I think something that makes this amazing for me is that I find self-portraits to be an exercise in acceptance. So many times, people will exaggerate a detail or downplay a feature they might consciously or unconsciously dislike or outright hate of themselves. To be able to make a self-portrait and mean it, to me, is to come to terms and accept parts of you and let everyone see them.
I recently had to do my first self portrait in art class - it was pointillism and we were just copying a portion of our faces, but it was still an interesting experience. Having to emphasize certain shadows and creases, having to add in acne, having to focus on and replicate the very things I avoid. It was an eye opening experience. I hope to delve deeper into recreations of myself and try to see myself through a different lense

I think something that makes this amazing for me is that I find self-portraits to be an exercise in acceptance. That is very true. Whenever I draw myself most of the time it's in a simple way to avoid drawing such features
