inside Maybe?
@@dilepii7097The kinder eggs in the US have a double sided egg container where the toy is packaged on one side and the chocolate is on the other. It’s something about toys being imbedded in the chocolate that’s not ok at least back then idk cuz I know there are other brand ones sold with a capsule that the toy is in.
@@dilepii7097 Nahhh
It’s fun seeing Hope in the kitchen. Those tiny pizzas definitely looked sketchy 😅 but that Peel a Pop idea for recreating it was amazing! I think I vaguely remember those sour Altoids too. I never had an easy bake oven growing up but I do remember always making the Betty Crocker box cakes in elementary school and bringing it to school to share with my classmates or to just eat at home for myself 😆
Da EASY BAKE OVEN ? Wow i need that for cooking lessons and eat easy food all of my life !
OH MY GOSH I was obsessed with the sky dancers!! I had at least 5 of them - I had no idea they were banned 😂😂
Here in the uk we still have kinder eggs.
@@waluebrthat’s because are kids aren’t always super bright here… 😂
