Paul John and Kevin Graham, I keep coming back to you! The best centre back pairing in Scotland.
i'm too small to be a centre back!
@@KevingrahamCCC You can be anything you want.
Celtic were 5 up against Ross Co and no youth players were brought on,but went on last night ,that’s strange
@@junglelion1265 Rodgers politics, it was a message to the board to fund strength in depth -I understand it but Cummings could be given a chance in matches like you mentioned and will be scratching his head too -why he was blooded in a CL match in the balance and not in an SPL match the result not in doubt and if he concludes he was used to force signings that'll further limit hus chances he'll likely leave
@@patrickkerrigan3633 That potentially being the case - what does it really say about the relationship our manager has with the board? You should never be throwing youngsters under the bus in such an important match in order to make a direct statement to the board. Is Rodgers incapable of verbalising his needs to them in person like any other professional person would do if they had an issue doing their job properly?
It's a fair point and it does seem weird that we don't want to risk fielding the likes of Dane Murray or Daniel Cummings vs the likes of St Johnstone, Ross County..... but we've no qualms sending them on when we're playing in the CL!
I'm sure the two lads in question are just happy for any sort of game time they can get but our whole approach, as a club, to bringing young guys through does seem a bit haphazard with no real coherent strategy in place.
@@leannecampbell4551yeah it poses a question alright -I think.Rodgers is a good manager but I don't like his persona and haven't for years since before he managed Celtic the first time and I hear presenters and fans saying his comments about certain fans after the St.Mirren match were likely heat of the moment then in the next breath say everything he says is very considered -I agree that everything he says is very considered and it was another example of why I think he has a superiority complex and unable ever to honestly blame himself -I can easily imagine him using young players in that fashion even if the board are backing him and it's hard to say they're not presently -how hard did he try to keep Kyogo for last night I wonder? And all the indicators are by how he played v Young Boys that Kyogo would've given his all had he come on for the final 20mins v Villa when the result still in the balance..Rodgers has had couple of lbarely veiled digs at Kuhn too, who has been pretty poor in the last 4 CL matches and the link to the Norwegian winger interesting in that regard i think..I think we'd be even more a threat if our wingers were given more licence to try and reach the byline -if Kuhn constantly cutting inside is tactical it is down to Rodgers it's being predicted and snuffed out in Europe -less of an issue domestically although Rangers set up for it and it worked in the last derby
@@patrickkerrigan3633 I personally don’t think he brought them on to make a statement to the suits, nor was it a tactical decision - it was more an ego-stroking exercise to make him look like the man-management hero for bringing on two youngsters in a UCL ‘Battle of Britain’ clash.
Only a novice mug would make that drastic and illogical decision with the scoreline at 3-2 with 10 minutes plus IT to play - especially since the implications for a draw would have ensured we avoid Real or Bayern. Now because of that, of UCL campaign is officially over!
Did well to get back to all square and stay in the game until the end. The subs felt like a message to the board that the squad is threadbare.
We recovered brilliantly after a horrendous start last night. We competed well for most of the game and played some good football and of course scored 2 goals. Delighted for Idah he led the line well. But our lack of quailty in depth showed.
We need to bring in a striker and hopefully Tierney before window shuts. I still also think we need a powerful defensive midfielder and another right sided Centre half. When CCV is out we are very short of a quality replacement.
Bring on Real or Bayern. Hail Hail 🍀
What about the 6 goal thriller at Ochilview which saw our Ghirls go joint top of the league???
We are so much better out of possession in Europe this season than previously.
We are moving forward be realistic and enjoy this period Hail Hail 💚

Just a last wee comment boys. If we knew Kyogo was going months back, what has our new sports Doctor done to address that?
I just dont think it's complicated -could write reams here but The CL is a myth -the name for a start, and then there are a small pool of super rich clubs we call the 'elite', 'top level' teams -two-thirds of the teams are Europa League level with a small few hovering inbetween who on their day can cause an upset but cannot win it and are unlikely to make semis and they are sides like Leipzig and Atalanta who on our day as a Europa League standard club we can get a result against -Ajax, Feyenoord, Celtic, Benfica, Porto, Steaua Bucharest, Anderlecht, Red Star Belgrade, Marseilles, Nottingham Forest -will not ne winning Europe's ultimate prize ever again without a levelling out of football -European football is in crisis and no amount of tinkering the formats will disguise it ultimately -we keep talking about european 'progress' for Celtic -what is it? We can't go beyond a certain point -which id argue would be first or second knock out phase -imagine we were good enough to keep doing that but could never get further -what would be progress then. Id rather win the Europa League which i dont think unrealistic but we're unlikely to be in it amytime soon. The English media can crow all they like -the how would Celtic fair in the EPL is a non-conversation -hypothetically, the day Celtic joined that league as wealthy as it is we'd rapidly become a powerhouse in that league and then Europe because we're a global club and the revenue we'd generate would find us in the elite group of clubs -but is that what we're about when we're more than a club?
great post and sums it up.
Why reference Cundy and Talk Sport!! We know they are going to be controversial and divisive. Don't give them the attention.
Cundy & O’Hara are the Ant & Dec of football punditry - they failed at their chosen profession and are now hired mouthpieces for the hard of thinking.
@@ACelticStateOfMind very eloquently put,you silver tonged devil you!
When all is said & done our 12pts return from the 8 fixtures presented to us, is about par for the course I'd say.
10-12pts was a realistic target from those 8 games at the outset.
9pts or less would've been pretty poor
13-16pts would've been very good
17pts+ would've been exceptional
So we done ok IMHO. Although once the competition is underway, expectations will always fluctuate from game to game as the competition takes shape and some teams start to look better/worse than first expected. I think the one game where we really did leave points out there, was the Dinamo Zagreb away game. At full strength, they are a decent side but when we came to play them, they were very much understrength and in hindsight that is probably a game we should've got more out of.
Zagreb was a strange game. It had an end of season feel where both teams settled for the point. It cost Zagreb and not us luckily.
The irony is that Bayo will move for big money. He is scoring a lot of goals at Watford.
it's a strange world.
I must have watched the wrong game , I thought AJ played well
Spot on Kev was thinking the same last night we are a decent Europa League team. The big money is obviously in the Champions League but if Celtic are able to keep this progress over next couple seasons I honestly think we would be very capable of going far in the Europa League. With a bit of luck never say never but we need to believe we are good enough to win it at some stage in the near future under Brendan's management 🍀
I’ve got to challenge this opinion.
We are, by definition, at Champions League level.
We have gathered up 2 more points than I expected.
The subs - apart from Bernardo - are not the quality we need
We are a Champions League team as proven by the fact that we are in the top 24. We finished above Man City ffs! Rangers are a Europa League team - Do you know why? Because when they play in the CL they are the worst side in history, but yet they do well in the Europa League. That is the definition of a Europa League team,
We have to be a Champions league club! You want the huns winning a league!! As that's only you in that we enter that inferior tournament man! Wisen up!
No one likes their team to lose, the reasons why needs to be discussed, caveats, qualifying statements, etc, etc.
Celtic finished EIGHT places higher than their market value, topped only in this metric by Lille, Brest, and I team I forget (higher than Club Bruges, who I think is a fair target level for Celtic in the short term). The coaching staff and especially the players should get immense credit for this achievement. Not happy clapping, that's objective fact. Now whether or not the board has the gumption to press on from here - well - consider me in the concerned boat with nearly everyone else especially as news has come out that Pete and Mikey ridiculously low-balled in their first bid for Kvistgaarden (who looks a Bradley tank of a player - small but mighty).
The Manchester United LB loan makes me think Arteta and Arsenal are going to fanny about re: KT - no shock there.
Lastly, Murray made a huge mistake, quite right. But damn is he didn't look like a big hoss that has a bit of culture with the forward pass.
I lied, actually lastly, way too harsh on the subs. McCowan never had a chance to get into the game. Bernardo put himself about as he is want to do. Did miss at least one opportunity to pick out a decisive pass, but these would have been balls that, quite frankly, only Hatate (and, I do think Bernardo has this in his locker but to a much lesser extent) can realistically play.
I was impressed with the physically, shape and technical ability of Brugge. Showed what is possible.
@ Concur. I think they are a benchmark for Celtic. Consistent in Europe too. Big cavern though in their success with youth development and ours, which I’ve personally held as something that direly needs addressing.
Gotta say while we know he isnt fantastic but yang wasnt outstandingly bad last night.i thought AJ got torn apart and was poor again last night in large spells
As he has been throughout this UCL campaign. There’s a very fine reason he signed for us after the 2022 World Cup, and no ‘big’ clubs were interested - because he is bang average!
No big clubs !! Away wash the dishes dear
Scales Yang Palma Murray Taylor not good enough that's what we all knew before last night
He learnt that so called fans didn't seem to know it was a meaningless game 😂, we were already through and brendan set the team out with that in mind, because kyogo was gone, ccv was out maeda was out and forrest was injured, take all that into account with the fact that the team was already through then that was clear to people who know football that the club knew that we could treat it like a friendly and that's how it panned out. Hence why he stuck on a couple of the young boys too..how can't a lot of people see that? 😂😂😂😂😂
Im not good with names but the guest today is bang on about Engles at the third goal. And saying it wasnee great isn't really strong enough a agreement. He played well in the first half. He must of been aware of the danger loosing that battle would cost and it looked like he wasn't? You would thonk he was in a traning match and the whistle had gone so no point al just give up. It wasn't like he was on a bookmg and needed to be cautious or anything either?
He has absolutely zero physicality, yet certain folk adamantly suggested his best position is a 6/Deep-lying midfield pivot! 😅🤦🏻♀️ The Bhoy couldn’t tackle a fish supper, which is why his current game is so inconsistent trying to fulfil the right-sided box-to-box role. That’s exclusively down to our clueless manager and not the ability of the player.
@@leannecampbell4551 fair enough? Did he play feather forward for his old club aye?? I just agree with the guest ,when i watched that last night i just thought it was a waste, if we lost our shape etc etc okay, but if he retains possession from a position situation that 80% maybe 90 he should then we don't concede. And obviously as soon as we do it's a game changer. I actually popped out the house at 2-0 didn't pause it and when i came home it was 2-2 but annoyed with myself about that. Am not crucifying Engles or saying i don't think he has ability or a bright future,i just think it was weak and only he knows how he managed to F that up?
You seem to be attracted to my comments Leigh Anne 😊 are you single? Are you a good cook ? I enjoy spicy cuisine😮can you cook with ghee 😅@@leannecampbell4551
Playing out we’re too static and easy to man mark. Even Scottish teams have learned this. Villa powers forward with 4 or 5 players moving.
over the last few months we have lacked energy to play out at times and in certain games when we fail to match the work rate of the opponent. that happens during seasons and wasn't the case in the first three months of the season. we need more physicality and energy in the squad.
Idah, hopefully that will do his confidence the world of good. But he is starting to remind me of Samaras can't get himself in to the right mindset unless it's a big occasion. Sammy has a good start to his Celtic career then inconsistent MR inconsistent....
he hasn't the hair though.
Your saying trusty was absolutely brilliant last night! Yous conceded 4 goals going on 8,,,absolutely brilliant!
We do not have a quality midfield to deal with the standard in UCL.
No pace, strength or agility. Opposition midfield walk through them at will.
Good work rate by some but sadly, it is our achilles heal.
when I'm asked what area we can improve, I always say everywhere because nights like last night show it's true.
UEFA WILL ban the fans … they gave maeda a double ban 3 hours before our kickoff to intimidate the team… Celtic park should just do a tv screening of the game for season ticket holders and celebrate our achievements together as one 🍀
Kevin states that Celtic are no more than a ' decent Europa League team'. This ignores the evidence that we've just qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions' League with a game in hand, finishing 21st out of the 24 qualifiers. Of the 8 games we played we were beaten twice; by Villa (8th) and Dortmund (10th) and managed an away draw against Atalanta (9th) who were all over us. Of course we need to improve the squad to compete better at this level but this year has been about setting a benchmark. I agree with you Kev, we are where we deserve to be; that is in the Champions' League.
Yes but we had a pretty decent draw to be fair
Poetic licence, his 80/20 analysis of a 60/40 ball between Engels & McGinn case in point.
Bit harsh as the Premier league in England is littered with combatants John McGinns strength & arse have out muscled 😁
@@forevereverceltic9160 I've watched a fair bit of Scotland, don't care for the English domestic game, and that was the first time I ever really appreciated the majesty of McGinn's posterior. He's built like he has the same workout split as an Instagram model - bless him. But that was an incredible veteran move that he's not getting credit for. He used Engels momentum against him. Pushed Engels into the same line he was running in, like a mid-late career Michael Jordan - it made my Yank sports heart happy and then immediately sad again as it led to a goal😢. Hopefully a learning experience for the young man and motivation for Celtic sports scientists and strength coaches that they need to implement at least twice-a-week, focused, Ass Day.
@@forevereverceltic9160 granted. still think engels was as weak as my bladder in a very favourable situation.
ok, maybe what I should say is that we are no better than Brugge or Zagreb who are decent sides, and that is no bad thing, but will struggle 90% of the time when faced with a top side.
I would’ve taken a 4 - 2 defeat just for Idah to score a couple.
May have been different outcome if ccv and Maeda playing crazy to let kyogo go before last nights game. O'Hara and Cundy a couple of Wanks O'Hara was ragin that Spurs could only draw at Ibrox
No boot polish patter from you this round?? 😅
If uefa ban our fans, I’m calling it now, the main conversation will be focused on blaming uefa. With a few moments given to the idea that maybe our fans shouldn’t do it. And the idea we might better hold ourselves to something as a fan base.
Bet ye any money.
Like it or not…Their comp. Their rules. We abide by them or take the punishment without kicking off like wee weans.
With KT coming back I think AJ just lost the captaincy post-McGregor. Not that it matters too much. Or that anything was nailed on anyway. But thinking about it, KT might be the last strand of Celtic identity we get to see at the club.
3-2 was an acceptable result, but puting on the young nervous kid by Rodgers who sold the fourth goal, made it look embarrassing. Why not stick Anthony Ralston in that spot and save face.
There wis some *political* songs before kick off-ye just cannae get away wi that anymore. I'm not defending Eufa here because they're corrupt, all am sayin' is we just cannae sing that type of song cos Eufa'll be all over it like a rash! Ok, I get it 'The battle of Britain n all that but c'mon, support the team don't hing out yer dirty washin, we're bigger and better than that. Hail Hail!
The political songs sung by the ‘Villains that glorified an elite noncer like Jimmy Sav’s former best mate, were worse than anything our supporters sang!
Villa had only one fit centre back. Missing Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres, Ross Barkley and Amadu Onana. It would have been a bigger scoreline if they had been available.
Kev talks utter mince. No shame in losing out in a 50/50 to McGinn and AJ was one of our better players, he defended brilliantly at times!
It wasn''t a 50/50. And would you being saying that if it was a Rangers player who muscled him too easily off the ball? I think Engels is getting an easy ride beacuse of who it was,
Kevin your the most negative person ive ever heard regarding celticswitching off its nauseating
thank you. don't know what else I can say, thought saying we done brilliant in europe this season and the reason why is positive but obv not.
Good dose of reality for Rodgers from Rogers. There's a massive gulf in class could have been 7 or 8 easy😂
Kevin Graham’s pretty depressing.
Hopefully the next time he’s on there’ll be a couple of contributors with more positivity to counter him.
don't how much more positive I can be by saying we've had a great season in Europe, which I said, despite our stark realities.
Barring the Leipzig win and an excellent draw in Bergamo, what’s been so overly positive about this UCL campaign?
Are we seriously counting beating the worst team in the competition with an 86th minute OG? and the second worst team that also finished on zero points from 8 games?
Our failure to put away both Dinamo and Brugge (which were must win games), and our inability to stop conceding school-boy goals, has resulted in us qualifying with absolutely zero chance of progress. So, where does the grandiose optimism come from??
@ i certainly don’t have grandiose optimism, just a growing unease about the growing sense of entitlement in our fan base. We qualified from the group. Smell the coffee.
Over and above completely weakening his squad by forcing your best player/striker to want to leave mid-season as a direct result of an inept playing system that was scuppering said player's game, disgracefully treated young Valle the way he did and thinking dud Taylor is a better LB than a future Barca star, no replacements for the said departing players, and his shambolic in-game management last night with the game poised at 2-2 - the manager's post match interview(s) tells you everthing you need to know about the club's severe lack of ambition.
Rodgers and the suits clearly set an absolute max benchmark of qualification, but in no way, shape or form were they even remotely interested in the potential to going further - regardless of who we drew next! How any manager can turn round and claim they are "proud" and he thought we were excellent for large spells, after a hammering from a mid-table EPL club with a makeshift backline with one recognised centre-back on the night, is nothing short of more shameful gaslighting from him! An elite manager should be very dissapointed, not bloody happy and beeming with pride after another pasting that let's be real here - should have been 8 going on 9, easily! This persistent pish to talk-up and celebrate glorious failures and mediocrity time and time again, is the reason we will never evolve beyond the bare minimum achievement in Europe.
As for Idah - it was far from a 'superb' performance, as many are suggesting, but it was a vasty improved performance and he finally looked like the striker we paid massively over the odds for. Idah's main issue has never really been his finishing, but his overall static movement is the problem. Last night though, he was not only following their defensive line very well, but he was actively monitoring it and positioning himself super close to their CB's with the aim of creating space/exploiting gaps to receive passes and run in behind to get into scoring positions - which he of course done to great effect on two occasions. His runs were over 3 lanes as well, and many of which were clever darting and decoys - as opposed to his normal static central movement. Granted, he really lifted his game last night with the sole onus on him with Kyogo now away and you could see he had a big point to prove going back down South, but he NEEDS to follows it up again on Sunday and beyond - no more excuses now!
Its not an essay Leanne. Relax!
