- Hiking the Wainwrights - S4-Ep05: Cold Pike and Pike O' Blisco
There's no day like a SNOW DAY! We seldom get proper Alpine days here in the Lake District so when we do it's a real treat and chores are shelved in favour of rugging up and getting out.
Join Finn and me as we tackle the aptly named Cold Pike and the wonderful summit of Pike O' Blisco. This was a surprisingly tough day that taxed us both due to the refreezing of the snow but that still didn't take away from the sheer joy of being alive and out in the mountains!

I discovered your channel two months ago. I watch one episode each day. It is impossible to express how you (and Finn) have changed my life. When I hear that beautiful piano introduction a surge of emotional bliss overwhelms me. When you describe the beautiful scenery with words like gorgeous, exciting, amazing, stunning, spectacular, and bliss in that wonderful accent, it makes me feel cheerful for the rest of the day. Please continue to make your videos in the same format. With grateful thanks.
This is Kevin Clements. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your beloved Cumbria . S.T. Coleridge penned a poem named Hymn before Sunrise which a poet friend tells us was actually written after Coleridge experienced a moment of terror as he found himself trapped on a cliff while climbing Scafell Pike alone . Fear and epiphany both came in the same moment as he was forced to notice the sky , clouds , and crags which he found himself surrounded by . I too had such an experience while climbing . thx , Kevin Clements
Great video Glenn. And Finn is such a pup star!
I loved winter yomps in the hills. This is a fantastic reminder of my time on the fells. Thank you so much for all you do , and the Fin meister too bless her.
God Bless you Sir!
I am lying in my bed watching the best of England and its all because of you.
Thank you xxx
Well just when I thought that little Finnmeister 🐶🐕❤couldn't look any cuter 😂😂❤ lovely day.of weather for this walk ! Some terrific scenery 👌
Absolutely brilliant video again Glenn, love the way you talk to the Herdies!!!!! Such a great walk that, you can't beat getting up there early and Beating the crowds.... 👌 Thank you. 🙏Xx
Finn os 11 !!!! WoW ! Bless her little heart 🥰
The sound of your boots walking in the snow is lovely. Makes me imagine I am walking in the snow. Living in the south we don’t get snow that often.
What a fantastic winter wonderland. Absolutely stunningly beautiful scenery from all angles. Little Finn what a superhero caped crusader she is. She's a little gem and at eleven years of age don't you think she's ready for her bus pass?🐶💕🐕💕 Thanks for sharing this heartwarming video on a cold winters day. Much appreciated.
Absolutely epic video Glenn..stunning views...amazing...one of the best you've ever done...Finn was in her element...😁👍
I ❤ finn with all of my heart
Got to love the lakes. Thank you for another lovely Sunday night video buddy.
Wat a beautiful tribute to Winter.
WOW 👌 Beautiful video Finn so cute ❤from Michigan
I love how you’ve put Finn in yellow so she’s visible!
Just an incredible adventure. You did have me worried about losing Finn down any hills!! They make boots for a small paws like hers?? Looks like she is going to need a big nap after that! Thanks for sharing! Love from the USA!!
Awesome and amazing walk thank you so much for taking us ! Hehe! 🤩✨❄️🏔️
Wow. Absolutely out of this world. What are people missing. Thank you for this. 😊
Another great video Glenn, absolutely loved it.I cannot wait for the next one.
Loved, loved, loved this. Really enjoying these longer videos, such a treat, thank you sooooo much. Can't wait for Scaffell 😬
Brilliant scenery my friend, this looks and feels stunning!
A fantastic video Glenn with lovely views. Finn looked like she loved every minute, if ever I get up there I would want her as my guide, she seems to know every inch of the walks. Thanks, Steve.
Stunning scenery Finn was enjoying it too looking forward to your accent of Scafell pike
My husband and I love your walks, your talking and your dog. You deserve much more describers.
Great video again glen enjoyed it a lot , finn is a bit special, hats off that looked hardwork in snow, i will be tuning in again next week for the big one , enjoy that beet you earned it ❤❤ Rave on mate,
Nice to hear you crunching through the deep snow to the Pike of Blisco, loving the hike. While I'm here I'd like to thank you for the superb photo (Sugar coated) from your selection of Magnificent photography on the web, really happy. Thank you very much. 👍🐾
That was amazing Glenn. I love it when you do the point of view shots as I feel like it’s me doing the walk 😄 Stunning, stunning!
❤❤❤ Beautiful. Love the snow. I love Finn. She reminds me of my dogs so much. 2 of my Jack Russells/Parsons Russells came from the Windermere farms in England. I have Tobe, Leena & Piper. I love the name Finn. They hate their clothes also 😂😂
She's adorable 😍
Stay safe & warm!
At least Finn is in 4x4! Not dodgy at all lol! Well done you two ❤
Another quality video Glenn. It looks like Finnius Maximus had a splendid time. 😉🐾🐾
Thanks for sharing. 👍
Such a beautiful video (again). Utterly absorbed throughout.. So happy you’re back on the high fells again. 🙂 Hope little Finny had a good night’s sleep and woke up none the worse for wear.
Thank you , and can’t wait until the next video! xxx
What amazing views 🏞 the gorgeous Finn has seen got a good dad! 👍 x
The lake district just keeps on giving, so much I still dont know! Cheers. Such a lovely winter hike
Another fantastic Sunday video, awww we love little fin 🐶❤. These videos are definitely, such an inspiration to get out and get moving. Was out with buds 🐺 today trying to plan our route up onto pen-cerrig clach from another side of the range. But found another mountain ⛰️ I want to do as well, this channel is addictive 😁
They never complain. Great video, cheers😊
Your last 2 videos have been phenomenal, thank god your toe is healing and the snow arrived
Amazing video, inspirational, entertaining and educational. Thank-you Glenn👍
Another great day out Glenn and what I particularly found informative was the way you told of the conditions, equipment and mind-set for walking in full winter conditions. Some can come across as condescending but you explained it extremely well, so that those not familiar with such conditions could take some lessons without feeling that they are being judged. Must admit though that I was surprised that you didn't have an axe but micro spikes in those conditions, spot on even though I'm not a lover. Top film once again and such days only come along rarely in a winter. Cheers bud,
Icy walk, but the views are breathtaking!!! Thank you so much! Hope Finn got a good rest. - Ontario Canada
Cracking episode. Loved it xxxx
Excellent video. I loved the shadow shot of you and Finn in the snow.
Amazing views. Thanks for letting us be part of this walk. Looking forward to doing this pair soon with crinkle crags thrown in as well
Wonderful footage, looked tough but ultimately rewarding for those views 👌👍
Wow. Didn't know that they had had that much snow. Lovely video
Fantastic snowy trip, what would it be like to camp on Blisco in the snow! 👍❄️😎
I have a suggestion... your videos of land scapes and pictures are amazing and so is your editing. Maybe try a silent "relaxing" video with soft music a collaboration of your best pieces it would go down a treat on this platform I know I'd love it
Another good one this. Did Pike o Blisco and Cold Pike last February, cheated though as parked at top of Wrynose. Did those 2 in the morning then Harter Fell in afternoon. Great day. Watched another channel yesterday Bushman and Blue, they were on Blisco, but slightly windier and not as pretty 😂
Definitely one of my favourite valleys to base myself in. Can't wait to be back. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Wooow, as usual, totally stunning scenery with Glenn's marvelous voice and utterly adorable Finfinn who was doing amazingly considering how cold her little feet must have been, she's such a little trooper and she blended in the snowy landscape had it not been for her Hi-viz.
Nothing better than a relaxing beautiful Black Crag video on a Sunday evening, before facing the grim reality of work on Monday ❤
It is a risk for little toe’s getting frost bite 😳
@@chrissyplanteater2892 yes, I'm surprised she didn't have little doggy boots on to be fair. 😬
A dodgy walk to tone the toe back up…don’t think crampons would have complimented the healing process. Another Great video. Great footage
Wonderful little fin so funny my dog's won't wear the coats. Brilliant once again thank-you xx
Another great video, with Langdale at it best. Don't forget to get Finn some boots! 😊
Hi Glenn, absolutely amazing, what a stunning day and the views as far as the eye could see we’re just beautiful. Young Finneus is just amazing, what a super little doggy. Thanks as always for sharing both your adventures, all the best, Dave 😀🥾⛰🏴❄️
Was a little nerv wracking watching Finn on the way up but she did very very well. Awesome video. I love that sunlight on the snow
Beautiful 😍
Some spectacular and intimate views of the Crinkles, Bowfell and the Furness Fells. All fells I have yet to do🙏
Very much looking forward to Scafell. Hopefully with a bit of Lord's Rake action...? 🤞
Oh my word, that looked absolutely amazing.
Afternoon Craig
And thank you for a lovely snowy walk with fin look like she enjoyed herself to bless I love the walks you go on but I don’t think I could do the snow one so thank you for the walk Craig will be looking forward to the next one trace 😊
Amazing views! Finn was so good, glad you both made it back.
Great video bud fantastic conditions Fin is a superstar shame about the Drone but plenty of great footage....well done Marra 😊
ATVB Andy and ROCK STAR ⭐ 🙏
Epic - wall to wall gorgeous. Thanks for taking us along again. Fantastic job. ❤
More snow in the lakes than we had in Chamonix this weekend! Looks amazing!
Wow!!! Stunning. Well done both of you!
That's a stunner! I'd be nervous of going up there in all that snow so thanks for showing us what it's like!
What a beautiful place. I grew up in New England and I felt for for your ankles. I've come home from many a trek with scraped up ankles and calves from conditions like that. I love watching your videos before I go to bed. They are not boring me to sleep but they relax me, but then I want to watch another, and another and another and I don't get to sleep anyway. What a lovely kitchen you have
Stunning scenery !! Tha k you. Finn looks so comical when she hopps around in her yellow outfit 😊❤
excellent trip for you both. great vid
The Lake District looks beautiful whatever the weather
Fab-u-lous. Lovecthosecshots of Finn with her head on one side, looking at you and possibly thinking "what are you talking about Dad?". 😅
Madness, sheer madness
What an amazing video Glenn - thank you 👍🏻
Absolutely stunning 😍 I’m in the Lakes the week after next and really hope to see at least a little bit of snow, even though I know it will be fantastic whatever the weather 😊
is there anything more beautiful than the mountains in there winter cloak.
Haven't managed to get anywhere near snow for about 5 years (I'm in Scotland, go figure!) and I just wanted to say thanks, I watched this over dinner yesterday and I felt like I was there with you guys. Between this and Living The Van Life's recent snowy adventures I feel healed.😂
Excellent. What a wonderful hike..
Hello Glenn and Finn,a snowy hike today Finn looks so cute in his jacket he's enjoying the snow, stunning view of the sun on the snow covered mountains ,thanks for sharing stay safe and warm
WOW, stunningly beautiful scenery, cute doggie total chill out tv, thankyou for bringing the outside inside 😊❤
Classic video, Glenn. Loved this one. You, Finn and an awesome landscape. Perfect! xx
Listening to the wind blowing through the peaks I love. So remote. Seems a lot of people have already trudged through there seeing the footprints.
Wow another superb video, who needs the Alps when we've got the Lake District coverd in snow. Keep them coming Glenn.
Ice axe and trekking poles would have been a great help... remember them next time.😊
Thank you so enjoyed it 😊
I've experienced skidded many a time. Went the Dr's in the end. All sorted now. Lovely views.
Phenomenal video thank you so very much, absolutely loved it!!! One of your best ever!!! Finn did so well and I loved the Guiness pour at the end!!! Really Really Stunning !! (remember the crampons and ice axe next time - safety first!!)
I won’t get up there in those conditions but have been in summer thanks for the reminder of what it’s like and it’s better with the snow and blue sky.
Hi mate,
We must have missed each other by minutes. I was camping at Great Langdale (in a pod) and headed up to Stickle tarn before grabbing a pint in the ODG.
Right back to the video 🍺
Finn is very brave. Please get him a proper padded coat and maybe boots? I don’t know because I never wanted my doggie Jack Russell wearing them. But it must have been too cold for poor Finn 😔give him a hug from us 😃🐶🍗🥓🌭🍖 Thank you for the adventure!
Langdale the first place I really hiked as a lad, love the place, great video, amazing how u manage to catch the light so well on ur video 👍
Thanks for the upload , brilliant views 👍
That vid took me back many years , when winters were real . Tbh, I was a bit worried about Finn . I really think it was far too much and she must have got cold feet !!!.
You said there would be snow. Ah, just hearing you say this in this video. I'll be watching this later.
Lovely walk, plus BRRRRRRR!
Superb 👌 great video as always 👍
thanks for another walk
Thanks, very enjoyable as usual. Fin needs shoes!
Another superb film Glenn, definitely got me wanting to do some filming over in the Lakes, even though my channel is more of a Lancs walks theme. Great to see you walking up Great Hill on one of your other videos! Local spot for me.
Breathtaking - I have only experienced The Lakes in the snow a few times and loved it. Pillar from Buttermere and Striding edge must do’s for those seeking adventure. Can’t believe that was the road. Blea tarn used to be covered in those pines hopefully they (LDNP) will plant some more. I laughed at PoB summit when said the best view. I have an awesome photo in the snow looking over to Rossett pike crinkles, esk in the snow. It’s’ one of my fav summits although those large flat rock sections at the top are annoying at times. probably should have had your ice axe for the descent but you know that 🤭 Finn did well. So glad to see you back in the mountains where you belong. 😅 what a cracking route. Bet you slept well!
No place I’d rather be… Finn would rather be at home in front of the fire… me and Lou are thinking - beach in Barbados might give it a close run for its money 😂
Great video Glenn as ever. I’m camping in Eskdale/Wasdale for three days solo this weekend, really hoping the weather isn’t as crap as it is forecast 🤞🏼🤷🏻♂️
There’s always The Boot 😀🍻
A beautiful video
