Its hard to watch this show with today's way of thinking. Though the photography and costumes are very beautiful, the intent of making this women appear as villains feels despicable for me. None of them were really "bad", just driven by schemes inside a place full of mysogyny.

In history, it was expected of a good ruler to have a decent number of women for offspring and to not love any of them. It was said that lust would cause a man to lose his productivity and his eye for the big picture, and overly indulging in one woman would lead her and her family to influence state affairs, something considered perilous to the state. Having women but not loving them was something considered characteristic of a GOOD emperor.
This being said, the emperor in this drama is way too indiscreet with his preferences, and he leaves a bitter taste in people's mouth mainly because he seems to always put the blame on everyone else even when he himself is at fault. But then again, that's not a surprise coming from someone as privileged as he was and who was taught from a young age that he's great and destined to be great.

This is traditional clothing for the Imperial Family & their subjects, my dear. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, just don’t watch it. But it’s disrespectful & insulting, to say you “hate”, what a whole nation considers their honorable heritage.
You should know that Almost every Asian Drama will feature traditional attire, inspired by the actual clothing that their ancestors used for that particular dynasty. Only the sci-fi type of Kdrama, Cdrama, Jdrama. Will feature exaggerated costumes, that are very loosely inspired by real historical attire.
