Is 1$ a month too expensive to start investing?

It is not the point that its a dollar a month. The point is that overtime $12 a year adds up and if you're not giving me a return more than $12 that means I'm losing money. Plus I am advocate for knowing what's in your portfolio and having the power to take out companies that are not working for better ones that are. The only investment then I will take where control is somewhat difficult is an employee 401k or Roth IRA account. Even then if you just take the time most companies like mine have pretty good options available.

Freedom is important, depending on your goals and Management fees compound however fixed fees are better, and the more you grow that 1$ is less and less. Over a 40 year run that’ll cost you $480 bucks total

Yes! A person could go straight to Fidelity and invest in a zero net expense ratio Index mutual fund (FZROX) and get a year to date return that follows the entire stock market for free.

    • @luvclu
      @luvclu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes it is too expensive. I think I’ve been with them for three months so that’s three dollars in fees paid, and I’ve only made $.65 so not worth it so far.

If you only give 1 a month it's not worth it. Might as well not invest at all. In 1 year I saved up 1k.

I've been in acorns since 2018 I've invested so far about 1400 dollars in which I started from zero so it does work you just have to stick with and that's what I plan to do. Right now I have a total of about $700 between the acorn stock and the later account. Only reason why I pulled the money out the first time is because I had a emergency. Also $2 a month is not that much they pull it out from my bank account not from my stock investment account. Just stick with it and watch your money grow it does work you just have to stick with it...

Kavon Silas most ppl believe the market is due for a reset so you could lose it all the better strategy is to be conservative until after the crash/reset then be aggressive any gains you might make will most likely be wiped out so it would be better to have a bigger stash to invest when there is value and growth potential.

Listen this investing thing is the bomb and is absolutely better than nothing at all. That how ppl need to look at it esp those who just have a hard time saving. It’s so easy to spend money - every day we have to spend money to buy something and cos we are so used to it, it’s second nature. We spend spend spend which makes it extremely hard (so darn hard that some ppl just don’t know how to) save money. It is just mind blowing how much money can be made (can lose too but got to stick with solid companies) in the Market yet it’s the last place ppl shop at. (Since the pandemic more ppl have gotten in)

  • @LoveIAmJoy

I think acorns is a worthy service to take advantage of but I also feel like it's important to have passive income to be able to invest on a monthly basis into yourself if you're struggling from day-to-day just to pay your bills and put food on the table where's the extra coming from to be able to invest? Some will said we'll start small start with $10 or $5 I don't know. The question is, is it worth it? I would say yes because with making a small investment today starting off with $5 or $10 can eventually change to the point where you can make a $100 or $150 or even $500 dollar investments into yourself. It all starts with taking the first step to practical smart saving strategies. Have I gotten there personally? No, that's why I have a GoFundMe set up trying to raise $600 to fix a car but with baby step's I can get there & you can to.

A lot of what you are saying, to me, extremely optimistic. While true that the Stock Market is high at over 27,300, back January 2018 it was 26,616. Also 2018 the Dow fell, for the first time in a decade. Since January, 2018 there has been an increase of roughly 2% in two years (or 1% yearly). Personally, I am staying out of the Market for the now, sticking to R/E. At least I have a certain degree of control over that.

Kawhi Gold Wave Optic and Select are by far the best short term investments on the market now....these are going for around $1,000 or less - and the Lebrons are going for like $20K - WTF???. Kawhi is 6 years younger than Lebron, has a much higher winning percentage, his teammates actually like playing with , still has a full head of hair, and is way less prone to making stupid comments in the media on matters outside of basketball. I already scored as many of these as I could (the ones without any noticeable flaws). I love to give newbies in the Hobby helpful advice. The cards are super duper SSP and unnumbered (which is a good thing in this particular instance). There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of the regular Optic and Select inserts. These cards are probably like #'d to 16 or less and his TRUE CLIPPERS ROOKIE CARDS in LA Uniforms.
    You are welcome ;)

I have Acorn’s, Wealthfront, Robinhood & Fidelity. I know it’s a bit much😅 Once the market goes back up I’m getting rid of acorns. Acorn’s was better when it was free for students but they no longer have that. I do love the Round up & Found Money feature. But I feel like it encourages me to spend money I wouldn’t have otherwise which eats up into my profit. IMO, Wealthfront is a little better (than Acorn’s) overall bc they offer TLH and allows you to set recurring invests in it like Acorns. Betterment is also one worth looking into to as I hear it’s a little better than Wealth. I enjoy Robinhood bc I do enjoy picking my stocks to a degree. I’m new to Fidelity but they’re stocks available to buy that aren’t on Robinhood. Robinhood is significantly more user-friendly tho. So I find myself consistently opening the app, tracking & investing. I think it’s better to choose based on which investors suite your strategy, income & get you to actively invest. So personal preference is also something to consider. I’m by no means an expert, I’ve just tried many 😅

One thing I still don't get about this investing game is that money grows as you invest, but the whole point is to put $100 for example and wait for it to grow to $1000 for example, instead of putting $100 every month to see the $1200 grow to $1500. What would be the point of that? To spend $1200 for only $300 profit... feels like I'm just giving away my money so it looks like it's growing but it actually isn't.

M1 Finance is way better than Acorn. No $1 fee below $5k in assests, and no 0.25% management fee on top of ETF fees over $5k in assests.
Only serious issue with M1 Finance is it expects you to know what your doing.

I know how much we invest vary, but is your moderately aggressive portfolio same as mine or any other same portfolio? I mean all the stocks and it's distribution, are they same if it's a same portfolio. I am asking because my friend starting using acorn about two weeks ago on my recommendation, she is a risk taker, went with aggressive portfolio and already on a loss of about 3.5% which is about -$400. She is slightly worried, at this rate she would lose all her money in no time. What should she do? I have been with acorn for a yr now and I am having a pretty good experience and seeing a gain but I invest lot less than my friend.

Acorns sucks because it takes about a week to buy stock from when you start your deposit. If you’re trying to invest extra on days the market is low, you’ll probably get the opposite. The recurring deposits are crap too. The daily option is 7 days a week instead of just on trading days like Robinhood. Yo can’t dollar cost average when 3/7 of your stock is bought on Monday. Don’t waste your time with a profile recommendation either. Aggressive is the only one that makes $

Moderately aggressive holds up pretty good I noticed, however in that moment when it does take a dive it’ll go down by a lot more than someone with more bonds in their portfolio.
And the thing is; say for example I’m in it for 40 years and on year 35 we get a crash, that’s a problem: so the goal is, the closer I get to the end, the more my portfolio will shift to less risk
