I used 1/2 flexible hose. Nothing inside it. Just wrapped it with vinyl and screwed the metal over the "flap". Did a very similar thing at the back, but there are no metal pieces there, you use the plastic hinge covers. The convertible top is a BIG job. I have vids of that install too if you haven't seen them. I need to put together the final "part 4" of the trim out on the top. Just go step by step. Look at thesamba website. There is a write up on there with great photos.
doing an awesome job! It just wouldn't be right if any of the parts are were right the first time... Nice to see someone else that has the same luck as I always seem to lol.
The carpet looks awesome. SOOOooo much better than factory. I'll have to do a comparison. The adhesive is Dap/Weldwood high strength spray adhesive. The upholstery shop here sells it. It's for high temp applications. Beware of the super 77 in cars. It gives out at high temps common when cars really heat up.
Thanks for the info on the wind lace. I had the metal pieces and didn't know where they went. I could tell that carpet went into it. Also when you made your with the 1/2 tubing what did you put in the tubing was it a metal rod? I am working on 67 covertible. It has only been out of the paint shop for a month. Bought the car in 1989 been sitting in the in the garage for 22 years. Thanks for all you updates. What scares me the most is the convertibel top.work
Hey Greg, I’m restoring a 65 hardtop, my question if you are still around is do you have any videos of upholstery install on back seat and fold down piece? Much appreciated, BTW nice ghia !😎
Scot- I am still around even though I haven't been posting much in the way of content lately... I do have a future project car in the works tho!!! As for the rear area... The 74 just has a cargo floor and not a seat. I think they started doing that in 70 or 72 because of the seatbelt laws (I could be wrong about the reason). My 73's vin tag listed the car as a 2 seater. For the cargo floor, I wound up using matching vinyl and tweed upholstery that was leftover from the front seats to cover the face of the plywood piece. Then the carpet set had a piece that covers the flat part... That probably doesn't help you with your 65. Are you posting videos of your restoration?
@@GregsGarage ok, thanks, I am not posting any vids, im not that guy, I tried doing a speedo rebuild and I flopped, I couldn’t stop laughing at myself because I couldn’t find the correct terminology of some parts, I think rehearsal is a must for me, Using words like this thing or this do dad or gizmo! Car goes in for paint in a coupla weeks, two tone. Sea sand body, arcona white top. Currently reupholstering seats
@@scoth5135 LOL! I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I usually take 3-4 tries to get something to sound like it makes sense. Good luck with your reassembly!!!
I just got a 73 Karmann Ghia hard top, it needs carpet but I could help getting it done, by chance do you know anyone in the Denver area that can help with it?
I don't know any auto trimmers in Denver. All my contacts are in KC... There's a guy on the samba named Billie Johnson. He lives in Franktown / Elizabeth (just south of Parker). He works on a ton of VWs. If he can't help, he may know someone who can.
Greg's Garage I've been watching all your videos on the karmann ghia. I just purchased a 1974 so i can semi restore to give to my father for his birthday when he comes visit in April next year. I know i don't have much time so all the help i can get would be crucial. I would love to get your opinion and some tips and guide points if you would be kind enough to help. I posted a video on here maybe you could watch it and give me some insights. Its under: Karmann Ghia 1974 garage semi restoration. Thank you in advance!

Yeah. Spending an hour fighting little screws is a nightmare.
what did you use for the sound deadener?
scary when you was welding, this interior appears to be another phase of this BIG forever ending project, taking notes even on the 'to do list'
