Physics master's graduate here: The maths for the Higgs Boson existed for years before it was actually discovered. We knew what the mass was supposed to be and looked for a particle that matched. My guess is that they just used the papers that had already been written on it to make it accurate in the show. I've seen some other comments saying overwise but this was my first thought!

The equation shown with numbers to the power of 12 isn’t actually true, it’s meant to be a disproof of Fermat’s last theorem, but the numbers used just happen to be very close to being correct. Basically most of the writers have PhDs in physics, so they sort of estimated an equation that later turned out to be true. It would make a cool follow up to this video to find out about hidden maths in Simpsons (and the spinoff Futurama)

Hey Sidemen, if you want to find out more about maths and physics in the Simpsons, there's a mathematician called Simon Singh, and he's done TV shows and written books strictly about maths in the Simpsons. Basically most of the writers have PhDs in physics, so they sort of estimated an equation that later turned out to be true. It would make a cool follow up to this video to find out about hidden maths in Simpsons (and the spinoff Futurama)
When it come to the discovery of the Higgs boson, it was based on work done in the early 60’s which predicted the Higgs Boson would be a thing. The LHC at CERN was built to confirm its existence by determining its mass.

The Higgs boson was predicted by Peter higgs if you search it up, the boson gives particles mass by interacting with the Higgs field, the equations in the episode was probably made by Higgs. Super fun that the simpsons actually include stuff like this though :)

This is the truth about the "God particle", the 2nd Simpsons prediction. The particle was brought up by Peter Higgs in the 1960s, but he and another guy got awarded the Nobel Prize on 10 December 2013. The Simpsons episode was released on September 20, 1998 which is before Peter Higgs got awarded, but not before he founded the particle.
